On asking Sumbul Touqeer about what Independence Day means to her, she says,'I think patriotism today sometimes stays on the surface — flags on cars, posts on social media — but real patriotism is about actions. It's about respecting our country every single day through honesty, kindness, and responsibility. Independence Day should be a moment to reflect: Are we living in a way that truly honours the gift of freedom?'
Sumbul brings up an issue close to her heart, the recent government verdict on stray animals, she shares,'I feel the recent verdict taken by the government regarding stray animals is somewhere unfair.
These dogs didn't choose to be on the streets — they are simply surviving where life has placed them. Instead of restrictions or removal, we should be focusing on humane solutions like proper shelter, sterilisation, and community care.
This 15th August, along with celebrating our own freedom, let's also fight for their right to live with dignity and safety.'
