Packers Fans React To Major News On Star CB Jaire Alexander
Packers Fans React To Major News On Star CB Jaire Alexander originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Jaire Alexander saga was the central storyline of the Green Bay Packers offseason. Internally, the Packers expressed frustration over his inability to stay on the field, and reports indicated they were actively exploring trade options. At the annual owners meeting, General Manager Brian Gutekunst said the team was 'working through that' regarding Alexander's future, even suggesting there was a possibility the star cornerback could remain with the team in 2025.

On Monday, the saga between Alexander and the Packers officially came to an end.
After seven seasons, the Packers will reportedly release the two-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler, freeing up $16.09 million in cap space for 2025. It was a tough but necessary business decision by Green Bay. A healthy Jaire Alexander is one of the premier cornerbacks in the league, but he has missed 34 of the last 68 games and would have the third-largest cap hit on the team in 2025.
The report quickly spread across social media, sparking immediate reactions from Packers fans and the media alike.

"The Packers are better with a healthy Jaire Alexander," CheeseheadTV wrote. "But a $17.5 million bet on a healthy season from a guy who has only played 34 games since 2020 was never going to work."
"The Packers had a top-10 defense without him last year," they added. "They've since upgraded that same unit with the Stokes-for-Hobbs swap, and now they have the money and roster flexibility to do even more if needed."

The Packers Brazil fan account on X also took time to share its thoughts on Alexander's release.
"Jaire Alexander was one of the most iconic players of recent years — charismatic, cocky, feisty, skilled, talented, and also a game-changer," they wrote.
"It's a shame his story in Green Bay had to end this way, but unfortunately, the league is a business," they added.
AtoZSports' Wendell Ferreira also weighed in on the financial implications of Green Bay moving on from Alexander.
"The Packers now have $46.056 million in cap space, third-most in the NFL," Wendell wrote.
"Jaire's release was even more important to 2026," he added. "The Packers were projected to be over the cap in 2026 by $9.959 million, and now they are projected to have $7.534 million."

Hopefully, Alexander can land with a contender in the AFC and get a fresh start — with a real chance to stay healthy and chase a Lombardi Trophy. The Packers will face Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2025, and if Alexander signs with an AFC North team, he could face Green Bay as soon as this season.

Yankees starter is erasing doubts and building All-Star buzz
Yankees starter is erasing doubts and building All-Star buzz originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Carlos Rodon Is Pitching Like an All-Star Again. And Took Notice The New York Yankees have spent the first half of 2025 juggling injuries, rehab assignments, and next-man-up pitching plans. But through it all, Carlos Rodon has been a rock of the rotation. Advertisement Now, the left-hander is getting national recognition to match his resurgence. included Rodon on its new list of players who could snap an All-Star drought this season. It would be his first Midsummer Classic nod since 2022. New York Yankees starting pitcher Carlos RodonBrad Penner-Imagn Images And his first as a Yankee. Rodon's performance this season makes a strong case. He owns a 2.87 ERA, a 3.27 FIP, and a 10.9 K/9 rate, all his best marks since arriving in the Bronx. More importantly, he's been dominant when the Yankees have needed him most. With Gerrit Cole shut down for the year after Tommy John surgery and the Yankees still waiting for Luis Gil to make his 2025 debut, Rodon has stepped up. Over his last 10 starts, he's posted a 1.90 ERA, settling into the kind of rhythm the Yankees hoped for when they handed him a six-year, $162 million deal ahead of the 2023 season. Advertisement His beginnings in the Bronx were a disaster Between injuries and inconsistency, Rodon never looked like himself. And he certainly did not look like a $162-million pitcher. Even early this year, there were questions about whether he'd fully recapture the form that made him an All-Star with the White Sox in 2021 and the Giants in 2022. Now, midway through June, those questions are getting quieter — and Rodon is pitching louder. If he keeps this up, Yankee fans might finally see Rodon walk into an All-Star clubhouse again — this time wearing New York on his chest. Known for its tight fairways, deep rough, and lightning-fast greens, Oakmont doesn't leave much room for error. The lowest winning score at this venue? Just 5-under. Advertisement Scottie Scheffler, fresh off wins at the Memorial and the PGA Championship, enters as the betting favorite but he's not letting the noise get to him. 'The U.S. Open compared to the Masters is a completely different type of test. I think in the Masters you have a lot more shot making when you get around the greens,' Scheffler said at his press conference Tuesday. 'It's just a different type of test,' he said. Comparing it to tennis, where majors are played on different surfaces. "When you miss a green at the Masters, the ball kind of runs away and it goes into these areas and you can play a bump, you can play a flop," Scheffler said. He emphasized how strength and precision will be key, saying, ' Here, when you hit the ball over the green, you're just getting some heavy rough and it's like, let me see how I can pop the ball out of this rough and somehow give myself a look.'
