During his visit to Jalgaon on Saturday, Raut said, "If Prime Minister Narendra Modi stands against corrupt practices, he should immediately call for the resignation of Eknath Shinde over the issue."
The Supreme Court passed strictures on the tender related to the Thane Ghodbunder Bhayandar twin tunnel. Raut said, "There was a direct appreciation of Rs 3,000crore in the Rs 14,000crore contract for the twin tunnel.
L&T challenged the tender in the Supreme Court, which passed strictures."
Raut expressed concern about chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's inaction towards state corruption. "After the Supreme Court's strictures, all that Fadnavis said was that he would not tolerate corruption in the bureaucracy. How did Fadnavis fail to see the corruption in this case and fail to take any action against it?" he asked.
Addressing NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar's potential alignment with BJP, Raut assured that Pawar's supporters were certain he would not join communal forces.
"Pawar has been the torchbearer of Shahu, Phule, and Ambedkar ideologies, and all those who are with Sharad Pawar are confident that he will never join hands with such forces," said Raut.
Raut criticised the three ministers from Jalgaon regarding a tribal woman's roadside delivery. "The world knows how the three parties won the elections by manipulating EVMs, electoral rolls, and using administrative force. The govt benches still are unable to believe they won elections.

They are not grounded and, hence, they fail to understand the needs of the people. We fail to understand why a tribal woman was forced to deliver a baby on the roadside due to a lack of medical facilities despite three cabinet ministers coming from the district," he said.
Core committee to decide candidates
During a meeting with party functionaries in Jalgaon, Raut announced the formation of a six-member core committee. This committee would analyse the Jalgaon Municipal Corporation situation and compile a list of potential candidates for the upcoming corporation elections.

Don't indulge in CSR fraud: DK Shivakumar to corporate entities

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar on Saturday warned corporate entities operating in the state not to indulge in committing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fraud. He made the statement during a review meeting on Saturday at Vidhana Soudha, held to assess state-wide progress with Deputy Commissioners and CEOs. Deputy CM Shivakumar pointed out that many corporate entities based in Karnataka are issuing CSR cheques to private service organisations (NGOs) in other states, and are allegedly taking back around 50 per cent of the amount in cash. This development has come to the notice of the government, he called this a fraudulent practice and stated that such misuse of Karnataka's share of CSR funds is unacceptable. 'It is your responsibility to ensure these funds are used for the development of our schools,' he told the officials.'We don't need CSR funds in cash. Instead, let the companies build one public school per three Gram Panchayats. If land is required, the government will provide it. You identify the land, we will provide the school design. Let the companies construct the buildings and provide infrastructure. Their name can be displayed on the school building alongside the government's,' he proposed. The state receives around Rs 8,000 crore annually through CSR funds. A year ago, directions were issued to utilise these funds for constructing CSR model schools. However, the implementation has been unsatisfactory, Shivakumar noted. He expressed strong displeasure over the slow progress in the construction of CSR-funded public schools in Karnataka, modelled after the Karnataka Public Schools added, 'In my constituency, we are constructing 13 CSR public schools, each costing Rs 9 to Rs 12 crore. But work is progressing only in a few locations, and most places show a complete lack of interest.'

SC quashes trial court order in ED's Rathi Steel case over BNSS lapse

The Supreme Court has set aside the cognisance of a prosecution complaint (equivalent to a chargesheet) taken by a lower court in a money laundering trial involving M/s Rathi Steel and its top executive, who were booked by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a coal allocation case . A division bench comprising Justices AS Oka (who retired last month) and Ujjal Bhuyan set aside the cognisance order dated November 20, 2024, solely on the ground of "non-compliance" with new provisions under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). These provisions require trial courts to issue a show-cause notice to an accused before summoning them to face trial. Clarifying that it had not expressed any opinion on the merits of the ED's complaint, the bench directed executive Kushal Kumar Agarwal to appear before the trial court on July 14, "so that he can be given an opportunity of being heard in terms of the proviso to sub-section (1) of Section 223 of the BNSS." The order also stated, "We make it clear that no further notice shall be issued by the Special (trial) Court to the appellant (Agarwal)." Section 223 of the BNSS applies specifically to "complaints" and not to cases investigated by the police or the CBI. Advocate Vijay Aggarwal, representing the petitioners, argued that under Section 223, accused persons are entitled to be heard before being summoned by the trial court. He emphasized that this section stipulates that "no cognisance of an offence shall be taken by the magistrate without giving the accused an opportunity of being heard." In response, ED's counsel argued that under the new BNSS provision, the hearing granted to the accused is limited to determining whether a case is made out to proceed based solely on the complaint and its accompanying documents. The ED further contended that cognisance is taken of the offence-not the offender. Thus, once cognisance is taken, it need not be taken again when supplementary or further complaints are filed. "Therefore, at that stage, there will be no occasion to give the accused the opportunity to be heard," the ED's counsel argued. Addressing these arguments, the Supreme Court stated in its order that the ED's submissions "need not be considered, as the same do not arise in this appeal at this stage." However, it added, "We make it clear that the said contentions are expressly kept open and can be raised before the Special Court."
