India's Tata Motors plans to invest up to 350 billion rupees ($4.1 billion or Rs 35,000 crore) over the next five years, aiming to cement its position as the country's top electric vehicle maker amid rising competition and a push to adopt clean cars. The maker of the Nexon and Punch sport utility vehicles will nearly double its portfolio from eight models to 15, launch more EVs and compressed natural gas cars as well as enhance the vehicles' technology features, according to its investor day presentation released on Monday. India, the world's third-largest car market, is planning stricter emission norms starting 2027 and wants EVs to form 30% of all car sales by 2030. Tata Motors did not share its investment plan for the current year to March 2026, but said last month the domestic businesses, including commercial vehicles, would have a capital expenditure of about 80 billion rupees. Intense competition in the combustion engine market has allowed rival Mahindra & Mahindra to overtake Tata. China's MG Motor has also challenged Tata's EV dominance with the "Windsor" model, outselling its products since late last year. Yet, Tata Motors maintained its target of 16% market share by March 2027, aiming to reach 18%-20% by March 2030. Check Offers Jeep India has introduced the new Grand Cherokee Signature Edition at a premium of ₹ 1.54 lakh over the standard ex-showroom price of ₹ 67.50 lakh. Priced at ₹ 69.04 lakh (ex-showroom), the Grand Cherokee Signature Edition features additional accessories which are not available otherwise in the brand's additional accessory list. The added accessories on this new edition of the SUV include a new rear seat entertainment system, a dashboard monitoring camera and motorised side steps. The Grand Cherokee launched in India in 2022, and it competes with other luxury SUVs such as the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Volvo XC90, BMW X5 and others. Jeep Grand Cherokee: Design In terms of design, the Grand Cherokee gets the quintessential Jeep look with the seven-slat front grille, clamshell bonnet and a boxy silhouette. Power goes to all four wheels via the QUADRATAC 4x4 system. Jeep Grand Cherokee: Interior and features The SUV is well-equipped on the feature front with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a digital instrument console, and a panoramic sunroof. There's a separate digital display for the front passenger as well, while the seats are upholstered in perforated Capri leather. The feature list also includes ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, voice command, a 9-speaker audio system, and a head-up display unit. Chandrasekaran said updates will be provided as more verified details a post on social media platform X, Chairman of the Tata-owned airline further said that the airline's immediate priority is supporting affected families and assisting emergency response teams on the ground.'At this moment, our primary focus is on supporting all the affected people and their families,' Chandrasekaran said in a statement issued hours after the incident. 'We are doing everything in our power to assist the emergency response teams at the site and to provide all necessary support and care to those impacted.'Chandrasekaran also informated that updates will be provided as more verified details chairman confirmed the airline's deep sorrow over the incident. 'With profound sorrow I confirm that Air India Flight 171 operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick was involved in a tragic accident today. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the families and loved ones of all those affected by this devastating event.'The aircraft reportedly caught fire shortly after take-off at 1:17 pm, and fire tenders were dispatched to douse the blaze. The full extent of the damage and casualties is yet to be officially confirmed.
