'Sunjay Kapur Is A Third Class Man': When Angry Randhir Kapoor BLASTED Karisma's Ex-Husband
Karisma Kapoor and her former husband, businessman Sunjay Kapur, had a troubled marriage followed by an even turbulent divorce. The duo made several allegations against each other – with Karisma accusing Sunjay of an extramarital affair, and Sunjay claiming that the Zubeidaa actor married him for money. Their divorce proceedings made daily headlines due to the controversial statements they hurled at each other. Amid that, Karisma's father, actor Radhir Kapoor, who is known for being extremely vocal, took on Sunjay in public and called him a 'third class man".
Randhir Kapoor didn't mince words when speaking about his daughter's troubled marriage. Bashing Sunjay Kapoor, he had told Hindustan Times in a throwback interview, 'Sunjay is a third class man. I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He has debauchery in his system and never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull*** to her, and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this."
His reaction came in right after Sunjay claimed that Karisma married him for money. Amid the war of words, Karisma's lawyer, Kranti Sathe, strongly refuted Sunjay's allegations filed in court. 'The allegations against Karisma are all false. We shall soon give a reply, but the onus is on Sunjay to prove these allegations in the court," she stated.
In a petition filed by his lawyers Aman and Priya Hingorani, and quoted by Mumbai Mirror, Sunjay accused Karisma of failing 'as a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother," while also claiming she had an extramarital affair.
When did Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapoor get married?
Karisma and Sunjay tied the knot in 2003 and have two children together — Samaira and Kiaan. Karisma moved to Delhi after their marriage but returned to Mumbai with the children in 2011. The couple initially filed for divorce by mutual consent, but in November the following year, Karisma withdrew the petition, alleging that Sunjay had failed to fulfill the financial commitments outlined in their agreement.
Karisma seeks share in ex-husband Sunjay Kapur's Rs 30,000 crore estate
Sunjay Kapur, who served as the chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away in London on June 12, 2025. Hardly two months after his passing, new developments have surfaced surrounding a staggering Rs 30,000 crore property dispute. A Dainik Jagran report suggested that Karisma may also be exploring a legal claim to a share of his vast estate. Amid the discussion, Sunjay's stepdaughter, his third wife Priya Sachdev's daughter, Safira, dropped 'Chatwal' in favour of 'Safira Kapur'. Observers believe this rebranding is more than symbolic — it could be a strategic move to fortify their standing in the inheritance battle.
