From 60 pages to 3000: UAE corporate tax is growing up — but still cooler than global chaos

Khaleej Times26-05-2025

Let's rewind to 2022.
UAE introduced its first-ever federal corporate tax law. A crisp 60-pager. Yes, just sixty pages. Simple, elegant, and shockingly readable (especially by tax standards). It was like the macchiato of tax laws — strong, short, and smooth.
Fast forward to 2025.
The law now spans over 3,000 pages regulations, decisions, clarifications, and guides. It's gone from an espresso shot to a 10-layered frappuccino with oat milk foam and caramel drizzle.
But here's the twist: despite the growth, UAE's tax regime remains one of the most straightforward and strategic globally.
While countries debate if a biscuit is a cake or a cookie (yes, that's a real VAT dispute in the UK), in the UAE, cookie or cake — it's all dessert, all the same tax treatment.
Global tax game: Complexity vs. clarity
Across the world, tax systems are riddled with complexities BEPS 2.0, Pillar Two, substance tests, CFC rules, shadow taxes on shadows of structures. Tax advisors are forced to play 4D chess with constantly moving rules. But UAE? UAE decided to play beach volleyball instead.
Simple rules, strong foundation, sunny structures.
Billionaire magnet: Refreshing like a coconut drink
From Silicon Valley founders to hedge fund managers in Mayfair, the wealthy are moving operations (and themselves) to the UAE. Why? Because it's not just tax-friendly. It's tax-refreshing like a coconut drink served with a side of full ownership, zero tax on capital gains, robust foundations, and no estate tax nightmares.
You don't need to create three layers of Luxembourg holding companies just to sleep at night. In the UAE, one well-set foundation, a holding company, and good structuring advice is all it takes to protect legacy and peace of mind.
Evolving — but in the right direction
Yes, UAE tax law is expanding. Yes, 3,000 pages is no joke.
But each page is built to clarify, not complicate. To enable, not entangle. It's a tax system that is maturing with the economy supporting startups, enabling family offices, and inviting global capital with open arms and clear laws. In a world where tax rules are becoming labyrinths, UAE offers a refreshingly direct path with no 'tax traps,' just coconut trees.
Final thought
If the global tax game is a buffet of confusion, the UAE serves a focused à la carte menu. You know what you're ordering. You know what you're paying. And you can still enjoy the view of the Burj Khalifa while sipping on that coconut.

EXCLUSIVE: RAK's Falcon Brews secures term loan from Indian bank for $65mln brewery and bottling project

Falcon Brews, the GCC's first licensed brewery and spirits blending and bottling project, has secured a $25 million term loan facility with the Middle East subsidiary of an international Indian bank, a senior company official confirmed to Zawya Projects. Refuting market rumours about the project being on hold, the company official, who did not wish to be named, disclosed that the loan has been structured against India-based assets as collateral. The $65 million project, located in Ras Al Khaimah, is being developed in two phases with approximately $45 million allocated to the brewery and $20 million to the spirits bottling plant. 'We are taking a loan only for Phase 1, which will cost us $35 million and we have secured $25 million from the bank as part of our 70:30 debt equity model,' he said. The official said disbursements to contractors and suppliers will be milestone-based, with the remaining facility potentially converted into working capital upon project completion. As first reported by Zawya Projects in May 2024, Falcon's funding structure involves 30 percent promoter equity and 70 percent debt. The company has held discussions with both UAE-based and international banks as well as a few global brewers to finance the debt portion. Construction work starts 'We started construction on the project as planned but experienced delays due to a gas pipeline running through the plot. That issue has been sorted,' he said, adding that construction will start simultaneously on both the plants. He said the spirits bottling line, initially slated for completion by end-2025, is now expected to be ready by January 2026, while the brewery is targeted for completion by end-2026. 'We have also finalised the MoU with the brewery and plan to sign the final agreement by end July,' the official said. The official said that the project has received considerable interest from Indian investors as well as non-resident Indian investors of African-origin based in UAE. 'Maybe, three years down the line, we may consider them in case of early closure of our loan,' he said. 'We will then look at the funding for Phase 2 and may not take a loan at that time. Depending on our financial position, we could look at bringing in an equity investor at that time." The May 2024 Zawya Projects report had also noted that the promoters are targeting regional and African markets through strategic manufacturing partnerships. According to a report by the UAE's state news agency WAM in April 2025, the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which came into effect on 1 May 2022, has significantly boosted investment and trade flows between the two countries. It stated that India ranked as the UAE's second-largest foreign investor, accounting for a 6.3 percent share of total FDI as of the end of 2022. (Reporting by Sona Nambiar; Editing by Anoop Menon)

Align Technology advances digital orthodontics in the Middle East with Invisalign® Roadshow

Invisalign® Roadshow held from 18–22 June 2025 delivered full-day clinical education programs for Invisalign® trained doctors in Riyadh and Dubai. Sessions focused on enhancing complex case planning with the Invisalign® system and introducing practical applications of the Invisalign® Palatal Expander System and the Invisalign® System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks for growing patients. Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Align Technology, a global medical device company that designs and manufactures the Invisalign® System, iTero™ intraoral scanners, and exocad™ CAD/CAM software for orthodontic and restorative dentistry, has successfully concluded its Invisalign® Roadshow in the Gulf region. Held from 18 to 22 June in Riyadh and Dubai, the expert-led master classes enhanced doctors' clinical proficiency in treating complex cases with the Invisalign® system. The sessions also introduced practical applications for treating growing patients using new regionally available innovations—including the Invisalign® Palatal Expander System and the Invisalign® System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks. Led by Dr. Regina Blevins, Align Global Faculty speaker and adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, the sessions focused on how to diagnose and treat 3D malocclusions—specifically pitch, yaw, and roll—using the Invisalign system, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) imaging, and ClinCheck® software. 'The Invisalign Roadshow reflects Align's ongoing commitment to raising the standard of orthodontic care across the Middle East,' said Angelo Maura, General Manager of Align Technology, Middle East and Africa. 'By combining advanced clinical education with access to regionally available innovations through the Align Digital Platform, we are empowering doctors to treat complex cases with greater precision, streamline their workflows, and meet the evolving needs of patients across the region.' Translating Digital Techniques into Everyday Practice The master class sessions equipped doctors with the tools to analyse skeletal discrepancies, design precise treatment plans for both transverse and vertical cases, and apply refinement strategies to achieve long-term stability. With temporary anchorage devices (TADs) integrated into planning discussions, doctors left with enhanced clinical confidence in managing asymmetries digitally—especially in cases that have traditionally been approached with analogue methods. They were also structured to go beyond technical delivery, fostering a deeper understanding of how to apply complex diagnostic tools in real-world GCC practice settings. Doctors engaged in active discussion on managing skeletal asymmetries and occlusal cants, with particular focus on planning strategies that support long-term case stability. The interactive format encouraged peer exchange, practical troubleshooting, and case-specific dialogue. Feedback from participants in Riyadh and Dubai reflected a strong appetite for specialised, regionally delivered clinical education. Many highlighted the value of gaining hands-on experience in digital case planning and the opportunity to contextualise advanced techniques for their patient populations. Expanding Treatment Possibilities for Growing Patients In addition to its focus on complex case planning, the roadshow also highlighted the recent regional availability of two important innovations designed to support growing patients: the Invisalign Palatal Expander System and the Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks. The Invisalign Palatal Expander System is a modern, direct 3D-printed orthodontic appliance developed using Align's proprietary and patented technology. Indicated for the orthodontic treatment of malocclusion, it is used for the rapid expansion and subsequent holding of skeletal and/or dental narrow maxilla (upper jaw, dental arch and teeth, palate) with primary, mixed or permanent dentition in children and adolescents. Based on iTero intraoral scanner ® data, the removable appliance offers a hygienic, comfortable, and screw-free alternative to traditional expanders. The Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks is the first clear aligner solution to integrate solid occlusal blocks for predictable mandibular advancement. Designed for growing patients aged 10–16, it enables simultaneous dental alignment and mandibular positioning—particularly in Class II deep bite cases—while improving fit, durability, and overall treatment efficiency. Both innovations are now available to Invisalign providers across the GCC and are fully integrated into the Align Digital Platform, Align's unique combination of software, systems, and services designed to provide a seamless experience and workflow that integrates and connects all users – doctors, labs, patients, and consumers. It offers a single ecosystem for combined visual orthodontic and restorative treatment planning, including facial lines, tooth mass analysis, and in-face visualizations, enabling seamless digital planning and earlier intervention within the same streamlined workflow doctors use for all Invisalign treatments. As the demand for digital orthodontic solutions continues to rise across the GCC, Align Technology remains focused on investing in practitioner education and supporting treatment outcomes through its comprehensive digital platform. The roadshow events form part of a broader strategy to bring best-in-class tools, technologies, and training to orthodontists across the region. About Align Technology, Inc. Research shows 97% of IT leaders in the UAE plan to boost Networking Budget Share

Cisco revealed the UAE Findings of its Global Networking Research News summary: Architectural shift already underway: 98% of IT leaders in the UAE see modernized networks as critical to deploying AI, IoT, and cloud. Secure networking is critical: 97% believe an improved network will enhance their cybersecurity posture. Modern networks unlock business value: 96% say improved infrastructure will drive revenue. Dubai, UAE: Ahead of Cisco's flagship Event for the Gulf region 'Cisco Connect' for customers and partners, the company today released the UAE findings of its global networking study revealing a major architectural shift underway across enterprise networks. As AI assistants, agents, and data-driven workloads reshape how work gets done, they're creating faster, more dynamic, more latency-sensitive, and more complex network traffic. Combined with the ubiquity of connected devices, 24/7 uptime demands, and intensifying security threats, these shifts are driving infrastructure to adapt and evolve. The result: IT leaders are changing how they think about the network: what it is, what it enables, and how it protects the organization. The network they build today will decide the business they become tomorrow. Six signals that an architectural shift is underway: The network has become a strategic priority: 98% say a modernized network is critical to rolling out AI, IoT, and cloud. 97% of IT leaders plan to increase the share of their overall IT budget allocated to networking. Secure networking is mission critical: 99% say secure networking is important to their operations and growth; 68% say it's critical. 97% believe an improved network will enhance their cybersecurity posture. AI intensifies demand for resilient networks: 99% say a resilient network is critical, at a time when 78% faced major outages – driven largely by congestion, cyberattacks, and misconfigurations – adding up to $160B globally from just one severe disruption per business, per year. Leaders look to AI to grow revenue: 55% say a modernized network's greatest impact on revenue will come from deploying AI tools that automate and tailor customer journeys – enabling faster, more personalized experiences that can strengthen loyalty and drive growth. AI is reshaping computing infrastructure: 67% say their data centres can't yet meet today's AI demands, and 92% plan to expand capacity – on-prem, in the cloud, or both. Leaders want to make networks smarter: 99% say autonomous, AI-powered networks are essential to future growth – yet only 47% have deployed the intelligent capabilities – like segmentation, visibility, and control – to make their network adaptive. Abdelilah Nejjari, the Managing Director for the Gulf and Levant at Cisco, commented: "Our networking research clearly demonstrates that modernizing networks is no longer just an IT issue - it's a strategic imperative for organizations aiming to thrive in the AI era. Networks are the backbone of digital transformation, enabling seamless connectivity, and empowering businesses to adapt, scale, and thrive in an ever-evolving digital landscape.'
