Playboi Carti Pays Homage To Lil Wayne In 2025 BET Awards Performance
Carti opened his performance with 'Like Weezy' and dressed for the occasion with a baggy hooded sweatshirt, sagging jeans, a fitted hat, and shades, much like Wayne would sport in 2006. He was flanked by two luxury vehicles and his hypemen. After 'Like Weezy' finished, he transitioned to his popular cut 'Rather Lie' featuring The Weeknd. A gospel chorus replaced Abel on the hook, making the performance feel more spiritual in that live setting.
Though short, the performance put a bow on what has been a huge year for the enigmatic artist. The two records he delivered came from his March 2025 album MUSIC, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and sold 298,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. The album featured Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Future, Young Thug, Jhene Aiko, Skepta, and more. Check out his 2025 BET Awards performance below.
Playboi Carti's appearance at the 2025 BET Awards comes amid his opening slot on the After Hours Til Dawn tour with The Weeknd. They have hit cities such as Glendale, Detroit, Chicago, and East Rutherford so far and have Denver, Seattle, Toronto, Atlanta, and Houston left on their road trip, which continues up to September.
Carti also had three nominations on the evening: two in the Video Of The Year category for The Weeknd's 'Timeless' and 'Type Sh*t' with Future, Metro Boomin, and Travis Scott, plus a Best Collaboration nomination for 'Timeless.' His performance comes months after he joined Weeknd for his return performance at the Grammys, where they delivered the 2024 hit. Needless to say, this dynamic duo is on fire both individually and together in 2025.

Hurricane Katrina documentary, ‘A Reason To Stay' screening at The Broad Theater
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — With the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, there will be a special screening of a documentary shot during and immediately after Hurricane Katrina. WGNO's Kenny Lopez spoke with the married couple who captured all the footage for the documentary while riding out the storm. 'It's a time marker, everyone refers to it as before Katrina or after Katrina,' Harry Peter Becnel said. This is the story of during Katrina. 'There are thousands of stories and this is ours,' Becnel said. Harry Peter Becnel III co-directed the documentary with Janene Knox. Becnel's wife, Angela took the still photos used in the film. The documentary, 'A Reason To Stay,' tells the story of newlyweds Peter and Angela Becnel who just bought a house on Toulouse and North Rendon in Mid-City, just four days before Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina Victim Haunting New Orleans Burger Joint? 'I felt like we had to stay and protect our house in a sense,' Peter Becnel said. 'We really had no idea it would be this bad,' Angela Becnel said. 'I felt very vulnerable because we didn't have any money to leave honestly,' Peter Becnel said. Peter captured all the distress. 'I did three hours of straight footage in and after the storm on a mini DV camera,' he said. While Angela took the still photos. Filmmaker Edward Buckles Jr. talks about his new HBO documentary, 'Katrina Babies' 'I was capturing nothing but sadness, so at some point I had to put the camera down,' Angela Becnel said. For them life, which felt like a movie, became a movie. 'We were stuck for three days in flood waters. We were there from Sunday to Wednesday and then on Wednesday we were choppered out. We were lucky enough to have a cousin flying the plane so they brought us straight to Baton Rouge,' Peter Becnel said. Twenty years later this couple is remembering the connection they felt by helping their neighbors and their continued love for New Orleans. Man remembers rescuing over 400 people during Hurricane Katrina 'You can get through hard times if you believe and trust,' Angela said. 'I think people just want to feel it. Feel what it was about and not try to dissect it. I'm just going to tell my story,' Peter said. The special screening of 'A Reason To Stay,' will take place at The Broad Theater Aug. 29, the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina at 7:00 p.m. Following the screening there will be a concert at The Broadside with the band, R. Scully & Friends who provided the award-winning soundtrack for the film. For ticket information. Cook review: Horror masterpiece ‘Weapons' is one of the best films of 2025
The stunning, smart 'Weapons' has influences from some of the best films – horror and otherwise – ever made. But it's never derivative. It stands alone as one of those movies I'll recommend to horror fans and general cinephiles as well. Writer-director Zach Cregger also wrought 'Barbarian,' which became a favorite of horror fans in 2022. Here he gives us all-too-familiar vibes from real-life horror situations such as school shootings and child abductions/abuse. The movie is told in chapters that bear various characters' names. Much like Akira Kurosawa's 'Rashomon,' each segment is told from the perspective of that particular person. Here's the setup, and to go deeper than the general premise would be to provide spoilers, so I'm not going to do it. Julia Garner plays Justine, an elementary-school teacher in a small town where 17 children disappear. Those students ,it turns out, were all in her class. The 18th student, Alex (a wonderful Cary Christopher, 'Days of Our Lives') tells police he doesn't know what happened to the other kids, who disappeared in the middle of the night. Similarly, Justine says she has no idea why the children took or where they went. But the parents aren't so sure, and Justine soon becomes a pariah, desperate for someone to talk to as she constantly looks over her shoulder. Benedict Wong plays Justine's sympathetic, concerned boss who confronts Justine about a couple of incidents in her past. Josh Brolin is Archer, the father of one of the missing students, who is so frustrated he considers being his own detective after multiple conversations with the police chief.. There's an homage to 'The Shining' in one scene, and possibly nods to other films that I missed because I was so caught up in the intrigue. This is gory stuff, with a finale that may seem outlandish but, to me, made a perfect ending to this not-for-the-nervous tale. 4 stars Running time: Two hours and 9 minutes.
