Five Eyes get sensitive space intel
The US has begun sharing its 'most sensitive' military intelligence on China's and Russia's space operations with the UK and other members of The Five Eyes (FVEY) global intelligence group, The Times has reported, citing a senior commander within the US Space Force.
Until this month, the work of Space Delta 9, a unit focused on America's orbital warfare, was largely meant only for US officials with top-secret security clearance.
However, in a move that a Space Delta 9 spokesman described to The Times as 'momentous,' British military chiefs have been allowed to observe operations at the unit's base in Colorado.
The other Five Eyes members, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, have also been allowed access to the highest levels of US space intelligence, the British daily reported on Wednesday.
The Times attributed the development to Beijing and Moscow allegedly developing 'new space capabilities,' such as dual use satellites, and orbiters designed for both civilian and military applications.
'We have to be ready for that fight that nobody wants to have,' Colonel Ramsey Horn, commander of Space Delta 9, told the paper. He went on to claim that the unit is 'more ready' than ever to engage in combat in space.
The US Defense Department has accused China of stockpiling anti-satellite weapons, raising concerns over what it describes as Beijing's increasing emphasis on space warfare. Chinese officials have rejected the claims and argued that militarization of space by the US poses the real threat to global stability.
Washington has made similar allegations against Russia, suggesting that Moscow may possess covert anti-satellite systems, potentially with nuclear capabilities. The Kremlin has dismissed the claims as baseless attempts to deflect attention from America's own military ambitions in space.
Both Russia and China have consistently stated their opposition to the weaponization of space and have advocated for keeping space a domain reserved for peaceful use.

UK plundering other nations at any cost
British foreign policy is focused on resource acquisition at any cost, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has said. Zakharova criticized what she called British egoism 'elevated to national ideology' in an interview on Monday. She was commenting on the invitation extended to Ukrainian troops to participate in the Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) parade in London. She claimed the gesture indicated Kiev's willingness to fight for British interests 'to the last Ukrainian.' 'Britain constantly needs resources. Britain constantly needs to rob, to steal, and preferably to kill, leaving no witnesses,' Zakharova stated. 'That is why those neo-Nazis marched in London streets.' She referenced historical instances of British colonialism and actions taken against Russia, including alliances with the Ottoman Empire in the mid-19th century, military interventions during the Russian Civil War, and current support for Ukraine. Zakharova condemned the British provocation in the Black Sea in June 2021, when the Royal Navy destroyer HMS Defender deliberately entered Russian waters off Crimea to observe Moscow's reaction. She also alleged recent British support for Ukrainian terrorist attacks on Russian territory. 'Britain is choosing the wrong tactic century after century,' Zakharova said. 'While they ponder how to use new technologies, schemes, and provocations to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia, it is moving forward. Russia is crushing all their plans.' The Ukrainian soldiers who participated in the VE Day procession on Monday are part of a contingent currently being trained by the British military to combat Russia. Defense Secretary John Healey described their presence as 'fitting,' claiming that the Ukrainian army is 'currently fighting on the front line of freedom.' Zakharova emphasized that the Ukrainian government is actively eradicating links to the country's Soviet past, while promoting as national heroes Ukrainian nationalists who collaborated with the Nazis. Given Ukrainian participation, she asserted that the May 8 march would resemble demonstrations by Oswald Mosley's British Union of Fascists. Unlike in the 1936 Battle of Cable Street, the modern British public is indoctrinated by its government and is unlikely to object, she claimed.

Chinese exporters dodging US tariffs
Chinese exporters are using various methods to avoid steep US tariffs, including shipping goods through third countries to obscure their origin, Financial Times reported on Sunday, citing trade consultants, customs officials, and social media posts. The practice, known as 'place-of-origin washing,' involves rerouting goods through countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, and South Korea, and re-exporting them to the United States with new certificates of origin. The administration of US President Donald Trump recently imposed steep tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese goods, citing national security and trade imbalance concerns. Chinese exporters fear that the tariffs will deprive them of access to one of their most important markets. According to the outlet, Chinese social media platforms are awash with ads offering 'place-of-origin washing.' 'The US must know of it,' one Malaysian salesperson has told FT. 'It cannot get too crazy so we are controlling the amount [of orders we take].' According to FT, authorities in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand are looking into the alleged practice and are implementing measures to tighten origin checks. Chinese exporters typically sell goods 'free on board' (FOB), transferring liability to buyers once the goods leave China, which complicates enforcement efforts, the outlet added. The other reported circumvention method is mixing high-cost items with cheaper goods, so exporters can underreport overall values of shipments, the FT quoted a cross-border trade consultant as saying. There are intermediaries who reportedly offer 'grey area' tariff workarounds to small- and medium-sized enterprises. Beijing has accused Washington of 'economic bullying,' retaliating with 125% duties on all US imports and implementing export controls. The Chinese Commerce Ministry said last week that it was evaluating the possibility of trade negotiations with the US but reiterated that Washington must show 'sincerity' by canceling its tariffs if it wants meaningful dialogue.

US foreign policy driven by resource competition – former South African envoy
Former South African ambassador to the United States Ebrahim Rasool, expelled from Washington in March after accusing Donald Trump of promoting white supremacy, has warned that a new global conflict is underway, not over oil, but over critical minerals. Speaking at a Jumu'ah lecture at Masjidul Quds Institute in Cape Town recently, Rasool said: 'Let me give you an example, some statistics, the United States has identified 50 critical minerals for its immediate future if it is going to remain the leader and not cede leadership to China in the tech revolution. 'Of the 50, they are 100% dependent on other countries for 12 of those 50,' he continued. 'They are more than 50% dependent on 29 of those 50 minerals. And they are dependent on China for 13 of those. And China has captured 90% of the processing market for all of that.' Rasool tied the US response to this dependency to what he described as a militarised, resource-driven foreign policy. 'It's not that Donald Trump is suddenly waking up and saying, I hate Chinese because of this, that, and the other. It is because the tech robber barons have told him - You've got to go to war.' He pointed to South Africa's military involvement in the Democratic Republic of Congo as proof of its role in defending the continent's mineral wealth. 'South Africa showed when it lost 18 soldiers in the Eastern DRC, defending the critical minerals of the DRC, it showed its willingness to protect Africa, because Africa has 30% of the critical minerals of the world.' 'South Africa itself has 70% of the platinum critical minerals,' he added. 'No new car can be driven without platinum, because platinum is the core ingredient of catalytic converters.' He said that the world is entering a dangerous new phase, a 'scramble for critical minerals' that is driving global tensions and US foreign policy. 'This is not the scramble for oil,' Rasool said. 'This is the scramble for critical minerals.' He suggested that US interest in Arctic access, Greenland, and control of global trade routes was all part of this strategy. 'The whole issue of Canada - Canada has 30% of the world's critical minerals,' he said. 'It's not a joke about the 51st state. It's to beat them into submission.' He also criticised US actions around global shipping routes. 'The Panama Canal, bombing the Houthis to make sure the Suez Canal always stays open so that it flows, the critical minerals flow through.' Rasool claimed that the US wants to ensure the Panama Canal 'never gets into hostile hands because the critical minerals have to flow.' 'My respected brothers and sisters, if we want to understand this changing, ominous global landscape, then be amused by the apparent madness, but look for the method in the madness.' Rasool was expelled from the US in March 2025 after accusing President Donald Trump of promoting white supremacy both at home and abroad, and drew attention to Vice President JD Vance's and Elon Musk's connections to far-right movements. This led to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio declaring Rasool persona non grata, calling him a 'race-baiting politician who hates America.' His diplomatic privileges were revoked, and he was given 72 hours to leave the country. The incident further strained already tense US and South Africa relations, which had been deteriorating over disagreements around South Africa's land reform program and its genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice. After arriving back in Cape Town, Western Cape, Rasool said he stood by his words. 'I have no regrets,' he said. 'This is a badge of dignity.' Meanwhile, President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Mcebisi Jonas as South Africa's new Special Envoy to the United States, amid diplomatic tensions between the two countries. Jonas, who 'is entrusted with the responsibility to advance South Africa's diplomatic, trade and bilateral priorities' is a former Deputy Finance Minister, a statement issued by the Presidency said. His appointment comes as South Africa has been given a three-month breather to endeavour to negotiate better trade terms with the US than the initial 30% tariffs imposed by US Donald Trump as well as Ebrahim Rasool's expulsion last month. 'This appointment underscores his distinguished career and continued commitment to advancing South Africa's national and economic interests,' said the Presidency's published by IOL
