
Bengaluru weather: City wakes up to light drizzle, IMD predicts rainfall until Wednesday
Bengaluru
woke up to cloudy skies and drizzle across the city with The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting light rain in parts of the city until Wednesday. The later part of the week is expected to have partly cloudy skies with no major spells of rain.
Light drizzles across localities such as HSR Layout, Banaswadi, Jayanagar and Bommanahalli was reported. However, there was no significant rainfall in the past 24 hours.
Heavy rainfall in North Karnataka
After a strong start to the southwest monsoon in May in Karnataka, the pace slowed own. However, a few active pockets in north Karnataka witnessed a return of rain after a week-long lull. These rain spells left a trail of flooding and damage in several districts including Dharwad, Belagavi, Gadag, Koppal, and Raichur.
Streets flooded, homes inundated
A heavy downpour for 40 minutes in Dharwad on Sunday led to streets being waterlogged and homes flooded. Rainwater mixed with sewage water entered houses, forcing residents to spend hours clearing the mess. Traffic came to a halt at several localities and motorists were seen pushing their vehicles through flooded stretches while pedestrians waded through ankle-deep water.

Red alert in North India: Heat wave grips Punjab, temperatures soar to 47°c
Northern India is experiencing an intense heat wave, with Punjab placed under red alert. The weather department warns of temperatures reaching 46 to 47 degrees Celsius in southwestern districts of Punjab and Haryana. The director of the meteorological department in Chandigarh states, 'We need to be a bit careful, and we should avoid exposures to such heats, especially in the day times.' Humidity levels have increased by 25% in the last 48 hours, compounding the discomfort. Relief is expected around 14th, 15th, and 16th with anticipated thunderstorm activity.

Heavy rain hits life in Raibag, Kudchi; bridge over Malaprabha comes under water
Heavy rain lashed some districts in North Karnataka on Thursday, disrupting life in Raibag and Kudchi in Belagavi district. Traffic on the main road in Raibag was shut for a few hours on Wednesday. Water entered low-lying houses in Raibag on Thursday. The Guledgudda-Parvati Bridge over the Malaprabha in Bagalkot district was submerged following heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday. The police diverted traffic away from the bridge. Water entered several houses, a hotel and a petrol pump in Guledgudda town. Residents used buckets to throw out water. Light rainfall is expected to continue till Friday, officers said. Meanwhile, inflow at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Reservoir on the Krishna in Almatti was recorded at 12,641 cusecs. The dam has around 61.6 tmcft of water stored. The outflow was about 2,467 cusecs. Inflow at the Hipparagi barrage was 11,608 cusecs and outflow 5,497 cusecs. The dam has gross storage of 3.14 tmcft against the total storage of 6 tmcft. The Renuka Sagar dam on the Malaprabha has 10.4 tmcft of water against the maximum level of 37 tmcft. The inflow was negligible but outflow was 194 cusecs. Water level in the Raja Lakhamagouda reservoir over the Ghataprabha in Hidkal was 48.98 tmcft against total impounding capacity of 51 tmcft. The dam recorded inflow of 586 cusecs and outflow was 119 cusecs. Red alert The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Friday for Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Shivamogga districts, orange alert for Bagalkot, Belagavi and Shivamogga districts and yellow alert for Vijayanagara, Davangere, Chitradurga, Ballari, Gadag and Dharwad districts.
