US Refuses Air Cover For European 'Reassurance Force' In Postwar Ukraine

The British and French-led effort to establish a 'coalition of the willing' to stand up to Russia and defend Ukraine just hit another major roadblock, as Bloomberg is reporting Wednesday the US has effectively vetoed a plan to provide American air defenses to back a 'reassurance force' for postwar Ukraine. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been insisting that US-backed air defenses are key to any future permanent settlement plans for ending the war. Western proposals for ending the war have all featured foreign-backed and monitored security guarantees for Ukraine. On this, Starmer had said back in February that 'There must be a US backstop' and that the 'US security guarantee is the only way to effectively deter Russia from attacking Ukraine again.' After Western billions already sunk into keeping Ukraine's military and civic infrastructure afloat, the UK and France are also seeking from President Trump pledges of future air power, and border surveillance and intelligence. The Europeans also envision a strong, permanent security bulwark backed by the United States along NATO's eastern flank. Yet, President Trump has repeatedly warned allies that if NATO countries don't pay their fair share they won't be protected. This despite European leaders as well as some US politicians expressing recent concern that the Atlantic alliance is becoming weaker than ever, and that Article 5 collective defense is in peril. Trump has lashed out at NATO countries for not even meeting their current two percent spending goal while the unfair burden has long fallen United States. 'We appreciate the work that the allies, particularly France and the United Kingdom together with Germany and others have undertaken to develop the coalition of the willing,' US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said at a press breifing Brussels on Wednesday. 'We are counting on all our European allies to continue taking the leadership position in contributing military resources and providing the political capital to make security guarantees a reality.' All of this comes as it was only on Tuesday that Dutch slapped down a proposal to increase defense spending to 3.5% of gross domestic product (GDP), key to NATO's capability targets, in a non-binding motion. Ordinary billionaires settle for a superyacht, but the Qatari royal family bought an entire marina in Spain and upgraded it just so their $500 million megayacht can dock in secrecy on their frequent summer retreats from Doha's blistering heat

This week, one of the most extraordinary vessels on the water, Al Lusail, the private superyacht of the Emir of Qatar, was spotted sailing along Spain's Mediterranean coast, drawing awe from onlookers and yacht enthusiasts alike. The 123-meter floating palace made a quiet return to Port Tarraco Marina, one of the few Mediterranean ports specifically equipped to accommodate vessels of its scale and stature. Interestingly, the port was previously owned by Qatar. Designed for privacy, security, and world-class luxury, Al Lusail is among the most technically advanced and visually distinctive superyachts in the world. Built by the renowned German shipyard Lürssen and delivered in 2017, the vessel boasts sleek, futuristic lines penned by British design studio H2 Yacht Design, with a lavish interior by March & White. The yacht features multiple swimming pools, a helipad, cinema, beach club, and expansive lounges tailored for relaxation and discreet meetings at sea. Though full details remain a closely guarded secret, Al Lusail is believed to accommodate up to 36 guests in absolute comfort, attended to by a highly trained crew. Its arrival at Port Tarraco, located in Tarragona just an hour south of Barcelona, is more than a picturesque stop along the Mediterranean. The marina itself has a quiet but notable history, originally developed with the capacity and infrastructure to berth some of the world's largest private vessels, Al Lusail included. In fact, while not officially confirmed, industry insiders often suggest that the marina's impressive specifications were influenced, at least in part, by the needs of the Qatari royal fleet during its original development in the early 2000s. With 33 berths ranging from 45 to 160 meters, Port Tarraco is one of the few facilities in Spain and indeed the broader region that can comfortably receive multiple 100-meter-plus yachts at once. Its deep-water access, high-capacity shore power, and advanced security systems make it ideal for ultra-high-net-worth individuals seeking discretion, safety, and elite service. It was indirectly under the ownership of the Emir after it was purchased by the Qatari Diar Fund in 2011. Despite its past ties to Qatari investment via the Qatari Diar Fund, the port was sold in 2020 to Spanish marina operator Ocibar, who now manage it alongside other premier facilities such as Port Adriano and Marina Botafoc. British School of Bahrain's new senior school campus to open in 2026

The British School of Bahrain (BSB) has announced the development of a purpose-built Senior School campus, set to open for the 2026/2027 academic year. Located just a short walk from the current site and adjacent to the Al Liwan Commercial Centre, the new campus represents a major step forward in BSB's commitment to future-focused education. The launch comes as the school celebrates 30 years of delivering premium British education in Bahrain. In collaboration with Global Education consultants and leading architectural firm MSCEB, the campus has been designed to educate students from Year 10 through to Year 13. This next-generation facility will feature thoughtfully designed classrooms to support a range of learning styles, purpose-built study areas for independent and collaborative learning, and cutting-edge technology including the integration of Inspired AI, Inspired Education's pioneering artificial intelligence platform to boost learning outcomes. Students will also benefit from exceptional extra-curricular and performance facilities, including a FIFA-standard football pitch, athletics track, multi-purpose sports hall, an 8-lane indoor swimming pool, and an acoustically engineered 800 sqm auditorium with seating for over 500 guests. Nadim M. Nsouli, Founder, Chairman & CEO of Inspired Education, commented: 'The new BSB campus aligns with Inspired's vision of providing its students with a premium education in state-of the-art-facilities demonstrating our commitment to excellence in academics, sports and the creative and performing arts.' 'This is more than a new building. It is a meaningful investment in the future of our students,' said Executive Headteacher Liz Stanley. 'As we celebrate three decades of shaping young minds, this next chapter enables us to reimagine what senior education can be. We are creating an environment that inspires ambition, encourages independence, and equips every student to thrive in an ever-changing world.' With the relocation of Years 10–13 to the new Senior School, the original campus will become a dedicated centre for students from Nursery through to Year 9. This transformation allows the school to reimagine their original campus into a vast, state-of-the-art learning environment tailored specifically for younger students, with age-appropriate innovation, care, and creativity at its heart. This will create one of the most advanced Junior and Middle School campuses in the country, a nurturing and inspiring environment where children can develop curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
