Kevin Moses Walker, 41, allegedly broke into the home she shared with her husband, who shot and killed Walker after a violent altercation
Police are still searching for a motive in the slayingThe mother of a rising country music star was stabbed to death inside her Virginia home by an armed intruder, who was then shot and killed by her husband, according to police.
Holly Hatcher, 62, was killed during a violent home invasion in Harrisonburg on Sunday, Aug. 3, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
Suspect Kevin Moses Walker, 41, was killed when Hatcher's husband, Michael Hatcher, 65, fatally shot him in the driveway, according to the release.
The incident was "highly unusual" and "apparently completely random," Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said in a video statement alongside Hatcher's son, country music artist Spencer Hatcher, and Michael Hatcher, per WTVR.
In a post on Instagram, Spencer wrote that due to "a monumental loss in our family," he was canceling three upcoming shows.
'I hope to make these dates up to my fans in the future. I appreciate everyone that has lent their support to me and my loved ones. We ask that everyone please respect our family's privacy at this time.'
Deputies responded to a 911 call just before midnight on Aug. 3 at the Hatcher residence, where they found Michael outside with injuries about his body, according to the press release. Walker was found dead on the driveway.
When deputies entered the home, they found Holly dead of apparent stab wounds.
Authorities contend Walker entered the home armed with a "large" knife and fatally stabbed Holly before getting into an altercation with Michael.
The altercation continued outside the home, where Michael retrieved a gun from his vehicle and fired a single shot at Walker.Hutcheson then shared what the RCSO and Virginia State Police have since learned about Walker's alleged movements before the attack.
Authorities say prior to the attack, Walker had purchased a knife and sleeping at Walmart and later allegedly broken into a store at he Endless Caverns campsite, where he was staying. The store showed signs of having been rammed with a vehicle, though nothing was stolen.
Police were still searching for Walker when Michael Hatcher called 911. The investigation will remain ongoing, Hutcheson said.
Hutcheson said he had known the Hatchers for years and that Holly Hatcher was his oldest son's teacher, noting the 'wonderful influence' she had on her students' lives.
In the meantime, the Hatcher family is still reeling from the violent attack that stole the life of Holly Hatcher.
"There's going to be questions that will never be answered, but all I can tell you is we've cried, we've hurt, and we've hugged, and we have found more love than we have ever known has existed between us, and between you," said an emotional Michael Hatcher in the joint video statement.

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani and agent sued, accused of wrecking $240M Hawaii real estate deal

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani and his agent are being sued by a Hawaii real estate investor and a broker, alleging that both men got them terminated from a $240 million housing development on Hawaii's Hapuna Coast that they brought him in to endorse. The lawsuit was filed in Hawaii Circuit Court on Aug. 8 and obtained by USA TODAY Sports. It says that Ohtani's agent, Nez Balelo, wanted assurances from Kevin J. Hayes Sr. — a developer who has been in business for 40 years — and real estate broker Tomoko Matsumoto before they demanded their business partner, Kingsbarn Realty Capital, a company based in Las Vegas, remove both from the real estate deal. Ohtani is referred to in the lawsuit, in which some portions are redacted, as "Otani." The developers say in the lawsuit that they spent more than a decade trying to work on the deal before signing Ohtani to an endorsement deal in 2023. "This case is about abuse of power. Defendants used threats and baseless legal claims to force a business partner to betray its contractual obligations and strip Plaintiffs of the very project they conceived and built. Defendants must be held accountable for their actions, not shielded by fame or behind-the-scenes agents acting with impunity," the lawsuit says. 'Defendants must be held accountable for their actions, not shielded by fame or behind-the-scenes agents acting with impunity. Plaintiffs bring this suit to expose Defendants' misconduct and to ensure that the rules of contract, fair dealing, and accountability apply equally to all — celebrity or not.' Ohtani and Balelo are accused in the lawsuit of "tortious interference and unjust enrichment, who used their "celebrity leverage to destabilize and ultimately dismantle Plaintiffs' role in the project" and attempted to sabotage a second business venture. Ohtani is listed in a 2024 press release for the Vista at Mauna Kea Resort project, aimed at appealing to Japanese and U.S. high-end buyers, that says he will be the first resident on the property. "To me, Hawaii is a beautiful blend of Pacific Ocean cultures," Ohtani says in the release. "Here, I found my own paradise at Mauna Kea Resort: Two perfect beaches, two amazing golf courses, and so much more. I selected my homesite and am building my winter home here. This is a special place – a place I will soon call home." Ohtani is in his second season with the Dodgers, after signing a 10-year, $700-million contract, helping Los Angeles win the World Series last year. He is a five-time All-Star and three-time Most Valuable Player, who is hitting .284 with 42 home runs and 78 RBI for the NL West leaders in 2025. Jennifer Aniston Opens Up About Matthew Perry: 'This Is Better'

Jennifer Aniston got candid about her friendship with 'Friends' co-star Matthew Perry and his 2023 death, telling Vanity Fair that she's happy he's no longer fighting addiction. 'We did everything we could when we could,' Aniston told Vanity Fair about trying to help Perry. 'But it almost felt like we'd been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight. As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there's a part of me that thinks this is better.' She added, 'I'm glad he's out of that pain.' Perry was found dead in 2023 in his hot tub. The medical examiner said ketamine was the main cause of Perry's death. Perry was using ketamine to treat his depression, but he began seeking more ketamine outside of therapy. Salvador Plasencia, the doctor who supplied Perry with a large amount of ketamine starting about a month before his death, was one of five charged in connection with Perry's passing. Plasencia pleaded guilty last month to four counts of distribution of ketamine. During a 2021 reunion for 'Friends,' Perry admitted he didn't remember filming Seasons 3 through 6 because of his substance abuse. Perry told Diane Sawyer in a 2022 interview that he would go to open houses in Los Angeles and steal pills. 'And I think they thought, 'Well, there's no way that Chandler came in and stole from us,'' Perry said, referencing the name of his character on 'Friends.' He also told Sawyer that he would show up to film 'Friends' 'shaking and crazy hungover,' with Aniston once telling him that the cast could smell alcohol on him. During a 2004 interview with Sawyer, Aniston became emotional thinking about losing Perry. Sawyer asked Aniston what Perry needed to hear. 'That he's all right,' Aniston said. She continued: 'He struggled. 'We didn't know. We weren't equipped to deal with it,' the star said about herself and her fellow 'Friends' castmates. 'Nobody had ever dealt with that. And the idea of even losing him … he's having a road. But he's all right.' Need help with substance use disorder or mental health issues?
