Gold breaches Rs 1L mark/10g, including GST
HYDERABAD: After days of flirting with the Rs 1 lakh/10gm mark (24K) on the back of the Donald Trump-Xi Jinping slugfest, gold finally breached this psychological barrier for the first time in the Indian markets on Monday evening after the yellow metal scaled the $3,400/Oz mark to hit yet another all-time high of $3,430 in the international spot market.
"On Monday evening gold was selling at Rs 1,00,250 with taxes (3% GST) in the Delhi market," confirmed Yogesh Singhal, chairman of the Delhi-based All Bullion & Jewellers Association. On MCX too, prices of the yellow metal hit an all-time high of Rs 97365 (June futures). With this, gold has gained by 30% since Jan 1, 2025, and 14.5% since the April 8, 2025 low of $2982, pointed out Avinash Gupta, vice-chairman, All India Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council.
Gupta pointed out that it took time to breach this mark because gold has been selling at a discount of 60-65% to the international price in the Indian market and the Indian Rupee has strengthened due to the weakening dollar amid the tariff wars.
"Due to tariff tensions between China and the United States, China is consistently selling dollars and US bonds to purchase gold, leading to a sharp rise in gold prices. The US President is also attempting to remove Federal Reserve chairman Powell," said Surendra Mehta, national secretary, India Bullion and Jewellers Association.

HMDA plans new round of land auction at Neopolis in Kokapet
Hyderabad: After almost two years, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is gearing up for land auctions at Neopolis in Kokapet. Along with this, it has identified plots that can be sold. Earlier, the previous BRS govt had auctioned about 95 acres at Neopolis in two phases – June 2021 and Aug 2023. The state govt has already decided to go for land auctions across the state as part of resource mobilisation to fund various projects. Since there is a slump in the real estate sector, agencies such as HMDA and Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) have been waiting for the right time. The HMDA also wants funds for its various projects, including two elevated corridors – Paradise to Shamirpet and Paradise to Dairy Farm Road (Medchal) – and a greenfield radial road in Future City. "Of the 20 big land parcels at Neopolis, five are still available. If the state govt permits, we will go ahead with the auctions," HMDA metropolitan commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad told TOI. Budvel land auctions fetched the govt another Rs 3,625 crore in 2023. HMDA officials said there are about 2,414 plots available in 18 HMDA layouts, including ongoing layouts. While four major land parcels are available in Budvel, there are 41 open plots in Uppal Bhagat, 12 in Turkayamjal and 327 in Inmulnarva village in Rangareddy district. There are various layouts, including projects that were taken up under land pooling schemes, which have open plots that would be auctioned in the future, officials said. For instance, Lemoor, Thorrur, Kurmalguda, Bachupally, Medipally, Mokila, Pratapa Singaram, Bahadurpally and Pedda Kanjarala have 2,029 plots that are developed or under development. Sources said the govt will first go for land auctions in high demand areas in western part of the city, such as Kokapet, and continue if there is a good response.

Himachal CM Sukhu inaugurates Rs 75.10 crore development projects in Gagret, criticizes BJP for financial distress
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 75.10 crore in the Gagret Assembly Constituency while launching a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for pushing the state into financial distress through mismanagement and excessive borrowing during its previous regime, as per an official release. Addressing a public meeting at Daulatpur Chowk in Una district, Sukhu announced initiatives like a 400-metre span bridge on the Swan River, water supply schemes, and healthcare improvements, alongside his government's commitment to economic recovery through tough decisions, as the state aims to become self-reliant amidst ongoing challenges. Sukhu stated that during its regime, the BJP kept on boasting about the 'double engine Sarkar' but could not significantly contribute to the development of the state and raised loans from the Centre, thus pushing the state into a financial crisis. He stated that to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant, the government was determined to take some harsh decisions to improve the economy with the cooperation of the people of the State. Sukhu highlighted projects like the Daulatpur-Bhadrakali road, in which Rs 15 crore had been spent; Gagret Hospital's new building; and the upcoming Hoshiarpur-Nadaun four-lane road, while assuring the filling of vacant doctor posts and addressing water scarcity through tube wells. The Himachal Pradesh CM also mentioned the Bulk Drug Park in Haroli, set to begin construction soon. He further criticised the BJP's education policies for dropping Himachal's ranking to 21st, leading to school mergers for quality education. Rajasthan: Bank employee withdraws Rs 4.58 crore from customer's account in Kota, arrested
ANI 08 Jun 2025, 01:27 GMT+10 Kota (Rajasthan) [India], June 8 (ANI): A woman employee of ICICI Bank in Kota allegedly withdrew Rs 4.58 crore from customers' accounts and invested it in the share market, police said on late Saturday, adding that she has been arrested. Sub-inspector (SI) Udyog Nagar Police Station Mohammad Ibrahim told reporters, 'Bank officer Sakshi Gupta took Rs 4.58 crore from 43 customers' accounts. A case has been registered, and she has been arrested'. 'Sakshi Gupta had invested this money in the share market through a demat account,' the officer added. More details are awaited. (ANI)
