Delegates from Umno divisions, Wanita, Youth and Puteri arrive for party divisional delegates' meeting

KUALA LUMPUR: Delegates from Umno Divisions, Wanita, Youth, and Puteri have begun to gather for the Umno Divisional Delegates' Meetings starting today until July 27.
Umno president and deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in a Facebook post, urged party members to make this conference a platform to strengthen political communication, renew promises, and reinforce determination.
"Let this conference be a platform for us to strengthen the three political approaches I outlined previously: Politics of Solution, Politics of Legacy, and Politics of Moderation.
"This is the foundation of our struggle that needs to be translated into every action, decision, and effort at all party levels," he said.
The Bagan Datuk member of parliament also wished Umno members a successful conference, reminding them that the party must continue to amplify the voice of the people, empathise with the anxieties and aspirations of the youth, and stand strong as a party that is rearing to move forward, even as times change.
"Our strength lies not only in our historical heritage but in the unity of our hearts and the clarity of direction we uphold together.
"I believe that as long as there is sincerity in togetherness, and as long as this struggle is carried out with a pure spirit, Umno will continue to flourish as a vessel of hope for the people and a pillar of stability and national progress," he said.
Previously, the Umno Branch Conferences were held from April 7 to May 25, 2025, while the Umno General Assembly is scheduled to take place from Aug 20 to 23, 2025.

Accompanying Al-Sultan Abdullah was Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah. Their Royal Highnesses were greeted on arrival by AIPA president and Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Johari Abdul; Pahang State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin; and other state government leaders. Upon arrival, the royal couple took time to visit a stall showcasing renowned Kain Tenun Pahang. Adding to the evening's significance, the banquet featured traditional Pahang delicacies, including patin buah bakar tempoyak and patin buah gulai tempoyak, alongside classic desserts such as puding raja and kuih pena. The dinner was held with the consent of Al-Sultan Abdullah, symbolising the royal institution's support for inter-parliamentary diplomacy, in fostering a safer and more sustainable future for ASEAN. Themed 'Uniting Parliaments for an Inclusive and Sustainable ASEAN in Addressing Contemporary Drug Challenges', the meeting began today to discuss the commitment of ASEAN member states in addressing current drug-related challenges, collectively and comprehensively, particularly on cybercrime and human trafficking issues. The meeting will continue tomorrow, with deliberations and the adoption of the official resolution, before concluding with a closing ceremony and a speech of appreciation by the representative of the Philippines, as the host of the next session. Earlier, Al-Sultan Abdullah granted Johari an audience at Istana Abdulaziz, here, and spent almost an hour discussing and exchanging views, followed by luncheon.

Zambry urges scholarship providers to diversify student placements beyond US

PUTRAJAYA: Local scholarship providers have been urged to make immediate decisions regarding placing their sponsored students in countries other than the United States (US), following the impact of new tariff policies introduced by the country. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said Malaysia had many high-achieving students qualified to pursue studies in the world's best universities, not exclusively in the US. "We can no longer be trapped by policies that are too regressive in nature, to the extent of jeopardising opportunities for students from all over the world, including Malaysia, to study. "For me, the best universities are also available in other countries," he said when met at the 'Luncheon Talk With Editors' session in conjunction with the Asean-Malaysia Chairmanship 2025 Programme, organised by the Higher Education Ministry, here today. He was commenting on the impact of new US tariff policies on Malaysian students pursuing studies there. Previously, the Trump administration issued directives to halt the processing of visas for all foreign students and considered measures to screen new applicants based on their social media posts. Mara chairman Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki was reportedly quoted as saying that Mara would stop sending its sponsored students to the US starting this year, following the introduction of President Donald Trump's new policies. – BERNAMA

Rodziah stands firm in Ampang amid Tengku Zafrul candidacy talk

Rodziah Ismail's affirmation of her commitment to Ampang comes after reports suggested PKR might consider fielding Tengku Zafrul Aziz in a Selangor parliamentary seat in the next general election. PETALING JAYA : Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail has reaffirmed her commitment to the constituency amid speculation that investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz may contest the seat in the next general election. The PKR lawmaker said in a statement that she remained focused on serving the people of Ampang, a seat she has held since the 15th general election (GE15) in 2022. 'It's been almost three years since the people of Ampang entrusted me to represent them in Parliament. 'The bitter experience of 2022 taught us one thing – the people's trust must never be betrayed. 'I remain committed to developing Ampang together with the community, restoring its charm and ensuring your voice remains my priority,' she said. Last week, Tengku Zafrul announced that he had quit Umno and expressed his intention to join PKR, further fuelling speculation about his political future. Reports yesterday suggested PKR might consider fielding him in a Selangor parliamentary seat in the next general election. Quoting grassroots leaders, China Press reported PKR is more likely to field him to contest a parliamentary seat in Selangor since the general election is expected to be held in about a year's time. Among the seats mentioned was Ampang, which is currently held by Rodziah. In February, FMT also quoted sources as saying Tengku Zafrul was likely to contest an urban Selangor seat in the next general election, with Ampang among the top choices. Among the other constituencies apparently being considered are Petaling Jaya and Pandan, both currently held by PKR MPs. Rodziah, a seasoned politician and former Selangor executive councillor, won the Ampang seat in GE15 with a majority of over 20,000 votes.
