MEGHAN Markle raised eyebrows as it was revealed she is still using her HRH title - despite promising the late Queen she wouldn't after leaving royal duties.
Although she used it around her friends instead of for "commercial purposes', a royal expert has criticised her for using the title for her advantage.

Vanity Fair's Royal Correspondent Katie Nicholl claims Meghan using the title is hypocritical

In a recent podcast interview with pal Jamie Kern Lima, a photo showed a gift basket of ice cream and strawberry sauce Meghan sent her a year ago.
With it came a note on monogrammed paper, signed: "With the compliments of HRH the Duchess of Sussex."
However, during the chat, Meghan opened up on a number of personal topics, including describing royal life as being 'in the trenches.'
Speaking on The Sun's Royal Exclusive show, Vanity Fair's Royal Correspondent Katie Nicholl said: 'I think it just poses just a bit of a hypocrisy element.
'A big issue over, well, you've attacked this institution many, many times, most recently in a podcast, which we've just heard this week.
'And yet you want to retain all of the perks and privileges of being in that institution, which is, of course, the titles.
'I suppose if they are just Harry and Meghan Sussex, because that is her name, she's right to say she's not a Markle anymore - when you marry most people take their husband's name and that's what she's done - but she doesn't need to be using the HRH title.'
Katie speculated about the reasons for Meghan to continue using her royal title in California, particularly given her recent As Ever brand launch and Netflix cooking series, With Love, Meghan.
The royal expert continued: 'She doesn't really need to be using the Duchess of Sussex.
'But of course, that sets her aside from, you know, everyone else, including top list, A-list Hollywood celebrities.'

Public Relations Consultant Mark Borkoski agreed, saying: 'Of course it adds weight and she knows it adds weight.
'And it gives that sort of subliminal aura that she still has links with the British Royal Family, which is a very, very, very powerful brand globally, particularly in America.
'And the fact if you are disconnected from that, of course you lose your social capital, you lose your weight in terms of sort of some of these deals that she's trying to do.
'And I'm sure she is using that when it's important, when she has to land something, to remind the people the power that she possibly has.
'This is a power game.'

The PR expert added that this is particularly important in America as 'that status is so important'.
He explained: 'Without that status she just is another sort of B-lister in a continent absolutely populated with celebrities.'
On The Jamie Kern Lima Show this week, Meghan also gushed over her husband's efforts to keep their family - which includes Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three - safe.
She said: 'He's [Harry's] just out there, just constant, like he's just going to do whatever he can to make sure that our family is safe and protected and we're uplifted and still make time for date nights.
'He's also a fox. If you haven't noticed, my husband's very, very handsome.
'But his heart is even more beautiful.'

Meghan claimed that the pair are now enjoying the 'honeymoon' stage of their relationship after being in the 'trenches' for years.
She shared: 'You have to imagine at the beginning, everyone has, like, butterflies.
'Then we immediately went into the trenches together.
'Right out of the gate, like six months into dating.
'So now, seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way, and that's why I feel like it's more of a honeymoon period for us now.'
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and relocated to California.
In Prince Harry's recent security court case, which he has just lost, his lawyer said: 'On 8 January 2020, (the duke) and his wife felt forced to step back from the role of full time official working members of the royal family as they considered they were not being protected by the institution, but they wished to continue their duties in support of the late Queen as privately funded members of the royal family."
They have since had a fractious relationship with King Charles and Prince William.

EastEnders star suspended by BBC after disabled slur on Strictly set
The singer, who performed in the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Of The Opera and also won 2023's Celebrity MasterChef, told The Sun on Sunday earlier this month that the Strictly comment was not sexual or directed at one of the female cast but was a nickname for fellow contestant Borthwick.

Jamie Borthwick suspended from EastEnders after using disabled slur
EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick has been suspended from the BBC soap, on which he plays Jay Brown, after being captured using a disabled slur. The 2024 Strictly Come Dancing star is believed to have made the offensive remark while in Blackpool last November. Jamie was recorded on a mobile phone on the set of Strictly as they filmed in the iconic Tower Ballroom. Describing the people of seaside town Blackpool, he used the term 'm********s', which was condemned by Blackpool Council's Tory group leader Paul Galley, who called it a 'shocking' and 'horrible' comment. Consequently, the BBC issued a statement to The Sun on Sunday: 'This language is entirely unacceptable and in no way reflects the values or standards we hold and expect at the BBC. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your show in the link we'll send you so we can get TV news tailored to you. 'We have robust processes in place for this.' As per the publication, Jamie, who joined EastEnders in 2006, has now been suspended from the BBC. Jamie also issued an apology, saying: 'I want to apologise sincerely and wholeheartedly for the words I used in the video showing my reaction to making it through Blackpool week on Strictly. 'I am deeply sorry for any offence and upset my words and actions have caused. 'It is no excuse, but I did not fully understand the derogatory term I used and its meaning. That is on me completely. 'Now I am aware, I am deeply embarrassed to have used the term and directed it in the way I did. It was wrong.' He continued: 'When I made the video, I was excited and caught up in the moment. 'Again, that is no excuse. But my regrettable actions are not a true reflection of my views or who I am. 'I enjoyed every minute of my time in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom and the town itself. 'The people of Blackpool have always been amazing with the Strictly crew, dancers, and cast members. 'I know they will be again for this year's show and those in years to come.' He concluded with: 'I am truly sorry.' The footage he refers to also featured Wynne Evans, with the pair having been informed they had been selected for the nationwide Strictly Live Tour. 'Blackpool, by the way. Absolute m********s,' Jamie is thought to have said at the time. After Jamie used the slur, The Sun's video has Wynne saying, 'Oh my God.' It also attracted backlash from disability campaigners and residents of Blackpool. Warren Kirwan, Media Manager at disability equality charity Scope, said: 'Attitudes and language like this are never acceptable. 'It's not just ignorant and hurtful to disabled people; it has wider consequences. 'Negative attitudes hold disabled people back in all areas of life, from getting a job to shopping on the high street. 'Mr Borthwick needs to reflect on what he said, educate himself, and do better. 'We hope he takes the opportunity to get to know the reality of disabled people's lives.' This is not the first time Jamie has been caught up in a Strictly-related controversy. In April, he and Wynne made headlines after a video emerged of them larking around with a sex toy backstage at the tour in Birmingham, which saw them chastised by bosses. This happened prior to opera singer Wynne being removed from the tour in January due to inappropriate behaviour. He was accused of making sexual comments around colleagues, for which he apologised. The GoCompare frontman was also filmed making a 'spit-roast' jibe during a photo session, which was believed to have referred to host Janette Manrara. More Trending Defending himself last month in his first interview since the drama began, Wynne insisted that he was actually addressing Jamie, whom they called 'spit-roast boy' among the cast, 'because he could contort his legs over his head like a spit-roast chicken.' 'I would be the first to apologise if I had used it in the double meaning of that word,' he told The Sun. However, in the latest development, Wynne was informed that his BBC Radio Wales contract would not be renewed after an investigation, which he said 'breaks [his] heart'. Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle's furious row that 'ripped the monarchy to pieces'
Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton were said to have had a furious row during a clear-the-air meeting in 2018 A Royal expert has described a crucial meeting between Prince William, Prince Harry, Kate and Meghan as an event that "ripped the monarchy to pieces". The explosive encounter reportedly took place in June 2018 when the Prince and Princess of Wales sat down with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex amid rising tensions after Harry and Meghan's wedding. The situation escalated post-ceremony, as recounted in Prince Harry's memoir 'Spare', who cited early turbulence involving his wife and his sister-in-law. He detailed a dispute concerning bridesmaid dresses prior to his wedding which purportedly left Meghan in tears, mentioning that Kate "grimaced" when Meghan used her lip gloss. In an effort to resolve matters, both couples convened for a candid discussion after the Sussexes returned from their honeymoon. The atmosphere during the chat reportedly grew so fraught that it caused physical signs of distress in the Princess of Wales. According to Harry's depiction in 'Spare', the intense air-clearing session at Kensington Palace saw Kate demand an apology from Meghan while clenching a leather sofa, which saw her "fingers turn white". Harry detailed in 'Spare' that Kate's request stemmed from a comment Meghan made about her pregnancy hormones, referring to it as "baby brain". Meghan apparently offered her apologies, justifying the contentious remark as commonplace amongst her circle of friends, reports the Mirror. The situation escalated when Harry alleged that William "pointed a finger at Meg", and reportedly admonished: "Well, it's rude, Meghan. These things are not done here." Harry claims Meghan retorted: "If you don't mind, keep your finger out of my face." In the new Channel 5 documentary 'Meghan vs Kate: The Meeting That Changed the Monarchy', Royal commentators suggest this encounter was pivotal for the Sussexes, setting in motion their eventual departure from Royal duties. Richard Kay of the Daily Mail posited that this was the moment "the seed of Megxit was sewn", while his colleague Sarah Hewson reflected: "Had that meeting been a success, had they been able to put their differences aside, things would have been very different indeed." Newsweek's chief Royal correspondent Jack Royston commented: "If only they'd listened. If Meghan had listened to what was being said to her, she could have changed way back in 2018. "And even if they had still quit the monarchy, they could have saved themselves so much pain and so much conflict." He went on: "What happened in that room back in June 2018 was the defining element of the relationship between the two couples that ripped the monarchy to pieces." Valentine Low, a noted Royal author, also remarked: "They had pathetic little differences that should have been sorted out in two minutes. But it helped fuel the flames." Harry's candid reflections in his memoir 'Spare' come as Meghan shared her experiences with the royals on their Netflix series. Recounting their earliest encounters, she expressed surprise at the private formality of the Royal family members. In the second instalment of their six-part Netflix documentary, 'Harry and Meghan', the Duchess discussed her first impressions of her brother-in-law and wife Kate. "When Will and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot," Meghan explained. "I was a hugger. I've always been a hugger, I didn't realise that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits." The mother-of-two elaborated further on the Royal customs saying: "I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside. "There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go 'You can relax now', but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me."
