ADSB and ASRY aim to collaborate on developing naval auxiliary vessels, port crafts
Abu Dhabi, UAE – EDGE Group entity Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) the region's leader in the design, construction, repair, maintenance, refit and conversion of naval and commercial vessels, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard (ASRY), the Arabian Gulf's leading maritime repair and fabrication facility based in Bahrain. The two entities will work together to build new naval auxiliary vessels and port crafts and constitute a joint committee to assess the feasibility of each project.
Witnessed by Shaikh Mohamed bin Rashed AlKhalifa, Deputy CEO of ASRY, Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director & CEO of EDGE, and Omar Al Zaabi, President – Trading & Mission Support, EDGE, the MoU was signed by David Massey, CEO of ADSB and Dr Ahmed Al Abri, CEO of ASRY at the Naval Defence & Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) Abu Dhabi 2025, underway at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) until 21 February.
Speaking on the partnership, David Massey said: 'This MoU marks a significant step in strengthening collaboration within the region's maritime industry. By combining ADSB's expertise in naval vessel design and construction with ASRY's renowned repair and maintenance capabilities, we aim to deliver world-class solutions to meet the evolving needs of our customers.'
Dr Ahmed Al Abri said: 'We are delighted to partner with ADSB, a leader in the production of naval and commercial vessels. This agreement reflects our shared vision to leverage our complementary strengths to explore new opportunities in naval auxiliary vessels and port craft projects, further advancing the sovereign capabilities of the region's maritime sector.'

EDGE signs Dhs9 billion naval contract with Kuwait ministry
EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups, has announced the signing of a major Dhs9 billion ($2.45 billion) defence contract with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence for the supply of FALAJ3 62-metre missile boats. This contract marks the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and ranks among the highest-value naval export deals globally. As the prime contractor, EDGE will lead the programme which includes the design, construction, trials, and delivery of the vessels, in addition to Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and In-Service Support (ISS). EDGE will also provide the ammunition for the vessels, further demonstrating its end-to-end capability offering. Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), EDGE Group's naval arm and the UAE's leading shipbuilder, has been selected as the build subcontractor for the programme. In March this year, EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups, and CMN NAVAL, a world-renowned naval shipbuilding group specialising in the design, engineering, and construction of superior naval and commercial vessels, and mega yachts, have formally agreed to create a new Abu Dhabi-based shipbuilding joint venture (JV) named AD NAVAL (ADN). Leveraging an existing order pipeline worth approximately EUR 7 billion, the JV will bring together both companies under an exclusivity agreement on the segment of high value small to mid-size naval vessels including Corvettes, Offshore Patrol Vehicles (OPVs), High-speed Interceptors, Trimarans, and Landing Craft. The move will see EDGE significantly expand the scope of its capabilities in the naval domain. EDGE, holding a 51 percent stake in the new company, will collaborate with CMN NAVAL on sales, commercial activities, and engineering. It will also establish a design bureau which will assume intellectual property rights for all future designs. The JV will grant EDGE access to CMN NAVAL's global supply chain and its advanced Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) system and software, enhancing cost efficiency and operational performance through predictive and preventative maintenance, as well as the provision and management of all spare parts. The scope of the JV will also explore Combat Systems Integration (CSI) of EDGE's advanced autonomous air and sea, and smart weapons solutions onto vessels built by the new company. The announcement comes closely on the heels of an initial partnership agreement signed at IDEX 2025 last month in Abu Dhabi, where both parties laid the foundations for collaboration across multiple domains, including the development of cutting-edge naval platforms, system integration, maintenance, and commercial initiatives, aiming to set new benchmarks in naval innovation, leveraging next-generation technologies such as AI-driven autonomous systems, advanced combat solutions, and modular ship designs. Kuwait and EDGE Ink Record-Breaking Naval Defence Deal
Arabian Post Staff -Dubai EDGE, the United Arab Emirates' premier defence technology conglomerate, has secured a landmark AED 9 billion contract with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence for the supply of eight FALAJ-3 class missile boats. This agreement represents the largest naval shipbuilding export in the Middle East and ranks among the highest-value naval export deals globally. Under the terms of the contract, EDGE will serve as the prime contractor, overseeing the design, construction, trials, and delivery of the 62-metre vessels. The agreement also encompasses integrated logistics support and in-service support, with EDGE providing ammunition for the ships. The ministry highlighted that the contract aligns with Kuwait's strategic objectives to bolster its naval capabilities and ensure the security of its territorial waters. The FALAJ-3 class has also been adopted by the UAE Navy, with the first vessel, ALTAF, commissioned into service in February 2025. This operational deployment underscores the vessel's proven capability and performance in regional waters. The signing ceremony was attended by Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Meshal Mubarak Al Sabah, Undersecretary of the Kuwait Ministry of Defence; Dr. Matar Al Neyadi, UAE Ambassador to Kuwait; Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE; and Omar Al Zaabi, President of Trading and Mission Support at EDGE. This contract is not the first collaboration between EDGE and Kuwait. Previously, EDGE subsidiary ADSB delivered eight landing craft to Kuwait and provided maintenance, repair, and overhaul services to the Kuwaiti Coast Guard. The current agreement further solidifies the defence partnership between the two nations and demonstrates EDGE's commitment to delivering comprehensive defence solutions. The FALAJ-3 class vessels are based on the Fearless-class ships originally designed by Singapore's ST Engineering for the Republic of Singapore Navy. EDGE has adapted and enhanced these designs to meet the specific needs of regional clients, offering a versatile platform capable of operating in both littoral and blue waters. The vessels can be equipped with a range of weapons, including missiles, rockets, and medium-calibre guns, providing robust defensive capabilities against various threats.
