Trump pardons rapper NBA Youngboy, who was sentenced for gun-related charges
Louisiana rap artist NBA YoungBoy, who was sentenced to just under two years in prison on gun-related charges, was pardoned by President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
The rapper is among a number of high-profile people Trump pardoned this week, including a former New York congressman, a labor union leader and a reality TV star couple.
'I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building — as a man, as a father, and as an artist," NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell Gaulden, said in a statement posted online.
Gaulden's pardon was confirmed Wednesday evening by two White House officials who spoke on condition of anonymity to detail actions that had not yet been formally made public.
In 2024, Gaulden was sentenced by a federal judge in Utah after he acknowledged possessing weapons despite being a convicted felon. He reached an agreement that resolved Utah state charges against him and settled two sets of federal charges against him — one carried a 23-month sentence and the other ordered five years of probation and a $200,000 fine.
Gaulden was released from federal prison in March and sent to home confinement after receiving credit for time served, according to his attorney Drew Findling. With home confinement finished last month, the pardon means he won't have to follow the terms of his probation, including drug testing, he said.
Findling said he was thrilled Gaulden's legal saga had reached an end.
'From Louisiana to Utah the battles have been endless, and now he can concentrate on first and foremost his family, and then, of course, his amazing career,' Findling said in a statement.
The rapper has acknowledged that he possessed a Glock 21 .45-caliber pistol and a Masterpiece Arms MPA30T 9mm handgun while filming a rap video in Baton Rouge. He has also said he had a Sig Sauer 9mm semi-automatic pistol at his home in Huntsville, Utah. He had agreed to give up the guns.
Gaulden had previously been convicted in Louisiana of aggravated assault with a firearm, according to his statement released in advance of the plea agreement.
He had also pleaded guilty in November to his role in a prescription drug fraud ring that operated out of his home in Utah. He had to pay a $25,000 fine and was given no prison time.
The rapper, whose stage moniker stands for 'Never Broke Again,' is preparing to set out on a major U.S. tour in September.
He has achieved four No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 and one Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. His music includes '38 Baby,' 'Outside Today' and Tyler, The Creator's song, 'Wusyaname,' on which he is featured with Ty Dolla $ign. That collaboration earned them a Grammy nomination in 2022 for Best Melodic Rap Performance.

Eminem Sues Meta For $109 Million — But Why?
Eminem may have loved the way people lied years ago, but he doesn't love the way people steal. The 52-year-old rapper is suing Meta for $109 million due to copyright infringement. E! News obtained court documents showing that the lawsuit was filed on May 30. Eight Mile Style, Slim Shady's publishing company, claims that Meta violated the copyright of 243 songs within the Detroit rapper's catalog via 'unauthorized storage, reproduction and exploitation' on their platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and more. They cited specific features such as Original Audio and Reels, which 'allow and encourage its users to steal' his music to then utilize in their video content 'without proper attribution or license.' The 15-time Grammy winner is seeking $109 million in damages, which is the result of allocating $150,000 in damages to each song that is being illegally used. Meta has not commented on the lawsuit. Eminem has had a strong year, with his July 2024 album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and selling 281,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. The album featured JID, Big Sean, Babytron, Jelly Roll, and Skylar Grey. He followed up with the deluxe in September, adding 'Kyrie & Luka' with 2 Chainz and 'Fuel – Shady Edition' with Westside Boogie and Grip. Last month, Eminem shared the 25th anniversary edition of The Marshall Mathers LP, which included live versions of 'The Real Slim Shady' and 'The Way I Am' from the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. Slim Shady has also been active on the feature front, joining longtime collaborators Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent on 'Gunz N Smoke' in December 2024. Escaped Inmate Asks Lil Wayne, NBA YoungBoy, Meek Mill for Help
One of the inmates still on the lam after the recent jailbreak in New Orleans has put out a plea for help directed at Lil Wayne, Meek Mill, and NBA YoungBoy. Antoine Massey is one of two men who remains at large after escaping a New Orleans jail last month. Earlier this week, he appeared to post a nearly 10-minute video statement to Instagram, denying he came up with the plan for the jailbreak ('I didn't break out, I was let out'), proclaiming his innocence (he's facing charges of domestic violence), and asking for help. And because there's never a wrong time to shoot your shot, Massey also asked President Donald Trump for assistance. (Trump previously granted a pardon to Lil Wayne, and he just gave clemency to NBA YoungBoy.) 'I'm asking please for help — YoungBoy, Meek Mills,' Massey said. 'People that been through the system that know it's corrupt. Lil Wayne, Donald Trump. When I get back in custody, I'm asking y'all, please come help.' Reps for Wayne, Mill, and NBA YoungBoy did not immediately return requests for comment. The video featuring Massey was posted on June 1, and authorities found it credible enough that they carried out a search of a home where they believed the video was recorded, per The Associated Press. Authorities zeroed in on the location after being tipped off by relatives who recognized the residence, but Massey was not there when the police arrived. Officials did, however, say they found the clothes they think Massey was wearing in the clip. Massey was one of 10 people who escaped the New Orleans jail, fleeing through a hole that was carved out behind a toilet and then climbing over a wall. (The guard assigned to their cell pod was reportedly getting food at the time of the breakout.) Eight of the inmates who fled the jail have since been taken back into custody; along with Massey, the only inmate still at large is Derrick Groves, who was convicted of killing two people last fall. Trump pardoned NBA YoungBoy. Now the rapper has added a 2nd Phoenix concert
Chart-topping rapper NBA YoungBoy, who recently made headlines when President Donald Trump pardoned him on federal gun charges, has added 13 shows to his highly anticipated 2025 MASA TOUR, including a second metro Phoenix concert. A new date has been added at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025. That's in addition to the previously announced show at PHX Arena on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025. The Louisiana rapper, also known as YoungBoy Never Broke Again, was serving a 23-month sentence for federal gun charges when he received a presidential pardon in May. The MASA Tour is short for the Make America Slime Again Tour. In December, a federal judge in Utah sentenced NBA YoungBoy to 23 months in prison on gun-related charges with credit for time served followed by 60 months of probation and an additional $25,000 fine after the Louisiana rapper acknowledged possessing weapons despite being a felon, agreeing to give up the guns. Before reaching a plea agreement, he was facing maximums of 10 and 15 years each on two separate gun charges — one for being in possession of two guns while filming a music video in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the other for having a semi-automatic pistol in his Utah home. In late March, the rapper was transferred from a federal prison in Alabama to halfway house in Phoenix. Officially released on probation in April, he received a pardon from President Donald Trump in May. NBA YoungBoy was taken into custody after a raid on his Utah home turned up a semi-automatic pistol in his bedroom and evidence pointing to his role in what prosecutors alleged was a large-scale prescription drug fraud ring. NBA YoungBoy has no No. 1 his. He has, however, topped the Billboard album charts with four releases — two mixtapes and two studio releases. Tickets to the second NBA YoungBoy concert will be available starting with an artist presale on Wednesday, June 4. The general on-sale will start at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6, at VIP packages, which include premium tickets, a behind-the-scenes backstage tour, an invitation to the pre-show VIP Lounge, a VIP gift pack and more, are available at Ed has covered pop music for The Republic since 2007, reviewing festivals and concerts, interviewing legends, covering the local scene and more.
