Respect the flag: Dr Zaliha calls for adherence to guidelines in honour of Jalur Gemilang
She said that the Malaysian flag, which serves to instil patriotism among the people, must be given due prominence.
Dr Zaliha also advised the public to fly the flag according to the prescribed guidelines.
'What has happened in the recent weeks serves as a reminder for us to be cautious when raising the Malaysian flag, which must be in line with the recommended guidelines, to safeguard the nation's honour and the symbol of its glory,' she said.
She spoke to reporters after the Madani Brisk Walk 2.0 programme at Taman Saujana, hosted by Putrajaya PKR, here this morning.
Dr Zaliha said the event is in line with the Federal Territories' vision of becoming a CHASE city (Clean, Healthy, Advanced, Safe and Eco-Friendly).
She also distributed the Jalur Gemilang to programme participants and residents in Putrajaya in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations on August 31 and September 16.
This year's celebrations carry the theme 'Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni'. — Bernama

'Do not be afraid to put up the Jalur Gemilang. Don't feel scared. Some may be worried because a small group of individuals tries to stir up sentiment and exploit the situation to intimidate people. 'Do not take action on behalf of the police; the police will investigate. Do not take action on behalf of the Attorney General's Chambers; the Attorney General will prosecute. Do not take action on behalf of the judges,' he said at the opening of the programme to promote cultural arts with the Pantai Dalam community, here today. On Friday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that there would be no more warnings or reprimands; instead, strict action would be taken against anyone who incites ethnic, religious, and cultural tensions in the country. Anwar said that the growing harmful elements, from the issue of the death of 13-year-old student, Zara Qairina Mahathir, allegedly due to bullying, and most recently the upside-down display of Jalur Gemilang, must be stopped immediately. Meanwhile, Fahmi said that relevant parties must not take the law into their own hands, urging them to trust the authorities to carry out their duties. 'The message I want to convey is that during this National Month, fly the Jalur Gemilang proudly and without fear, to remind ourselves, our families and our communities that Malaysia belongs to all of us,' he said. When asked by reporters on calls by some parties to boycott National Day celebrations if Zara Qairina's case remains unsolved, Fahmi said it should not happen because the celebrations are national events, encouraging everyone to celebrate. 'I, too, want justice for Zara; we don't want bullying to become an ongoing issue. The law is already in place, and action is being taken by Bukit Aman, which has taken over the investigation into the Zara Qairina case. An inquest has been requested, and I believe a date will be set soon. We know that the justice process does take time. 'I believe we will obtain justice. Let us not build castles over graves. Zahid urges defence forces to keep it clean, vows tough crackdown on corruption and collusion after recent arrests
PASIR SALAK, Aug 17 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded defence and security forces personnel not to misuse their rank or position to commit unlawful acts. Ahmad Zahid said he supported Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar's stand that there would be no compromise in dealing with abuse of power. 'I agree with his statement that firm action will be taken against collusion involving military officers, not only as informants but also when directly involved,' he told reporters after officiating the Perak Community Development Department (Kemas) Santunan Desa Programme here today. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said abuse of power must be stopped as it could tarnish the image of the country's defence and security forces. 'I hope this serves as a stern reminder to others not to commit similar offences or engage in misconduct with the same intent,' he said. Last Wednesday, Bernama reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had crippled a southern smuggling syndicate with the arrest of 10 people, including three serving and two former senior military officers.
