Liverpool will make Newcastle PAY for Hugo Ekitike transfer deal

Newcastle's plans to sign Hugo Ekitike have unravelled in the last few days. The Geordies made an attempt to sign the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, submitting a bid which could not convince the German side to do business.
And while Eddie Howe's side were reeling from the knock-back, Liverpool swooped in. Ekitike now appears Anfield-bound - and his arrival will take the Reds' spending to well over £250m this summer.

Newcastle have no choice but to move on to other targets and according to one report in Germany, they have got a Liverpool player in their sights.
The Merseysiders have managed to claw back plenty of money in sales so far this window - with Jarell Quansah, Caoimhin Kelleher, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Nat Phillips all departing.
Nunez stuck in transfer limbo
But more outgoings will be required in order to finance a blockbuster deal for Ekitike - and this is where Newcastle's interest in Darwin Nunez could come in very handy indeed.
Having seen a move to Napoli fall apart - due to the Italian champions' reluctance to meet Liverpool's asking price - 26-year-old Darwin was stuck in transfer limbo.
Teams in Saudi Arabia are willing to meet his valuation - said to be around £70m - but the player's first choice had been initially to remain in Europe.
And now BILD is reporting that Newcastle are ready to move on to Darwin to supplement their striking options.
Newcastle have got Darwin Nunez on their radar
Of course Alexander Isak remains the Magpies' first choice, but the reason behind a move for Ekitike was reportedly to give cover and competition to the Swede - as well as field the duo up top together.
'Newcastle have dropped out of the poker game and already have two other attackers on their radar: Victor Osimhen and Darwin Nunez,' the report reads.
'It became increasingly clear that the Frenchman was not convinced about a move to Newcastle.
'Experts were all the more surprised that Newcastle had already submitted an initial official offer (€80 million) to Frankfurt.
'It's clear that the Magpies wanted to put significant pressure on Ekitiké, hoping for a breakthrough.'

Chivu Confident Ahead Of New Inter Milan Season: ‘This Group Has Proven That It Can Overcome Any Difficulties'

Cristian Chivu believes that this Inter Milan group has 'proven it can overcome any difficulties.' The new Nerazzurri coach gave his thoughts in a press conference ahead of the start of the new season, as reported by FCInterNews. Cristian Chivu is just a few weeks from the start of his first season as Inter Milan coach. The Romanian took over from Simone Inzaghi at the start of June after the latter's decision to step down in order to earn big at Al-Hilal. Chivu has already coached a few matches at the Club World Cup. But now, he will have a full preseason as well as several new signings in which to really put his stamp on the team. It won't be easy for Chivu. This Inter team endured the double bitter blow of losing out on the Serie A title by one point on the final day of last season, followed by a crushing 5-0 defeat at the hands of PSG in the Champions League final. Then, the Club World Cup wasn't much better. After some promising signs in the group stage, Inter suffered eliminating from the round of sixteen by Fluminense. And that brought some tensions in the team to the surface. After the match, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez all but called out Hakan Calhanoglu over recent transfer rumours. Martinez spoke passionately, imploring 'whoever wants to leave, leave.' The outburst from the captain showed the real scale of Chivu's task getting this Inter team ready for the new season. This group has already proven that they can do that, that they can even overcome the worst difficulties.' 'Because that's the only way we can move forward,' Chivu said. 'And fight for titles.' 'We never look back, or look to the past,' said the new Inter coach of how the team can put the end of last campaign behind them. 'We're not looking for revenge. But we're focusing on the present, to build the future.' Chivu noted that 'we've inherited a situation built over several years, in which Inter has always been at the top, whether we win titles or not.' 'We'll do our best,' the Romanian promised. 'Giving our all to achieve our goals.' Then, the Inter coach noted that 'in words everything is simple.' 'But in reality, everything is harder. But this group of players has shown over time that they're united, and have a desire to make an impact.' Chivu stressed that Inter want to 'remain at the top of Italian, European, and world football.' 'These are numbers,' said the coach. 'But principles are what matter. And our intention is to be aggressive, vertical, and balance.' 'And to achieve results through the moments in a match, and in a season,' added the new Nerazzurri coach. Chivu spoke about having 'the right spirit to maintain and remain a competitive team.' 'That's our goal,' the coach made clear. 'The expectations have been the same since this team was founded,' he went on. 'To always be competitive, to establish an identity, and to maintain loyalty and passion to achieve our goals.' 'I believe that what this group has achieved in the last few years is a testament to what we've created so far,' the coach continued. 'A winning team that reaches two Champions League finals and one Europa League final is proof of a solid group.' Chivu Declares 'We Don't Need To Copy Anyone' PASADENA, CALIFORNIA – JUNE 17: Cristian Chivu, Head Coach of FC Internazionale Milano, reacts following the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 group E match between CF Monterrey and FC Internazionale Milano at Rose Bowl Stadium on June 17, 2025 in Pasadena, California. (Photo by) Meanwhile, Chivu stated that 'we don't need to copy anyone.' 'Nor make any slogans,' he added. 'We just want to stay competitive.' However, the coach did add that 'this will be an Inter that tries to be more unpredictable and hybrid.' 'And they're capable of it,' Chivu was confident. 'We can adapt to football matches.' And Chivu also spoke about how Inter managed to digest the disappointing end of last season. 'We were in Charlotte,' recalled the coach. 'There was a discussion about things that happened but weren't said.' 'These things are a part of every dressing room,' he added. 'And part of a group that has a strong desire to win.' 'The group needs a bit of clarity now and then,' he concluded.

Madden 26: Ravens star QB Lamar Jackson headlines the '99 Overall Club'

The Ravens are loaded on offense, with two or three players who can legitimately be ranked as the best at their position. Madden NFL 26 will be released on August 14, and EA Sports has started the rollout, revealing the seven players who made the coveted '99 Overall Club. Baltimore was well represented with MVP candidate and star quarterback Lamar Jackson making the list. Last season, the 28-year-old Jackson set career highs in touchdown passes (41), passing yards (4,172), and quarterback rating (119.6) while throwing just four interceptions. Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken is entering his third season coaching Jackson and expects the quarterback's growth to continue and reach another level as he enters the prime of his career.
