Rangers must have belief to take more risks
However, the Taysiders stifled the home side while threatening in attack and they took the lead in the 51st minute through a looping Ryan Astley header.
Gers centre-back Nasser Djiga was sent off for a 'last man' challenge on Finlay Robertson just before the hour mark but as the game moved into added time Gers captain James Tavernier, who came off the bench, levelled from the spot.
Dessers had the ball in the net in the seventh minute of added time only to be ruled offside, which left the Light Blues with two points from six and having not won either of their opening two league games for the first time since 1989.
The Nigeria striker said: 'At this club, you need to win games and to win games, you need to score goals. Sometimes it takes a risky pass to open it up, or maybe even to scare the opponent so next time they don't step through on a midfielder and they stay in position and maybe then you open up the space a little bit more there.
'It's a little bit of belief, confidence.
'There's no time at this club. Not a lot of patience, which everybody knows when they play here and that's okay, that's fine, we're fine with that.
'But somewhere inside yourself, you need to find that confidence and the courage to go out there and do that, make the pass, make the dribble, try the shot, and just to create something for the team.
'I think we showed it at certain moments and then people talk about the European games or the Old Firm games last season. But like I said, it's the consistency.
'Can you do it on a Tuesday and do it again on Saturday and do it again on Tuesday? For me, that's the thing that's the next step for us.'
Dundee have next weekend off as they are not involved in the Premier Sports Cup fixtures but boss Steven Pressley, disappointed to have left Govan with only a point, will work his players in preparation for the game against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on August 23.
He said: 'We've actually organised two friendlies for next Thursday because I want to give all the players 90 minutes.
'You can see we've got some players still behind in their fitness, the likes of Callum Jones who came in late was struggling, he got cramp at the end of the game.
'So we need to use this time to build towards the Kilmarnock game.'

Rangers have withdrawn their request to rearrange their Premiership match against St Mirren on Sunday, August 24 if they reach the Champions League play-off round. The Ibrox club had initially opted to take advantage of the new SPFL rule that allows clubs involved in a European play-off round to postpone their intervening domestic game. (Photo by Rob Casey / SNS Group) | SNS Group Rangers go into the away leg of their third qualifying round tie against the Czech side with a 3-0 lead from the first leg at Ibrox last week thanks to a Djiemi Gassama double and a Cyriel Dessers penalty. Should Russell Martin's side progress as expected, they will meet either Club Brugge or Red Bull Salzburg in the play-off round either side of the trip to the SMiSA Stadium with the first leg on Tuesday, August 19 and the return leg on Wednesday, August 27. The change of heart from Rangers comes after Celtic chose not to postpone their league match at home to Livingston on the same weekend despite facing a Champions League play-off against either Kairat Almaty or Slovan Bratislava. An SPFL statement read: "Following further discussions with Rangers, St Mirren, and relevant stakeholders, we can confirm that Rangers have withdrawn their request to postpone their William Hill Premiership Round 3 match against St Mirren if they reach the play-off round of the Champions League. "The match will now take place as originally planned on Sunday August 24, kick-off 12 noon, with the game to be shown live on Sky Sports."

Axed Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma 'is targeted by ANOTHER Premier League big beast' amid interest from Man United
Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has reportedly been targeted by Manchester City as his future still remains to be decided this summer. Donnarumma, 26, has allegedly been frozen out of the PSG squad by Luis Enrique, with Pep Guardiola 's side the latest register their interest in one of the world's premier shot-stoppers. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Citizens are keen to purchase the Italian after he helped to guide PSG to their first-ever Champions League trophy last season. He wrote: 'Manchester City made contact with PSG to ask for Donnarumma deal conditions. 'Current PSG request around €50m, deemed too high and a deal would only be possible if Ederson leaves. Chelsea are not in the race. '[Donnarumma] will soon clarify his position'. According to RMC Sport, PSG's management have also taken further action to underline that his time at the club is coming at an end. This reportedly includes sidelining the goalkeeper from first team training following their return after reaching the FIFA Club World Cup final last month. The club are also claimed to have instructed Lucas Chevalier that he is PSG's new No 1 goalkeeper. Reports have touted Chelsea and Man United as the likeliest destinations for Donnarumma this summer. RMC Sport, however, reported that Donnarumma's representatives have stressed the goalkeeper remains in control of his own future. It is claimed that the Italian will not accept any move away from PSG, despite being sidelined by the club. The goalkeeper reportedly earns around £200,000-a-week at the Ligue 1 side. Donnarumma has made 161 appearances for PSG since joining the club from AC Milan back in 2021 on a free transfer. He has won four Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, three French Super Cups and the Champions League while at the club. Donnarumma has also enjoyed success with Italy having helped his nation be crowned European champions back in 2021.
