Arroz Caldo, Lugaw, and Champorado Among Top 100 Porridges in the World
Three beloved Filipino rice dishes—arroz caldo, lugaw, and champorado—have been recognized internationally after making it to TasteAtlas' list of the Top 100 Porridges in the World. Arroz caldo ranked second overall. Considered the Filipino version of congee, it is distinct for its ginger-based broth and tender chicken, usually topped with scallions, calamansi, or crispy garlic. Lugaw, the plain yet comforting rice porridge, secured the 10th spot. Traditionally eaten for breakfast or as food for the sick, it is known for its soft and easy-to-digest texture. Meanwhile, champorado landed 19th place. This sweet rice porridge is made from glutinous rice and cocoa, often enjoyed with milk and paired with dried salted fish. Topping the list at number one is Indonesia's bubur ayam, a chicken congee.
