Rolls-Royce Spectre Black Badge: Check 5 highlights of the luxury electric coupe
Rolls-Royce has unveiled the Spectre Black Badge in India, priced from ₹ 9.50 crore (ex-showroom), making it one of the most expensive electric vehicles currently available in the country. This limited-run model builds on the all-electric Spectre and brings a sharper, darker, and more powerful identity to the British marque's EV journey. Here are the five key highlights that set this electric grand tourer apart:
1 Powertrain and performance
The Spectre Black Badge holds the distinction of being the most powerful production Rolls-Royce to date. It houses two electric motors, one on each axle, producing a total of 650 bhp and a staggering 1,075 Nm of peak torque. This is a substantial jump from the 585 bhp and 900 Nm available on the standard Spectre.
This surge in performance allows the coupe to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 4.1 seconds, remarkable considering the car's size, luxury equipment, and sheer curb weight. Performance can be further sharpened by engaging the 'Infinity mode', which unlocks the full potential of the powertrain, while the 'Spirited Mode' (Rolls-Royce's version of launch control) adds a more engaging dynamic for spirited driving.
4 Exterior
True to its name, the Spectre Black Badge brings a visually darker, more sinister aesthetic to Rolls-Royce's electric coupe. It features a black chrome finish on prominent elements including the Pantheon grille, Spirit of Ecstasy, door handles, window surrounds, and bumpers. The car also gets exclusive 23-inch five-spoke forged aluminium wheels and debuts a bold new Vapour Violet paint finish.
Buyers are not limited to a specific look, Rolls-Royce offers an extraordinary palette of 44,000 exterior colours to choose from. Furthermore, the grille backplate itself can be custom-coloured, allowing owners to craft a truly one-of-a-kind machine that reflects their personality.
5 Interior
Inside, the cabin remains faithful to Rolls-Royce's signature opulence but adds exclusive Black Badge-specific flourishes. The passenger-side dashboard features a new Infinity symbol, signifying the Black Badge lineage, and is paired with an 'Illuminated Fascia' consisting of 5,500 fibre-optic stars arranged against a Piano Black background to simulate a starry night.
The digital instrument console offers five distinctive colour themes, Vivid Grellow, Neon Nights, Cyan Fire, Ultraviolet, and Synth Wave, allowing owners to set the tone for their drive. The car also runs on the brand's advanced 'Spirit' operating system for seamless control over all infotainment and connectivity functions. The rear cabin remains a sanctuary, with individual seats separated by a waterfall-style central console finished with the Black Badge insignia, blending function with impeccable design.

TVS Motor explores alternative sourcing to tide over rare-earth magnet crisis
TVS Motor Company is actively exploring alternative sourcing options to mitigate short and long-term disruptions caused by the rare-earth magnet (REM) crisis. The company's top management said during the Q1 FY26 post earnings call that it was able to sustain daily production of its electric vehicles despite supply chain constraints triggered by China's export restrictions on REMs. Director and CEO of TVS Motor, K N Radhakrishnan , said the company was evaluating options beyond China to secure a stable supply of rare earth magnets. 'We are actively working on heavy rare earth element-based solutions and exploring sourcing from alternative countries to reduce dependency,' he said. TVS Motor is also relying on existing inventory to tide over the crisis. 'Some developments are in progress. I may not be able to give an exact timeline, but we are looking at other countries apart from China for sourcing,' Radhakrishnan added. The company recently announced plans to launch electric motorcycles and bicycles this year. While the projects remain on track, it is yet to finalise a launch timeline given the raw material supply scenario. The rare earth shortage has already begun to impact other players like Bajaj Auto which has cautioned a grim August due to inventory depletion. 'Our component inventory saw us through until June but we are down by half in terms of production this month and am afraid we are looking at a zero month in August,' Bajaj Auto MD, Rajiv Bajaj, told The Economic Times. For the two-wheeler industry, which has been leading the EV adoption wave, a prolonged shortage could derail production momentum and slow industry growth. Carmakers like Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, and Mahindra & Mahindra have reported no immediate disruptions due to the REM crunch. Norton's India plans TVS Motor plans to bring the iconic Norton brand with plans to launch multiple motorcycles in FY26, the first set of offerings since it acquired the British brand in 2020. 'India is a key market for Norton,' Radhakrishnan said, adding that the company would also launch the brand in the UK and other key European markets. In India, TVS will adopt a premium distribution strategy and invest significantly in brand marketing. Of the INR 2,000 crore investments earmarked for this fiscal, a large part will go towards EV development, Norton's relaunch, digital initiatives, and global expansion. Export momentum, domestic outlook TVS reported its highest-ever quarterly exports at 3.52 lakh units, led by a strong rebound in Africa. The company remains optimistic about recovery in other key markets such as Sri Lanka and Nepal, although challenges persist in Bangladesh. On the domestic front, it expects a positive demand trend, supported by a favourable monsoon and a likely recovery in rural markets. Additionally, improved retail financing is anticipated on the back of a 100-basis point reduction in bank lending rates over the last six months.

Banks brace for key UK Supreme Court ruling on car finance commissions
LONDON, - The UK's Supreme Court will announce a long-awaited ruling on car finance commissions on Friday that could influence whether major banks face a multibillion-pound compensation bill. British lender Close Brothers and South Africa's FirstRand want to overturn a landmark Court of Appeal judgment which said brokers must have fully informed consent from customers in order to receive a commission from lenders. The ruling in three linked cases sent shockwaves through the 40 billion-pound a year motor finance industry and has weighed heavily on the stocks of the most exposed players, such as Close Brothers and Lloyds. Lloyds has set aside 1.15 billion pounds for potential payouts, while Banco Santander's UK arm has set aside 290 million pounds and Barclays 95 million pounds. The Financial Conduct Authority, which regulates the sector, is mulling a redress scheme that analysts have warned could end up costing the banking industry tens of billions of pounds. The FCA has said it will confirm whether it will implement a redress scheme within six weeks of the Supreme Court's ruling. The Court of Appeal said in October 2024 that lenders are liable to consumers when the commission is "secret", and can be liable when disclosure of the commission is insufficient to obtain informed consent. Lawyers for the FCA argued at April's Supreme Court appeal that the Court of Appeal went "too far", boosting lenders' hopes that any hit they face may be pared back. The potential wider impact of the case was highlighted by media reports that British finance minister Rachel Reeves might legislate to prevent lenders from taking a financial hit, which in turn could hurt her attempts to boost economic growth. The Treasury did not respond to a request for comment. The Supreme Court will give its ruling after 1535 GMT on Friday, once financial markets have closed in London. The court said: "No inference should be drawn from the timing of the hand-down as to the outcome of the appeals."
