'I don't understand' – ESPN pundit at a loss with one piece of Chelsea's summer business
'I don't understand' – ESPN pundit at a loss with one piece of Chelsea's summer business Former Premier League midfielder Don Hutchinson has said he doesn't understand why Arsenal have signed Noni Madueke. Madueke is set to join the Gunners in a deal worth £52m, and it's believed he will sign a five year contract with Mikel Arteta's side. Advertisement The 23-year-old won't be part of the Chelsea squad for Sunday's Club World Cup final, and has been given permission to fly to the UK to complete his medical. Hutchinson doesn't understand Arsenal signing Madueke Madueke is set to provide much needed back-up for Bukayo Saka on the right wing, whilst he will also be an option on the left. The England international featured regularly for Chelsea last season and scored seven goals and registered four assists in 32 Premier League appearances. Jason Cundy has admitted he'd be disappointed if Madueke left, and Hutchinson has now stated he doesn't understand the transfer. Madueke is set to swap Chelsea for Arsenal. (Photo by) Advertisement 'I don't understand this transfer,' he said as cited on 'From an Arsenal point of view, he plays where Bukayo Saka does, so it'll be tough for him to get games. The competition, of course, makes sense, especially if Saka is injured, but they have Ethan Nwaneri. 'His contract is running down now, and I'd have been tempted to use money earmarked for Madueke to get a deal done for Nwaneri instead.' Madueke is thought to have wanted a new challenge in a bid to get more regular football given the influx of attacking signings this summer. The winger finishes his Chelsea career with 20 goals and nine assists in 92 appearances after joining in January 2023. Man United's Tom Heaton opens up on surprise renewal at club
Manchester United have recently signed up veteran keeper Tom Heaton to a new one-year deal. The 39 year old did not play in any game last season with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir covering goal in every match. Advertisement Long United history Heaton joined the academy as a youngster but left the club in 2010 for Cardiff City after failing to make a senior appearance. He would enjoy successful spells with Burnley and Aston Villa in the Premier League before rejoining United in 2021. The keeper has only played three matches for the club and he has not stood between the posts in a competitive match since the 2022/2023 season. For that reason, he rather surprisingly signed a new deal with the club this summer to extend his stay one more year. Heaton's delight at new deal Speaking to the club's official website about his new deal, Heaton claimed 'it's obviously a privilege for anyone who gets the opportunity to extend their stay at a club like this.' Advertisement The keeper did admit that it has been hard not to play competitive football over recent years but that there is much more that has gone into his decision to renew at the club. He elaborated, 'there's a lot of factors that go into the decision. I'll be the first to say I've not played an awful lot of football over the last few weeks. I've still got that drive and desire to play.' The former Burnley keeper also claimed that his support of the club has also heavily influenced his desire to stay in spite of the lack of playing time. Heaton also spoke on the fact that despite the failings of last season, 'the club demands success' and that there is a real 'foundation' to achieve this with the current squad. Advertisement Leadership role The United man also spoke on his responsibility to help guide the younger players in the squad due to his vast experience of the club. It was reported that United had originally planned to offer Heaton a coaching role and that may be something in the works for the future. Opening up on his role in the squad he claimed, 'the values of this football club are ingrained inside me and I want to make sure that new players who come into the building have an understanding of what the club means to the fans, what the traditions are, what the values are, as well as accepting that it also requires a period to evolve.' Advertisement The 39 year old finally waxed lyrical on captain Bruno Fernandes by asserting, 'Bruno and I have a brilliant relationship, so I try and help him in any way I possibly can. I think he does a magnificent job.' Follow us on Bluesky: @

Chelsea vs PSG: Head-to-head record ahead of FIFA Club World Cup final
Football fans are in for a treat as Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) lock horns in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final this Sunday, July 13, at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey. It's a clash of titans, with Chelsea hunting their second global crown and PSG dreaming of their first. Let's break down their past battles to get a sense of what's coming. A Fierce European Rivalry These two clubs have crossed paths eight times, all in the UEFA Champions League, with their last meeting back in 2016. It's been a tight contest every time, full of drama and narrow margins. Here's how they stack up: Matches Played : 8 : 8 Chelsea Wins : 2 : 2 PSG Wins : 3 : 3 Draws : 3 : 3 Chelsea Goals : 11 : 11 PSG Goals: 10 Their rivalry kicked off in 2004 during the Champions League group stage. Chelsea ran riot in Paris, winning 3-0 with John Terry nodding one in and Didier Drogba bagging a brace. The return leg at Stamford Bridge? A gritty 0-0 draw. Fast forward to 2014, the quarter-finals saw PSG take a 3-1 lead at home, only for Chelsea to flip the script with a 2-0 win in London, sneaking through on away goals thanks to Demba Ba's late heroics. Things tilted PSG's way in 2015 and 2016. In '15, a 1-1 draw in Paris and a wild 2-2 at Stamford Bridge sent PSG through on away goals, with David Luiz and Thiago Silva delivering clutch headers. The next year, PSG swept the last-16 tie, winning 2-1 in both legs, with Zlatan Ibrahimović stealing the show. It's clear: when these two meet, it's anyone's game. Recent Form and Key Players Chelsea, managed by Enzo Maresca, have been rock-solid in this tournament. They eased past Fluminense 2-0 in the semi-finals, with João Pedro stepping up as the surprise star, scoring twice. The Blues have been lethal on the break, netting six goals from quick counters, and their defense hasn't let in a single first-half goal all tournament. PSG, under Luis Enrique, have been a juggernaut, racking up 10 first-half goals, including a 4-0 demolition of Real Madrid in the semis. Ousmane Dembélé, fresh off an injury, has been electric, pulling the strings in attack. But PSG face a defensive headache with Willian Pacho and Lucas Hernandez suspended, which could give Chelsea an edge. Chelsea get a boost with Liam Delap and Levi Colwill back from bans, though Moisés Caicedo's ankle issue is worth watching—he's likely to play, though. Expect Pedro Neto's speed and Cole Palmer's flair to test PSG's high-pressing style. Ahmedabad Plane Crash
