Bryan Mbeumo says he is excited to be following in Cristiano Ronaldo's footsteps at the "biggest club in the world" after signing for Manchester United. After weeks of drawn-out talks, the 25-year-old finally completed his move from Brentford on Monday for £65 million ($87 million) plus a potential £6 million in add-ons. The forward has signed a deal with the "club of my dreams" until 2030, with the option of a further season. "From the start I wanted to join this club, this massive club, and now I'm here and I'm just really happy," the Cameroon international told club media on Tuesday. The right-winger, who scored 20 Premier League goals for Brentford last season, has been signed to boost United's firepower. The team managed a paltry 44 goals in 38 Premier League matches last season as they finished an embarrassing 15th in the table. Mbeumo played at Brentford under Thomas Frank, who has since moved on to Tottenham, and he believes Amorim has a similar approach. "I think they have similar values," he said. "He seems really close to his players and his mentality, his winning thinking every time. This is a thing that I need. "It seems to be a really good group. I think the spirit is really important for winning and with the gaffer I heard only good things about the team." United head to the United States for their pre-season tour on Tuesday. Crystal Palace submit CAS appeal over Europa League demotion
Crystal Palace have lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against their demotion to the Conference League. A UEFA panel earlier this month recommended that Palace were denied entry to the Europa League, in which they qualified by winning the FA Cup last season, after it found the Premier League side and Ligue 1's Lyon breached the governing body of European football's multi-club ownership rules. Advertisement A CAS release on Tuesday confirmed receipt of Palace's appeal. The London club are requesting readmission to the Europa League with Nottingham Forest's admission rejected. Forest had replaced Palace in the competition by virtue of being the Premier League club with the highest finishing position not already qualified. Failing that, Palace are requesting to be admitted in place of Lyon, who earned priority over their English counterparts due to their superior league placing — sixth in Ligue 1, compared to Palace's 12th-place Premier League finish. CAS said Palace's case 'will be an expedited procedure with an operative decision (without grounds) to be rendered on or before 11 August 2025.' However, the qualifying play-off draw for the Conference League, which will include the English participant, takes place a week earlier on August 4. Last week, Palace chairman Steve Parish suggested Forest had played a significant role in the club's swapping European competitions. 'We're led to believe that's the issue,' Parish said. 'If there wasn't someone who wanted to get in as a consequence, then there wouldn't be a problem.' Eagle Football Holdings — the company run by American businessman John Textor — has a stake in both Palace and Lyon. UEFA rules state that two clubs cannot compete in the same competition if they are owned to a certain threshold of influence by the same person or entity. Eagle Football has a 77 per cent stake in Lyon, while The Athletic reported in June that Textor agreed to sell its 43 per cent stake in Palace to Woody Johnson, the owner of the New York Jets. UEFA's rules state a deadline of March 1 to show proof of multi-club ownership restructuring. Lyon's financial difficulties had thrown their European participation into doubt, with the French football authorities relegating them to Ligue 2, which would have seen them surrender their place in the Europa League, at the end of the season, only for the club to successfully appeal that decision. In an interview with Sky Sports, Parish described the decision from UEFA's Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) as a 'terrible injustice,' saying his club had been 'locked out of a European competition on the most ridiculous technicality.' Textor, meanwhile, who stepped down from his role as Lyon's president, said in an Instagram post: 'A black eye for UEFA that will never fade. We trusted that truth would prevail, did everything they asked, even dismantled a partnership that worked for the fans. Football must be played on the pitch, by players, not by bureaucrats.' Advertisement In July 2024, UEFA cleared multi-club pairs Manchester City and Girona (Champions League), and Manchester United and Nice (Europa League), to compete in the same tournaments due to off-field restructuring. The body said the concerned investors made necessary changes to ensure no one has 'control or decisive influence' over both teams.

Women in Sport charity founder says she and Anne discussed how sport has changed
The Princess Royal said 'it used to be a lot of old grey men' running sports but 'gradually it is changing', the founder of a women in sports charity said after Anne formally made her a Commander of the British Empire (CBE). Dr Anita White, founder of the Women in Sport charity, the International Working Group on Women and Sport, and the Anita White Foundation, was among those honoured at Windsor Castle on Tuesday. In the hallway of the royal residence she reconnected with the ParalympicsGB chef de mission, who two decades ago was selected for a leadership development course that Dr White was arranging. Penny Briscoe had also just been made a CBE and Dr White said they had not seen each other since the course. Describing her discussion with Anne, Dr White told the PA news agency: 'We spoke about how sport had changed, how it used to be a lot of old grey men running sport and how gradually it is changing.' The Princess Royal asked what sports the former captain of the England field hockey team had played. Dr White, who was left wing, told PA: 'I was captain of the England team and we won the World Cup in 1975 and we didn't get much recognition at the time – that made me aware of the kind of gender divide that there was, and I've been campaigning for women in sports ever since.' The 'huge change' she has witnessed in her career has been 'at the top level'. This can be seen in the attention garnered by the Lionesses squad, as well as the number of female sports presenters and women in leadership roles, she said. Dr White added: 'Inevitably there's still a certain amount of inequality in the way that girls are socialised. 'So they are terribly concerned with their appearance on social media, and not getting out there, maybe missing out on the pleasure and fun and good things that there are in sport.' 'There might be some regression of people thinking, well, because we see women in the media, we've cracked it – women in sport has been done and dusted – but of course that isn't the case,' she added. Ms Briscoe is the director of sport at the British Paralympic Association and has been selected as chef de mission for Los Angeles 2028. Dr White said people like Ms Briscoe 'ending up in a very senior position' is 'exactly one of the things that I continue to work for'. She added that, during their conversation at Windsor Castle, Ms Briscoe offered to help 'in any way she can with future work'. Dr White said she is particularly working on getting women into high-performance coaching. Anne said 'not you again' as Ms Briscoe collected her medal, the chef de mission told PA. ParalympicsGB last year finished second in the medal table for the third consecutive summer Games after winning 124 medals – 49 gold, 44 silver and 31 bronze – across 18 sports in Paris. LA 2028 will be Briscoe's 12th Paralympics and sixth as chef de mission – a role she first fulfilled at the 2014 winter Games in Sochi. Paralympic sport 'stepped out of the shadows' at the 2012 London Olympics, she said after collecting her honour for services to Paralympic sport. 'I definitely feel like I've been part of two eras of para sport, the pre-London era, where we had great athletes, we delivered great performances, but the media hadn't embraced para sport. 'It wasn't until our home Games, where every stadium was full – venues, the sport presentation, and the media, every kind of media, embraced para sport.' She added: 'I think the growth of the ParalympicsGB hasn't just been on the field of play, it's been what it's enabled off the field of play. 'So the platform that the Games provides for our athletes to have that voice, to demand changes in society.' Before joining ParalympicsGB in 2001, she was an athlete and then a coach in canoeing, which took her to the Olympics in 1996 and 2000.
