Cole Palmer hit back at the critics who had been giving Chelsea 's***' after firing them to Club World Cup glory in New York.
Palmer, who was presented with the Man of the Match award by President Donald Trump, scored the first two goals and set up the third in a surprise 3-0 final victory over Champions League winners Paris St Germain at the MetLife Stadium as Enzo Maresca's men capped an encouraging season in style.
Asked how excited he was by the team Maresca is building at Stamford Bridge, the England international told DAZN: 'He's building something special, something important with a young team. Everyone's talked a lot of s*** about us all season, but I feel like we're going in the right direction.'
Reflecting on the game, Palmer added: 'Obviously it's a great feeling, even better because everyone doubted us before the game. We knew that and to go out there and put a fight on like we did against a great team, yes, it's good.'

Defending champions England cruised into the Euro 2025 quarter-finals with a 6-1 victory over tournament newcomers Wales, who bowed out of the competition in St Gallen.
Georgia Stanway opened the scoring with a 13th-minute penalty before Ella Toone doubled the scoring in the 21st minute before Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo made it 4-0 at the break.
Beth Mead scored a fifth after the restart before Hannah Cain clawed one back with Wales' second-ever goal in a major tournament, but substitute Aggie Beever-Jones completed the scoring for an assured England, who will now face Sweden in Zurich on Thursday.

For seven minutes after the final whistle, Liverpool players and staff stood in front of their supporters at Preston as they chanted Diogo Jota's name.
Sunday's pre-season friendly at Deepdale was originally envisaged as a day to kick-start preparations for Liverpool's Premier League title defence, but it played out as a memorial service for Jota and his brother Andre Silva, 10 days after they died in a car accident in Spain.
On the pitch Liverpool eased to a 3-1 win through goals from Conor Bradley, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo, but thoughts of Jota and Silva remained at the forefront throughout the day.
As Claudia Rose Maguire, wife of former Preston player Sean, sang Liverpool anthem 'You'll Never Walk Alone' before kick-off, Preston captain Ben Whiteman walked the length of the pitch to lay a wreath in front of the visiting fans with the Bill Shankly Kop dominated by banners and scarves bearing Jota's name.

Summer signing Bryan Mbeumo has endorsed Manchester United's move for Aston Villa and England striker Ollie Watkins. United have placed Watkins, 29, at the top of their list of targets should they decide to sign a new striker before the summer transfer window shuts. Ruben Amorim was keen to bring his former Sporting player Viktor Gyokeres to Old Trafford but the Sweden international rejected Manchester United in favour of a £64m move to Arsenal. Watkins has scored 75 goals in 184 Premier League games for Aston Villa, including 35 over the past two seasons. The England regular was the subject of a £40m bid from Arsenal in January and Aston Villa are believed to want around £60m to sell him this summer. Mbeumo played with Watkins while they were both at Brentford and has described United's transfer target as a 'complete striker'. 'Ollie is a complete striker, he can do a lot of things,' Mbeumo told Old Trafford legend Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel. 'He can drop to be available or go in behind. 'That is really good for me as a winger because you can use his pace to fit in there. Plus he can combine as well. It's really good.' Mbeumo completed a £65m move from Brentford earlier this month, signing a five-year contract at the Theatre of Dreams. 'You want to play on the greatest stages in the world. And Old Trafford is one of them,' he said of his move to United, who finished just 15th in the Premier League last season. 'So being able to play here every two weeks is just big. When I spoke properly with the gaffer, he said 'we are people who like winning, and we want to be the best team', and of course that's what we will try to do. 'We had a very friendly and constructive conversation. He explained his project to me, what he wanted to do and I really clicked on that. 'I'm someone who likes a challenge. As a forward, you always want to make an imprint in the game, helping people to score or scoring yourself. 'I always want to be better than I was yesterday. I'm very demanding of myself and try to do my best. I don't like to put limits on myself.' Like Mbeumo, Ferdinand has also endorsed Manchester United's pursuit of Watkins, who has 18 caps for England. 'I'm greedy, I think we need a centre forward,' Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel. Crystal Palace boss reveals transfer concern amid Eberechi Eze speculation
Oliver Glasner is hopeful Eberechi Eze will not leave Crystal Palace for Arsenal this summer, as he took aim at the club's lack of transfer activity. This summer is a very important transfer window for Palace as they look to build upon their FA Cup triumph and record Premier League points tally. So far however, it has been a little underwhelming with back-up goalkeeper Walter Benitez (free) and left-back Borna Sosa (£3million) the only arrivals. Moreover, head coach Glasner faces the prospect of losing several key players before deadline day, most notably England duo Eze and Marc Guehi. Eze is of great interest to Arsenal and, if reports are to believed, would be keen on moving to the club that released him as a 13-year-old. It is said the Gunners don't want to pay his full release clause worth £68m but have not ruled out a move for the attacking midfielder who recorded 25 goal contributions last season. Centre-back and captain Guehi has entered the last year of his contract and is being tracked by Liverpool and Tottenham. Following the FA Cup victory in May, Glasner said he was given assurances by Palace's hierarchy that they would get their transfer business done early but that has not materialised. Palace are currently on a pre-season tour of Austria, where they played Mainz on Tuesday. Speaking to local newspaper Kronen Zeitung, the head coach has now vented his frustration: 'Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far. 'I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year. 'As of now, I have 17 outfield players. I hope we don't lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible.' While last season ended brilliantly for the Eagles, it started terribly with the south London club winless in their opening eight league games and winning just one of their first 13 before their form turned around. In addition to Eze and Guehi, there has also been much interest in striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defensive midfielder Adam Wharton, though the latter wishes to stay at Selhurst Park this coming season. More Trending Palace's transfer activity has been compromised somewhat as they still do not know what European competition they will playing in in 2025/26. The FA Cup victory qualified them for the Europa League but UEFA have controversially demoted them to the Conference League for a breach of Multi-Club Ownership rules. Palace are challenging the demotion at the Court of Arbitration for Sport but may not learn their fate until August 11, just days before the new Premier League campaign begins. Whatever happens, the Eagles will kick-off the new season against Liverpool in the Community Shield on August 10, before taking on Chelsea in their opening league game on August 17. Leah Williamson hints there is still more to come from the Lionesses after Euros victory
An emotional Leah Williamson declared that the Lionesses' journey was far from over as England celebrated their Euro 2025 triumph with an open-top bus parade through central London on Tuesday. Thousands of jubilant fans lined the Mall, culminating in a staged ceremony at the Queen Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace, where the team was met with rapturous applause. Less than 48 hours after securing their European Championship crown by defeating Spain on penalties in the Basel final, the significance of the moment was palpable for the England captain, who fought back tears amidst the revelry. "I'm holding back tears. I've been crying all the way down the Mall. This is unbelievable and it's one of the best things we've ever been a part of so thanks for coming out," Williamson told the adoring crowd. She added: "Everything we do, we do it for us and our team but we do it for the country and young girls. This job never existed 30 or 40 years ago and we're making history every single step. Stay with us, this story is not done yet." The Lionesses' path to retaining their title was marked by remarkable defiance, showcasing a never-say-die attitude throughout the tournament. After an opening defeat to France, England staged dramatic comebacks, trailing 2-0 to Sweden in the quarter-finals, 1-0 to Italy in the semi-finals, and going behind in the showpiece against Spain, only to battle back and secure the trophy they first won three years prior. Reflecting on their challenging route to victory, Williamson told supporters: "There's lots of ways to win a football match and we repeatedly did it the hard way. But you can see how much we care about playing for England and how much we love it – 2022 was a fairy tale but this feels really hard-earned and we're very proud of ourselves so thank you and we hope you are, too. The first game maybe rocked us a little bit but I just think we're special people and we love each other, we've got each others' back on and off the pitch. We had tough moments, nasty things to deal with and still we rise." For England head coach Sarina Wiegman, this marked her third consecutive European Championship crown, having previously led the Netherlands to glory in 2017. "It was chaos. I hoped a little less chaos but they didn't keep their promise to finish things quicker! We just kept having hope and belief and they just showed up when it was really necessary and urgent," Wiegman remarked. She praised the squad's depth and unity: "There is a huge talent pool in this team. In 2022 we had great bonding but I think that made the absolute difference now: everyone was ready to step up and support each other. It was amazing to be a part of." Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton proved instrumental in the final, keeping Spain at bay during the 1-1 draw and the subsequent 3-1 penalty shootout success. Asked about her mindset before the penalties, Hampton stated: "Just do whatever I can for the team – they ran around for 120 minutes and I've got it easy just standing still in my own 18-yard box." She offered an inspiring message to aspiring athletes: "Don't let people tell you what you can and can't do. If you've got a dream and you really believe it, go out and do it. I did it. I got told many times that I'm not good enough and I shouldn't be playing football from the start. Keep doing it and if it makes you happy, go follow that smile." Teenager Michelle Agyemang, named best young player of the tournament, made a significant impact by scoring crucial late equalisers in the quarter-final against Sweden and the semi-final against Italy. The 19-year-old expressed her disbelief: "I don't know what to say. It's surreal, it doesn't seem real seeing people down there. It's crazy to see what we've done and be here today." The experienced Lucy Bronze added: "This moment is unbelievable. We did it three years ago but to do it again and to come back to this is just incredible." When asked to compare the current celebrations to those three years prior, Bronze quipped: "I don't remember."
