Genoa's Morten Frendrup reveals taking inspiration from Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard

Yahoo13-03-2025

Morten Frendrup is one of Serie A's most underrated midfielders. He has been top class for Genoa over the last couple of years.
This has led to links with the likes of Milan and Inter and there has also been talk of interest from the Premier League. In a recent interview with Cronache di Spogliatoio (via TMW), he opened up about how he started playing football, his idols on the pitch and how criticism affects him. Frendrup plays as a deeper midfielder who is known to be good at breaking up play. When asked about who his references are in that position, the Dane said, 'When I was little I watched a lot of Premier League; (Steven) Gerrard, (Ngolo) Kanté to name some more current ones, but also (Milan) Badelj I watch a lot how he plays. I tried to steal something from him.' He also named Atalanta's Ederson as a peer his game is similiar to as well as someone he appreciates. Interestingly, given the reference to Gerrard, last summer when Liverpool were in lookout for a defensive midfielder, Frendrup was a name that was discussed heavily. While the Premier League champions-elect have managed this season without recruits in midfield under Arne Slot, it won't be surprising if a summer move does end up materialising. It is expected that Genoa will only offload him in case of an offer in excess of €20-25m is presented.Kaulik Mitra | GIFN

Jack Grealish excluded from Man City's Club World Cup tour

Jack Grealish is expected to be left out of Man City's squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. By Ravi Kumar Jha Published on June 5, 2025, 08:43 IST Jack Grealish is expected to be left out of Man City's squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. The player is expected to leave the club and are open to proposals from other sides. City believes he is better out rather than in as he isn't getting much game time in the blue jersey. The summer transfer window is already opened and there are clubs expected to be coming for Grealish later on. Jack Grealish is reportedly set to be left out of Manchester City's squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, signalling a potential end to his time at the Etihad. The England international, who has struggled for consistent game time under Pep Guardiola, is expected to be on the move this summer, with City now open to listening to offers. After joining the Premier League champions in a record-breaking £100 million deal in 2021, Grealish has endured a mixed spell in Manchester. While he played a key role in the club's historic treble-winning season in 2022–23, the 28-year-old has found himself on the fringes more often than not in recent months. With the summer transfer window now open, several clubs are expected to register interest in the former Aston Villa captain. Manchester City believe that allowing Grealish to leave is the right step, especially with limited minutes available for him in an already star-studded squad.
