Delegates from Umno divisions, Wanita, Youth and Puteri arrive for party divisional delegates' meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: Delegates from Umno Divisions, Wanita, Youth, and Puteri have begun to gather for the Umno Divisional Delegates' Meetings starting today until July 27.
Umno president and deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a Facebook post, urged party members to make this conference a platform to strengthen political communication, renew promises, and reinforce determination.
"Let this conference be a platform for us to strengthen the three political approaches I outlined previously: Politics of Solution, Politics of Legacy, and Politics of Moderation.
"This is the foundation of our struggle that needs to be translated into every action, decision, and effort at all party levels," he said.
The Bagan Datuk member of parliament also wished Umno members a successful conference, reminding them that the party must continue to amplify the voice of the people, empathise with the anxieties and aspirations of the youth, and stand strong as a party that is rearing to move forward, even as times change.
"Our strength lies not only in our historical heritage but in the unity of our hearts and the clarity of direction we uphold together.
"I believe that as long as there is sincerity in togetherness, and as long as this struggle is carried out with a pure spirit, Umno will continue to flourish as a vessel of hope for the people and a pillar of stability and national progress," he said.
Previously, the Umno Branch Conferences were held from April 7 to May 25, 2025, while the Umno General Assembly is scheduled to take place from Aug 20 to 23, 2025.

By-election not worth time or money, says Tengku Zafrul

Tengku Zafrul Aziz denied having discussions for a by-election to pave the way for him to become Selangor menteri besar. PETALING JAYA : Tengku Zafrul Aziz has dismissed speculation of an impending by-election in Selangor to pave the way for him to become menteri besar. Tengku Zafrul, who is investment, trade and industry minister, said no such discussions for a by-election had taken place and it was never a factor in his decision to quit Umno. 'I do not support triggering by-elections without urgent necessity as they incur time and public funds,' he said in a statement. Tengku Zafrul announced his decision to resign as an Umno member, as well as from all party posts, on May 30. He also expressed his intention to join PKR. Tengku Zafrul today said he would continue carrying out his responsibilities until the end of this year. 'As for my position as a minister, I leave this entirely to the discretion of the prime minister. I remain ready to serve the nation in any capacity.' He also reaffirmed that his decision to leave Umno was entirely his own and made without coercion. 'In a democratic society, every individual has the right to make personal choices. I deeply appreciate all the feedback and acceptance extended to me in response to this decision,' Tengku Zafrul said. There has been much speculation over his fate as minister as his final term as senator expires at the end of the year. Also, there is talk of a Cabinet reshuffle following the resignation of Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad from their respective ministerial posts. In a Facebook video previously, former Umno leader Isham Jalil claimed that Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari would be ordered to vacate his Sungai Tua seat to allow Tengku Zafrul to contest in the by-election. Winning the by-election could then allow Tengku Zafrul to take over as menteri besar, as speculated previously, while Amirudin could join Anwar's Cabinet as he is also the Gombak MP at present. Amirudin has also denied speculation that he is set to vacate his state seat to make way for Tengku Zafrul, describing it as just empty talk based on the 'wild imagination' of certain individuals who were seeking to spread that narrative via social media. The PKR vice-president also said he did not want to see a repeat of the 'Kajang Move' in 2014, which culminated in the late Abdul Khalid Ibrahim resigning as the then Selangor menteri besar. FMT quoted political analyst James Chin as saying that any move to get Amirudin to vacate his seat to make way for Tengku Zafrul would damage PKR's image in the eyes of voters and grassroots members.

Malaysia Expresses Deep Concern Over Detention Of Madleen Flotilla Crew

PUTRAJAYA, June 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is deeply concerned over the detention of individuals aboard the Madleen flotilla bound for Gaza. In a statement on Monday, the Foreign Ministry, Wisma Putra, stated that the very purpose of this peaceful humanitarian mission was to pave the way for the delivery of critically-needed humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, who continue to be subjected to mass starvation because of the inhumane blockade imposed by the Zionist Israeli regime. 'The interception and harassment of the flotilla's crew exposed a deliberate and ruthless obstruction of humanitarian aid that could potentially bring some relief to the most vulnerable, including children, women, and the elderly.

Japan and South Korea agree to deal with geopolitical crises under three-way cooperation with the US

SEOUL (Bernama-Yonhap): South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba agreed to address geopolitical crises under the framework of trilateral cooperation with the United States in their first phone talks on Monday, Yonhap News Agency reported, citing the presidential office. During the 25-minute conversation, Lee and Ishiba also reaffirmed the importance of bilateral ties between the two neighbours and expressed hope to meet in person at an early date, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung told reporters. "Lee expressed hope that the two countries would work together to explore mutually beneficial approaches to addressing future challenges from the perspective of their shared national interests," Kang said. Lee, who has pursued a "pragmatic" diplomacy, and Ishiba shared a consensus on the need to build a more "solid and mature" bilateral relationship based on "mutual respect, trust and a responsible attitude," Kang said. Recognising the 60th anniversary of the normalisation of diplomatic relations between the two nations later this month, Lee and Ishiba agreed to promote people-to-people exchanges and enhance communication between their governments. A potential venue for their first in-person meeting could be the Group of Seven summit in Canada, scheduled for June 15-17, where Lee has been invited as a guest. Since taking office, Lee has stressed the need for policy coherence in dealing with Japan, signalling his intention to uphold the previous Yoon Suk Yeol administration's approach on the wartime forced labour issue, which helped ease strained ties between Seoul and Tokyo. It marks Lee's second call with a foreign leader, following his first conversation with US President Donald Trump on Friday. Lee's office is also arranging a phone call with Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to a senior presidential official. - Bernama-Yonhap
