Kaizer Chiefs announce signing number NINE!
Kaizer Chiefs are not slowing down on the field and nor are they doing so on the transfer market. Chiefs have started the season in perfect fashion winning three out of their three games so far as things stand. That has resulted in nine points and three clean sheets in the process. It seems that Chiefs are winning both on and off the field. On Tuesday it was confirmed that Luke Baartman had won his case against Cape Town Spurs, arguing he is a free agent. This after the club was relegated to the amateur ranks. Just like his former captain at the club and fellow new Amakhosi signing Asanele Velebayi, he was fighting for his clearance. Velebayi was announced by Chiefs straight after the ruling on the PSL DRC and now so has Baartman. Following the attacker's victory, he was announced as a Glamour Boy on the same day. 'Following this morning's announcement of the acquisition of Etiosa Ighodaro, Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to confirm the signing of another forward, Luke Baartman, making him the Club's ninth signing of the 2025/26 season. The 19-year-old junior international joins Amakhosi from Cape Town Spurs, where he played in the Motsepe Foundation League last season. He has also represented South Africa at the junior level. 'We're thrilled to welcome Luke to our team,' says Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr. 'He is an exciting young talent that we've been monitoring for the past few seasons both at Club level, in the Bayhill Cup – where he was voted player of the tournament – and the U-17 national team that played at AFCON. We believe he will bring valuable versatility, playing both as a centre-forward and a winger. We look forward to seeing him in action soon.' Wrote the club on their website . Baartman training with his new teammates is still subject to the Spurs appeal decision, just like Velebayi. Chiefs fans, are you happy to see Baartman announced by your club? Kaizer Chiefs: Motaung on why Amakhosi signed Baartman
Kaizer Chiefs have announced the signing of Luke Baartman on a free transfer. The 19-year-old was formerly in the books of Cape Town Spurs before they got relegated from the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Baartman joins Amakhosi a day after his Spurs teammate Asanele Velebayi was unveiled as a Chiefs player. 'Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to confirm the signing of another forward, Luke Baartman, making him the Club's ninth signing of the 2025/26 season. The 19-year-old junior international joins Amakhosi from Cape Town Spurs,' the club said in a statement on Tuesday evening. Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr welcomed the youngster to Naturena. 'We're thrilled to welcome Luke to our team. He is an exciting young talent that we've been monitoring for the past few seasons both at club level, in the Bayhill Cup – where he was voted player of the tournament – and the U-17 national team that played at AFCON,' he said. 'We believe he will bring valuable versatility, playing both as a centre-forward and a winger. We look forward to seeing him in action soon,' said the Kaizer Chiefs boss on Baartman. Amakhosi have signed three players in a space of two days. In total, the Glamour Boys have made nine new signings this season. Done deal: Kaizer Chiefs sign teen sensation Luke Baartman after PSL declares him a free agent
Done deal Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs have completed the signing of teenager Luke Baartman from Cape Town Spurs on a free transfer. Photo: Ryan Wilkisky/BackpagePix 'He is an exciting young talent that we've been monitoring for the past few seasons both at Club level, in the Bayhill Cup – where he was voted player of the tournament – and the U-17 national team that played at AFCON. 'We're thrilled to welcome Luke to our team,' the club's Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr said. Baartman had earlier on Tuesday been declared a free agent by the PSL's by the PSL's Dispute Resolution Chamber after the club's attempt to sign him for free had been contested by Cape Town Spurs. 'We believe he will bring valuable versatility, playing both as a centre-forward and a winger. We look forward to seeing him in action soon.' At just 19 years old, striker Baartman is regarded as one of the most exciting young footballers in South Africa. He boasts impressive technical skills, including excellent ball control, dribbling, and first touch. While primarily a centre-forward, Baartman is adaptable and can perform in various attacking roles. While at Spurs, he was often deployed as an inside forward, winger, and advanced playmaker. Despite still being a teenager, he has been praised for his maturity and decision-making on the field. Off the field, he's shown a lot of dedication to improving his game, something the hierarchy at Naturena will appreciate in a player so young. Unfortunately, despite all of his talents, he still needs to put a lot of time in the gym, as his slight frame might struggle in the top-flight. Because he's still so young, he has plenty of time to become a more all-rounded footballer. IOL Sport
