Lokayukta police seek details of allotment of sites under MDA

Time of Indiaa day ago

Mysuru: Lokayukta police, conducting a thorough investigation into the Mysuru Development Authority's (MDA) controversial 50:50 site-sharing scheme, have sought details of the allotment of sites under the scheme.
The special court overseeing the case granted Lokayukta police additional time until June 17 to complete their investigation and submit a comprehensive report in connection with the sites given to institutions and individuals in the land-swap scheme. Earlier, the Lokayukta probed charges against chief minister Siddaramaiah, his wife Parvathi, brother-in-law BM Mallikarjuna Swamy, and a landowner, Devaraj, and submitted a report to the court clearing all charges against the CM in the case.
Later, Lokayukta police bought time from the court to probe other cases. According to the Lokayukta probe, about 1,055 sites were given to various individuals and institutions, including societies, in the land-swap scheme, in which sites in developed layouts were given to owners and GPA holders for land acquired by the development authority.
Superintendent of police, Lokayukta, TJ Udesha, who is the investigation officer in the case, told TOI that they sought documents of sites given under the controversial 50:50 scheme.

The team requested an extension of time to properly analyse the substantial volume of documents and conduct necessary interviews with relevant stakeholders.
Following the submission of the application to MDA, the Lokayukta office received about 200 property documents, which the investigating team members are examining in each case to uncover potential irregularities in the allocation process. The MDA officials are cooperating with the investigation by providing requested documents and information, he said.
The probe aims to determine whether there was any wrongdoing of established guidelines or misuse of power in the implementation of the site-sharing scheme. The investigation is particularly focused on the verification of beneficiary credentials, adherence to allocation criteria, and proper documentation of the entire process.
MDA special land acquisition officer KR Rakshith, who is holding additional charge as commissioner of MDA, said the authority has been sharing all details and documents sought by Lokayukta police. Recently, the Lokayukta cops sought documents of sites given to individuals and institutions when DB Natesh served as commissioner of the erstwhile Muda, Rakshith stated.
Sources claimed that the investigation agency is focusing on 42 sites given during the time of the former commissioner. Natesh earlier denied the charges.

Siddaramaiah rekindles debate on dividing Belagavi

Belagavi: Chief minister Siddaramaiah added fuel to a long-standing debate over the division of Belagavi district, the largest in Karnataka, by suggesting the demand for new districts exists only in Belagavi. He said the issue would be addressed after consultations with local MLAs and the district-in-charge minister. Siddaramaiah spoke on the issue during a public address in Gauribidanur Wednesday, adding momentum to renewed calls for the district's trifurcation. His remarks follow public works minister Satish Jarkiholi's open support for a division recently. Jarkiholi said splitting the district into three would lead to more efficient administration. There was widespread anticipation that the govt would announce the creation of new districts — Chikkodi and Gokak — during the legislature session in Belagavi in Dec 2024. Several seers, civic leaders, and local organisations submitted representations demanding the division. However, the govt's inaction disappointed many. Belagavi is the most populous district in the state, with an estimated population of nearly 55 lakh. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Over 40 and Struggling With Belly Fat? Try 1 Teaspoon Daily (See Results Fast!) getfittoday Undo It comprises 506 gram panchayats — more than any other district — 14 taluks, 18 assembly constituencies, and spans two-and-a-half Lok Sabha constituencies: Belagavi, Chikkodi, and a part of Uttara Kannada. Proponents of the division argue that new districts would bring administration closer to the people and attract more developmental funds. Currently, people in many taluks, including Athani, Yadawad, Raibag, Chikkodi, Mudalagi, and Ramdurg, travel 100–200km to reach the district headquarters. Demands to divide the district are not new. As far back as 1997, the Vasudev Rao, Hundekar, and PC Gaddigoudar committees recommended carving out Chikkodi as a separate district. However, the move was shelved after strong opposition from pro-Kannada organisations, who feared it would strengthen Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti's influence. They insist that no division should take place until the Supreme Court settles the Karnataka-Maharashtra border dispute. Reacting to Siddaramaiah's comments, Chikodi Zilla Horata Samiti president Sanju Badiger told TOI: "We cannot welcome or oppose the CM's remarks. Over decades, several govts have made similar promises without action. We want results — not more words." Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Andhra's unilateral ban on mangoes against spirit of federalism: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah has urged Chandrababu Naidu, his Andhra Pradesh counterpart, to withdraw the ban on transport of Totapuri mangoes from Karnataka into Chittoor district. The decision to write to Naidu came on Wednesday, a day after mango producers and farmers dumped their produce on streets of Srinivaspura in Kolar. In his letter, Siddaramaiah asked Naidu to intervene in the matter and issue directions to Chittoor district authorities to immediately revoke the ban. Siddaramaiah revealed that the AP govt has stationed multidisciplinary enforcement teams comprising personnel from revenue, police, forest, and marketing departments at inter-state checkposts adjoining Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to implement the ban. "This abrupt and unilateral move has caused considerable hardship to mango growers in Karnataka, particularly those in the border regions who cultivate Totapuri mangoes in substantial quantities," Siddaramaiah said. He said farmers in border districts rely heavily on robust links with Chittoor-based processing and pulp extraction units for marketing their produce. "The current restriction has disrupted this well-established supply chain and threatens significant post-harvest losses, directly impacting livelihoods of thousands of farmers. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? He expressed concern that the AP decision may lead to avoidable tension and retaliatory measures, with stakeholders already expressing discontent that could potentially disrupt the inter-state movement of vegetables and agricultural commodities. Karnataka chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh had also previously written to her AP counterpart K Vijayanand, demanding that the state lift the ban. In her letter, she pointed out that Chittoor's district collector, in an order on June 7, had banned entry of 'Totapuri' mangoes from other states. "There is an apprehension that affected stakeholders in Karnataka may obstruct vegetable inflows from Andhra Pradesh, escalating into unnecessary inter-state tensions, something we must strive to avoid," the letter states. She urged Vijayanand to "immediately intervene" and get the collector to revoke the order. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . UP woman gets daughter's BF murdered, held with 4 others

Lucknow: A woman along with four men, including her brother, was arrested on Thursday for the murder of her daughter's boyfriend at her home in UP's Basti. The body of 22-year-old Abusad Alam, a native of Bihar's West Champaran, was recovered in a field near the woman's home on June 8. Police arrested three accused — Hameedullah, Chandraprakash, and Ashish — on Thursday morning after they were captured in a CCTV near the site where Alam's body was found. The trio was seen attacking Alam with sticks in a field. They told the police that the murder was planned by Ayesha Khatoon and her brother Jameel Ahmed who were against Ayesha daughter's relationship with Alam. Police then grilled Ayesha and Jamal who reportedly confessed to their crime. Police recovered two motorcycles used in the crime and five mobiles from the accused. Basti SP Abhinandan said Ayesha Khatoon was unhappy with her daughter's relationship with Alam, who lived in Pune with his brother and had met the girl who lived there. "Despite Ayesha's objections, the two families reluctantly agreed to the match due to the couple's insistence. However, Ayesha secretly plotted the murder with the help of Jameel and his acquaintances," said the SP. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo "Ayesha invited Alam to her home for dinner on June 8. At that point, Jameel and the three men entered the room and thrashed Ayesha's daughter for defying her mother. They chased Alam and beat him to death with sticks in a field near the home," said the SP. The accused ran over Alam with bikes multiple times, causing abrasions, fractures, and internal bruising, the SP added. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
