Benidorm writer hints he's already working on reboot with poolside post as soap star begs to join show

The Sun24-04-2025

BENIDORM writer Derren Litten has dropped a big clue that he's already working on the rebooted series.
The Sun revealed last month that bosses are in secret talks over a comeback for the award-winning series about Brits abroad, with hopes of reuniting the all-star cast.

Comedy writer and director Derren shared a photo of him sitting by a poolside surrounded by palm trees.
He posed with a thumbs up and teased fans about his location but kept tight-lipped about where he was.
Darren wrote: "No idea where I am but it's all good. Might stay here for a bit."
It caught the attention of EastEnders actress Cheryl Fergison, who played Heather Trott on the BBC soap before her character was killed off in 2012.
Cheryl, 59, commented: "Can I join ya Mr," with a heart smiley emoji.
Fans were keen for soap legend Cheryl to land a spot on the rebooted version, with one writing: "You'd be fab in Benidorm!"
Favourites included Tim Healy's cross-dressing bartender Les, and loud-mouth matriarch Madge Harvey, played by Sheila Reid — who chain-smoked while driving around the resort on her mobility scooter.
Sherrie Hewson, who played hotel manager Joyce Temple-Savage, has been approached — letting slip in a podcast: ' Benidorm is coming back.'
A source said: 'Benidorm was adored by millions when it was suddenly cancelled. Fans will be thrilled to hear ITV wants to bring it back.
'An 11th series hasn't been commissioned yet, but there's major excitement building as early talks begin.
'Producers have started to reach out to the show's stars and are hopeful a decision can be made later this year.'
Benidorm, which was first aired in 2007, was scrapped in 2018 — two months before winning Best Comedy at the TV Choice Awards.
Creator Derren slammed ITV's axe, telling the crowd as he picked up the gong: 'This is a bit awkward, the show's just been cancelled.'
He added sarcastically: 'I've huge respect for ITV — a show that's getting five and a half million viewers and still picking up awards, but they've cancelled it. That takes balls.'
Six months ago, Derren — who has been working as a DJ in Spain in recent years — launched a Facebook group promising superfans 'exclusive Benidorm pictures, videos, gossip and exclusive content not shown anywhere else'.
He fuelled speculation of a Benidorm spin-off when he said he was returning to writing for TV and theatre.

He then apologised before explaining that the judges had found Charm's routine funny. The routine was performed before the 9pm watershed, meaning swearing is not allowed. Due to this, host Dec also had to apologise, saying: "Apologies if you were offended by Bruno's slip of the tongue there." It paves the way for Simon Cowell to put his favourite guest judge — social media star KSI — in the flamboyant Italian's place. 1 Bruno Tonioli's future on the show has been thrown into doubt - pictured with Simon Cowell Credit: Rex Former Strictly judge Bruno replaced David Walliams on the panel in 2023, joining Simon, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon. KSI, who has 75million social media followers, has guested on the ITV show whenever Simon has invited him, including last night's BGT final and in 2024 when Bruno was filming in the US. 'A real charming man' A source said: 'There is no doubt that KSI's social media clout is exactly what the BGT panel needs, and Simon loves the edge he brings. 'TV isn't getting the viewing figures it did a decade ago, so to have someone who can tell their followers to sit down and watch the box can have a real impact. 'Because of the scheduling issues, insiders are certain that Simon will offer KSI a more long-term position in the show.' Speaking last week, Bruno, 69, insisted he didn't feel threatened by the 31-year-old YouTube sensation. He said: 'We're both young, attractive, multi-talented stars, known the world over. Joking aside, I think KSI is fantastic — a real charming man, full of energy. 'We attended the Brits together too, which was a fabulous evening.' After KSI's first appearance on BGT in February, his fans demanded that the Prime energy drink mogul become a permanent fixture. A BGT spokesman declined to comment. Britain's Got Talent viewers slam Bruno Tonioli for hitting Golden Buzzer after act's TV past is exposed But an insider added: 'We had a similar situation last year. 'Bruno was filming Dancing With The Stars in October but was still available to film BGT auditions in Blackpool. In this year's series, KSI stepped in as a guest judge for both Bruno and Simon on different audition dates.'
