‘Leave India' notice to Pakistani woman in Berhampur
Sixty-year-old Rahima Araa, however, has not left yet. Her family says she has no family in Pakistan.
Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, Berhampur SP Dr Saravana Vivek M said that Rahima is originally from Rawalpindi. She has been staying in Berhampur since 1980 after she got married to Sayad Riyazudin of Berhampur. The couple have three daughters.
Her husband Sayad died a few years ago. Two of her daughters are married and live in Jamshedpur and Berhampur respectively. The younger daughter Ursaa Begam is unmarried and stays with her mother.
Rahima had gone to her daughter's house in Jamshedpur when officials visited her house to serve the notice. Later on April 28, notice was served to her online through WhatsApp and subsequently Jamshedpur police was also intimated of the same.
Sayad Nisar, the younger brother of Riyazudin said, 'Sayad has already passed and Rahima has no family member in Pakistan. Under such circumstances, if she goes there, she will be killed.' Her younger daughter also appealed the government to re-consider the notice to her mother.
Meanwhile, the visa and passport of Rahima is under verification.

Espionage case: Jyoti Malhotra's custody extended by 7 days
A Hisar court on Monday extended by seven days the judicial custody of YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who is under investigation for alleged espionage for Pakistan. Her advocate Kumar Mukesh said she was produced before the court via videoconferencing. Her appearance on August 25 would be in-person when she will be provided with a 2,500-page chargesheet that was submitted by the special investigation team (SIT) of the Hisar police on August 14, he said. YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra 'Thereafter, we will review the chargesheet to ascertain if it contains any evidence,' he added. Travel blogger Jyoti, 33, a resident of Hisar, was arrested on May 16 for allegedly sharing sensitive information with Pakistani operatives. According to police officials, she had been allegedly sharing sensitive information to Pakistani operatives and she was in regular touch with them. 'Initially, she created digital content. Later, during her visit to Pakistan, she came in contact with Pakistani handlers. The enemy intelligence operatives developed her like an asset. Jyoti had links with ISI operatives Nasir Dhillon, Hasan Ali, Shakir and Ehsan-ur-Rahim Danish Ali, an officer at the Pakistani high commission in Delhi,' said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity. As per the chargesheet, Jyoti had visited various places, including Pahalgam in J&K, three months before the terror attack. She travelled to Pakistan thrice, once to China and other countries like Bangladesh and Indonesia. Earlier, Hisar superintendent of police (SP) Shashank Kumar Sawan had said that Jyoti did not have direct access to any information related to the military or defence operations that she could have shared, but she was in touch with Pakistan's officials. 'They were developing her as an asset. She was in touch with other YouTube influencers. They were also in touch with PIOs (public information officers). She used to go to Pakistan, like on sponsored trips. She was in Pakistan before the Pahalgam attack. An investigation is on to establish linkages, if there are any. We are also investigating as we have leads that other people were also involved with her,' the SP had said. The SP said that the YouTuber had visited the Pakistani embassy and uploaded a video in March last year. 'Pakistan is not a normal country for us. Attending several events with them and remaining in touch with Danish and others during the conflict period endangers the unity and sovereignty of the country,' the SP said.

Pakistani university lecturer arrested for planning foiled Balochistan attack, officials say
Security forces in southwestern Pakistan arrested a university lecturer accused of planning a foiled suicide attack that would have targeted last week's Independence Day celebrations in insurgency-hit Balochistan province, officials said Monday (August 18, 2025). The suspect, Usman Qazi, is claimed to have links with the outlawed Majeed Brigade, the suicide squad of the Balochistan Liberation Army, according to the province's Chief Minister, Sarfraz Bugti. During a press conference in the city of Quetta, Mr. Bugti showed video footage with Qazi admitting to planning the thwarted attack as well as aiding militants in recent years. It was unclear whether Qazi made those remarks under duress. Mr. Bugti did not clarify when the arrest was made, and only said the man was still being questioned. The arrest comes a week after the US State Department designated BLA and the Majeed Brigade a foreign terrorist organisation. The group is already banned at home. Mr. Bugti said it was the first time security forces acting on intelligence had captured a senior member of the Majeed Brigade. He said Qazi confessed to involvement in past attacks, including last year's railway station bombing in Quetta that killed 32 people. There was no immediate comment from the BLA about the arrest. Balochistan has long seen violence blamed on separatist groups, including the BLA. The province is rich in natural resources and home to projects tied to the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, where Chinese nationals and Pakistani security forces have also been targeted by insurgents. The separatists demand independence from Pakistan's central government in Islamabad. Though the government said it had quelled the insurgency, violence persists there.
