Kochanowicz limits Dodgers, and Angels turn 5 double plays in 6-2 win in Freeway Series opener

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Jack Kochanowicz tossed one-run ball over 6 2/3 innings, Yoan Moncada hit a two-run homer and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-2 in the Freeway Series opener Friday night.
The last-place Angels led 2-0 on Moncada's homer on his first pitch from Dustin May in the first inning.
May hit Matthew Lugo and Tim Anderson back-to-back before Zach Neto's two-run double to left extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth.
Kochanowicz (3-5) allowed one run, struck out five and walked four in winning back-to-back starts for the first time this season.
The Dodgers closed to 4-2 on Shohei Ohtani's 16th homer off Ryan Zeferjahn in the eighth. Max Muncy's RBI double provided their first run.
The Angels answered with Nolan Schanuel's two-run single that made it 6-2 in the ninth.

(AP) — Former U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark said he 'deeply regrets' the damage done to the century-old locker he was using at Oakmont during the U.S. Open, his second act of frustration that caused damage at a major this year. But he has only one top-10 finish in the last nine months and has dropped to No. 27 in the world ranking and No. 80 in the FedEx Cup. At the PGA Championship, he hit his drive to the right and slung his driver behind him, damaging a sign on the tee. The logo was that of one of his corporate sponsors. Clark posted an apology for that incident on social media. 'As professionals, we are expected to remain professional even when frustrated and I unfortunately let my emotions get the best of me. My actions were uncalled for and completely inappropriate, making it clear that I have things I need to work on,' Clark said last month. "I promise to better the way I handle my frustrations on the course going forward, and hope you all can forgive me in due time.' Clark is No. 23 in the Ryder Cup standings, with six players getting automatic spots. Associated Press BERLIN (AP) — Newly crowned French Open champion Coco Gauff was stunned on her return to action Thursday, losing to Chinese qualifier Wang Xinyu 6-3, 6-3 at the Berlin Open. The second-ranked Gauff, who won at Roland-Garros less than two weeks ago for her second Grand Slam title, amassed 25 unforced errors and seven double faults in her loss to Wang. Gauff had a bye to the second round at the grass-court tournament, a warmup for Wimbledon. 'It was a tough one today but happy to be back on court,' Gauff wrote on her social media accounts. Los Angeles Dodgers say they denied ICE access to Dodger Stadium parking lots
ICE agents drove to Dodger Stadium's parking entrances in an apparent effort to use the vast lots as a staging area, but did not gain entry to the venerable Los Angeles ballpark, the Dodgers said in a statement Thursday. Shortly after 10 a.m. PDT, a caravan of vans and other vehicles appeared at multiple parking lot entry points, according to social media posts. An overhead view of the caravan, captured by Fox 11 Los Angeles, indicated the presence of Department of Homeland Security officers. In the ensuing hours, a small group of protestors arrived at Gate E, chanting at ICE officers outside the stadium gates. Eventually, Los Angeles Police Department officers arrived. 'This morning, ICE agents came to Dodger Stadium and requested permission to access the parking lots. They were denied entry to the grounds by the organization,' the Dodgers said in a statement. 'Tonight's game will be played as scheduled.' A message with ICE's media relations office was not immediately returned.
