From Gucci assistant to global icon
Their love story began in a way that seems straight out of a movie. According to People, Georgina worked as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in Madrid in 2016 when she first met the Portuguese footballer.
As she recounted in her hit Netflix reality series, I Am Georgina, she was stunned when Ronaldo began picking her up from work in flashy cars like his Bugatti. The couple made their relationship public in January 2017, and since then, Rodríguez has gone from living a quiet life to one of global prominence.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Spain, Rodríguez has established herself as a model, entrepreneur, and social media influencer. With 68.5 million followers on Instagram, her reach is immense, and her Netflix series has been a key factor in her rise.
The show, which premiered in January 2022 and has run for three seasons, offers an intimate look at her life, chronicling her journey from humble beginnings to a powerhouse in her own right. It also gave people a glimpse into her resilience, particularly after the tragic loss of her twin son, Ángel, in 2022.

Family is a significant part of their bond. Together, they are raising five children. The eldest is Cristiano Jr, 15, Ronaldo's son from a previous relationship. The family also includes twins Eva Maria and Mateo, 8, born via surrogacy; Alana Martina, 7, the couple's first biological child; and Bella, 3. Bella's twin brother, Ángel, tragically died during childbirth, a profound loss the couple has shared openly with the world.
Rodríguez has described this period as both 'the best and worst moment of my life,' in past interviews praising Ronaldo's unwavering support as they navigated the grief together.
A rock for Rodríguez
For years, the couple faced unrelenting engagement rumours. Georgina appeared at media events wearing stunning diamond rings, and Ronaldo's own teasing comments about waiting for the 'right click' to propose didn't help the situation. The rumours reached a fever pitch in July 2024 when Ronaldo called her 'his wife' in an Instagram ad.
Her engagement ring is a magnificent, jaw-dropping oval-shaped diamond. While the exact cost remains a closely guarded secret, experts estimate its value could be several hundred thousand dollars.
Public reaction to the engagement has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans celebrating a milestone they have long awaited after years of following the couple's story marked by love, loss, and an endearing familial bond.

George Michael would have approved of Taylor Swift tribute

George Michael's former partner believes the late singer would have been proud of Taylor Swift's upcoming tribute. The Bad Blood hitmaker announced her long-awaited new album, The Life of a Showgirl, earlier this week and among the tracks is a song called Father Figure, which will feature the melody from George's 1987 track of the same name. Kenny Goss - who was in a relationship with George from 1996 to 2009 - told TMZ the Careless Whisper singer would have totally approved of Taylor's song and while he never met the 35-year-old pop star before his death in 2016, the art dealer is pretty sure his former partner would have been a fan and appreciated someone of her standing taking an interest in his work. Kenny himself is a big fan of Taylor's music and though he had no idea she planned to interpolate Father Figure on her new album, it was a welcome surprise. Taylor announced The Life of a Showgirl earlier this week and has explained the prominent use of the colour orange in the artwork and promotional teasers for the record. During an appearance on the New Heights podcast with her boyfriend Travis Kelce and his brother Jason Kelce, she said: "I've just always liked it ... It feels like energetically how my life has felt - and this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during [The Eras Tour], which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant." The Karma singer also talked about the album's artwork, which shows her wearing a jewelled costume under the water in a bath and confessed the picture represents her at the end of a concert night because she always ends with a soak in the tub. She explained: "This represents the end of my night ... My show days are the same every single day, I just have a different city. And my day ends with me in a bathtub - not usually in a bedazzled dress ... [The album represents] the life beyond the show ... I would say it's everything that was going on behind the curtain." The Life of a Showgirl will be released on 3 October.

Two Children's Literature Giants on World War II Rites of Passage

If you think there's nothing new to say about World War II, these two works by children's literature giants — and immigrants to America — will prove you wrong. The Caldecott medalist Uri Shulevitz's final book, following his death at age 89 in February, is a riveting companion to his award-winning memoir 'Chance: Escape From the Holocaust' (2020), and a story that stands on its own. 'When I was little,' begins THE SKY WAS MY BLANKET: A Young Man's Journey Across Wartime Europe (Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 160 pp., $19.99, ages 10 and up), 'I couldn't fall asleep unless I had a piece of bread under my pillow. Why? you may ask. Because I was born in 1915.' Yehiel Szulewicz, the youngest of four boys growing up in a time of hunger in a devoutly religious Jewish home in Żyrardów, Poland, chafes at his father's strictness. 'When you've got nothing,' he thinks, 'use what you've got.' Wit and deception get him free entry to the local cinema and even a trip to Warsaw. But he longs to see more of the world — and so, at age 15, he leaves home, not realizing he will never see his parents again. Yehiel shaves his sidelocks but still embraces his Jewish identity. As he crosses Europe by foot and train, he finds food, work and mentors in Jewish communities in Czechoslovakia, Vienna and Italy. When the Nazis gain power, he moves to Paris, then Spain, where he joins a Polish brigade fighting Franco's fascism. From there he ends up imprisoned in a work camp in France. World War II has begun. Yehiel escapes and joins a Jewish branch of the French Resistance. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
