Boy, 4, dies after fall from 8th floor flat
South Klang deputy police chief Superintendent Kamal Ariffin Aman Shah, who confirmed the death, said police received a call around 8am from a member of the public reporting that a child had fallen from a building in the area.
"At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at work, while the mother had stepped out to send their second child to the babysitter.
"It is believed the victim fell from the window of their 8th floor flat," he said in a statement today.
Kamal Ariffin added that the victim was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead during treatment at 9am.
"A post-mortem revealed that the child sustained head injuries consistent with a fall from height.
"The South Klang police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department has opened an investigation paper under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000.
"We ask anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang Police Headquarters at 03-33762222 to assist in the investigation," the statement read.
Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing chaos at the scene as residents gathered around the area.
In the footage, a man can be heard sharing brief details about what had happened.

Bribery cases of two Sabah assemblymen, businessman fixed for Sept 23
KOTA KINABALU: The bribery cases against two Sabah assemblymen and a businessman linked to mineral prospecting licences will be mentioned again on Sept 23. Sessions Court judge Jason Juga fixed the pre-trial case management (PTCM) for the accused at the request of the prosecution. The accused are Tanjung Batu assemblyman Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy, Sindumin assemblyman Datuk Dr Yusof @ Josree Yacob, and businessman Datuk Tei Jiann Cheing, also known as Albert Tei. The prosecution said it had served some documents to the defence counsel under Section 51A of the Criminal Procedure Code. However, it asked for more time to serve additional documents, including forensic reports, telecommunications data, and verification from the Immigration Department. On June 30, the three men pleaded not guilty to their respective charges. Andi, who is also Sabah's Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Assistant Minister, and Dr Yusof were each charged with accepting bribes from Tei in connection with separate licence applications. Tei was charged with two counts of giving bribes to the assemblymen. Andi, 44, is accused of receiving RM150,000 from Tei on May 12 last year at his residence in Jalan Pantai, Sembulan. The money was allegedly an inducement for processing Sinaran Hayat Sdn Bhd's prospecting licence application. Yusof, 69, is accused of accepting RM200,000 from Tei on March 6 last year at the Rooftop Bar & Grill, Hilton Hotel, Kota Kinabalu. The money was allegedly to facilitate Nusa Kini Sdn Bhd's licence application. Both Andi and Yusof face charges under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, while Tei, 37, was charged under Section 16(b)(A). All offences are punishable under Section 24(1) of the same Act, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of at least five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher. Andi and Yusof appeared in court, while Tei attended the proceedings via Zoom. Their respective bail was extended.

Court upholds RM1.04mil award against lift contractor over faulty work at Johor school
PUTRAJAYA: A lift contractor has failed in its bid to overturn a High Court decision ordering it to pay RM1,045,294.80 in damages to an international school over delayed and defective lift works at its Johor Baru campus. A three-member Court of Appeal bench, chaired by Datuk Supang Lian, unanimously dismissed MS Elevators Engineering Sdn Bhd's appeal, finding no merit in its challenge against the earlier decision in favour of Fairview International School Nusajaya Sdn Bhd. The other members of the bench were Datuk Azmi Ariffin and Datuk Ismail Brahim. In the judgement dated yesterday, Azmi said MS Elevators had breached its contract and failed to deliver functional and safe lifts by the stipulated deadline of Feb 28, 2015. According to court documents, the school had awarded MS Elevators a RM566,000 contract in July 2014 for the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of three lifts at its Johor Baru campus. Under the Letter of Award (LOA), the contractor was required to complete the work within six months, with a liquidated ascertained damages (LAD) clause of RM10,000 per day for any delay. However, the lifts were only certified by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) on June 2, 2015 — 94 days after the deadline — and were subsequently found unsafe. Incidents included schoolchildren being trapped in a lift and dignitaries being forced to walk up seven floors during school events. The court ruled that the school was entitled to LAD amounting to RM940,000 and RM70,294.80 in rectification costs incurred when third-party contractors were hired to repair and make the lifts safe for use. The court also affirmed the lower court's decision to award a nominal sum of RM35,000 for loss of student intake due to the unavailability of the upper floors. The appellate court held that MS Elevators had no legal basis to suspend works or refuse to rectify the defects unless payments were made, noting that no valid payment certification had been issued by the project consultants. The court also dismissed the company's counterclaim for RM387,908.60 for alleged outstanding payments, citing its failure to complete works as per the contract or obtain proper certification. In affirming the High Court's findings, the Court of Appeal emphasised that MS Elevators had neither applied for a valid extension of time nor complied with the contractual procedures. "There was no written notice given by the company to seek an extension of time. "They had the contractual right to do so if they believed the school's actions or omissions had caused delays. "The company cannot now turn around and blame the school for its unwarranted delay. "The defendant must live with the consequences of its fault," the court said. The court also awarded RM25,000 in costs to the school.
