Will work to make Rahul Gandhi next PM: Tejashwi Yadav at Voter Adhikar Yatra
Tejashwi's poll pitch for Rahul Gandhi came at their roadshow in Nawada district. Addressing the gathering of supporters, he said, 'Whenever the next Lok Sabha elections are held, we will dislodge the NDA government from power and will work to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister.'
The war cry by the RJD leader and also the unarguable face of Mahagathbandhan in the Bihar elections, was greeted with loud cheering and applause from the crowd.
Tejashwi and Rahul, having launched 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' from Bihar's Sasaram, are set to tour 1300 km in the state to win public support ahead of the Assembly elections. The bonhomie between the two leaders is also apparent, with Tejashwi in the driver's seat while the Congress MP gives him company. In one of the viral pictures from the rally, Tejashwi was seen driving a jeep while Rahul was waving to the crowd from the 'passenger' seat.
While batting for Rahul Gandhi as the next Prime Minister, Tejashwi also blasted the Centre as well as the Nitish government for 'tampering' with the electoral rolls and 'abandoning' the people of Bihar.
He said that many names have been struck off the Bihar electoral rolls, and many people who voted in the Lok Sabha elections have been declared dead in the current draft electoral list.
'BJP is snatching the rights of people to vote in upcoming elections, in connivance with the Election Commission,' Tejashwi said and credited Rahul for 'exposing' the corruption and voter fraud in Bihar's electoral process.
Slamming the Nitish administration, he said the Chief Minister is in an "unconscious state" and unable to lead the state, and therefore it is time to throw out this 'inefficient and ineffective' government.
He said that the Bihar government has no plan or framework for people's welfare, and it is just aping policies proposed by him and the grand alliance.
'Mahagathbandhan promised people of Bihar -- free electricity, enhanced pension, formation of youth commission. They copied our promises and started it just ahead of the elections to fool and cheat you,' he stated.
He added that it is the INDIA bloc that will shape the future of Bihar as it has the 'vision and mission' for the state and also has a 'pool of young leadership' to steer the state.

Army veteran and four-time MP Col. Sonaram Choudhary passes away at 80
Four-time Lok Sabha MP Col. Sonaram Choudhary breathed his last in Delhi on Thursday. He was 80. Choudhary's health had suddenly worsened Wednesday evening while he was in New Delhi and he was rushed to Apollo hospital where he underwent treatment. After his treatment, Choudhary had said that he is doing well. However, his health worsened again a few hours later and he passed away overnight on Thursday. Extending condolences, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said: 'The news of the demise of former MP of Barmer-Jaisalmer Lok Sabha constituency, Colonel Sonaram Chaudhary ji, is extremely saddening. My condolences are with the grief-stricken family. May God grant peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family'. Former CM Ashok Gehlot too termed his death as 'extremely saddening' saying: 'For about 25 years, you made significant contributions to the army, and later to politics and social service. We were also MPs and MLAs together. I pray to God to grant peace to the departed soul and strength and patience to the family in this hour of grief. Om Shanti'. Born in Jaisalmer's Mohangarh in 1945, Choudhary studied at the Multipurpose Higher Secondary School and then graduated in Engineering from M.B.M. Engineering College, Jodhpur. He was also granted a Fellowship by the Institute of Engineers. Choudhary was an active sportsperson during his school and college days, and then later in life, he was also an avid golfer, swimmer and traveller. After completing his education, Choudhary served in the Armed Forces for over 25 years until his premature retirement in 1994. During his time in the Army, he was posted as an engineer in various capacities in Udhampur, New Delhi, Arunachal Pradesh, Bangalore, Jodhpur, etc. He was recipient of three awards, the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) from President of India; Commendation of Chief of Army Staff; and Commendation from Chief of Air Staff. He then switched to politics 'to serve the poor' and contested the 1996 Lok Sabha from Barmer on a Congress ticket, going on to win his first election. He retained this seat in 1998 and 1999 on a Congress ticket, defeating Lokendra Singh Kalvi and Manvendra Singh, respectively. However, he lost the 2004 Lok Sabha election to Manvendra Singh and in 2008, contested the Assembly election from Barmer's Baytu Assembly seat, going on to win. He sprung a surprise in 2014 when the BJP fielded him in Barmer against party stalwart Jaswant Singh. In one of the most closely watched contests of the election, Choudhary defeated Singh and Congress's Harish Chaudhary in a triangular contest. That election would also turn out to be Choudhary's last public office. He contested the 2023 Assembly elections from Barmer's Gudamalani but lost to BJP's K K Vishnoi by over 15,000 votes; Vishnoi was subsequently made the minister of state for industry and commerce, sports and youth affairs, in the incumbent Sharma government. Choudhary's mortal remains were flown to Uttarlai Airbase Thursday afternoon and his body was kept at his Barmer residence for people to pay their respects. His last rites will be performed at his native Mohangarh in Jaisalmer.

‘Rs 6.78 lakh for 14 months': Himachal Congress MLA R S Bali flags ‘misfigures' in his power bill, CM Sukhu says his bill was also shown incorrectly
Congress MLA and chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) R S Bali on Thursday raised concerns in the state Assembly about inflated electricity bill amounts for his official residence in Shimla. During the Zero Hour, Bali pointed out that while the records showed a bill of Rs 6.78 lakh for 14 months, the actual amount for a 32-month period was only Rs 2.98 lakh. The MLA expressed suspicion of a conspiracy regarding the issue and demanded strict action 'against those responsible for providing incorrect information'. Responding to the matter, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed serious concern and stated that even the power bill details for his official residence, 'Oak Over', were incorrect. 'Bali came to me and said that incorrect figures were shown in his bill. I spoke to the officers concerned. They informed me that the bills were provided by the PWD, and not the Electricity Department. For Bali's residence, the actual bill of 14 months was Rs 1.68 lakh, but records showed Rs 6.78 lakh. Similarly, my bill was shown as Rs 3.76 lakh, while the actual amount was Rs 1.43 lakh,' Sukhu told the House. Sukhu further said that the Public Works Department (PWD) must have calculated the arrears of the previous years while calculating the bill for the last two years of the houses of ministers.' Sukhu promised the House that the correct figures would be placed before the Assembly soon and that if the error was deliberate, accountability would be fixed. 'If R S Bali suspects foul play, a probe will be ordered for sure,' the CM said. Taking cognizance, Speaker Kuldeep Pathania said that if the incorrect data was furnished intentionally, action will be taken. On August 19, the government informed the House that nearly Rs 59 lakh had been saved under the electricity surrender subsidy scheme till February 20 this year. It also revealed an expenditure of Rs 17,95,879 on power bills for official residences of cabinet ministers, including the CM and Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, between January 2024 and February 2025. Sukhu also informed that 15 Congress MLAs, including 11 cabinet ministers, the Speaker, and the Deputy Speaker, have surrendered their electricity subsidies this year after February 20. The details of ministers' electricity bills were furnished in response to queries from BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma (Dharamshala) and Congress MLA Kewal Singh Pathania (Shahpur).

Cong deplores Modi govts complete silence on Israels unacceptable actions
Agency: Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 21 (PTI) With Israel set to mobilise reservists for an expanded Gaza operation and approve a settlement project in the West Bank, the Congress on Thursday condemned both these moves and said it 'very strongly deplores" the Modi government's 'complete silence on Israel's unacceptable actions". Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said Israel has begun its military operations to take over Gaza City. Plans for expanding settlements in the occupied West Bank have also been announced, he said. 'The Indian National Congress condemns both these moves. It also very strongly deplores the Modi Government's complete silence on Israel's unacceptable actions," Ramesh said in a post on X. Israel's military said Wednesday that it will call up tens of thousands of reservists and extend the service of others ahead of an expanded military operation it will carry out in Gaza City. Defence Minister Israel Katz approved plans to begin a new phase of operations in some of Gaza's most densely populated areas, the military said. Israel has also reportedly given final approval on Wednesday for a settlement project in the West Bank that would effectively cut the territory in two. The Congress has been raising its voice against Israel's actions in Gaza and expressing solidarity with Palestinians. Earlier this month, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the Israeli state is committing 'genocide" and slammed the Indian government for standing 'silent" as Israel 'unleashes devastation" on the people of Palestine. The Congress general secretary had said the 'Israeli state murdered over 60,000 people, 18,430 of whom were children". 'It has starved hundreds to death including many children and is threatening to starve millions," she had said. Enabling these crimes by silence and inaction is a crime in itself, Priyanka Gandhi had asserted. 'It is shameful that the Indian Government stands silent as Israel unleashes this devastation on the people of Palestine," she had said.
