Mobile phone surgically removed from stomach of Shivamogga jail inmate
Chief Superintendent Ranganath P lodged a complaint against Dhawlath at Tunga Nagara police station in this regard under section 42 of the Karnataka Prisons (Amendment) Act-2022. At around 8 pm on June 24, Dhawlath approached the prison hospital, claiming he had swallowed a stone. Prison authorities transported him in an ambulance to McGann District Hospital for further treatment. Doctors at the hospital conducted an X-ray but initially found nothing in his stomach.
Later, he was taken to the hospital again on June 26 and underwent a second X-ray, which revealed the presence of a foreign object in his stomach. The hospital recommended surgical removal. After obtaining Dhawlath's written consent, doctors performed surgery and extracted a mobile phone measuring approximately 1 inch in width and 3 inches in length. The phone was identified as a KECHAODA-brand device, without a battery or SIM card.
The phone was handed over to prison authorities in a sealed envelope on July 8. As mobile phones are classified as prohibited items inside the prison, the chief superintendent lodged a complaint seeking a detailed investigation into how the device was brought inside, bypassing prison security.
Ranganath told The New Indian Express that it is unclear when the convict swallowed the phone, whether when he was taken out for hospital visits or other procedural purposes, or if he swallowed it in panic when prison authorities or the police raided the prison for inspection. 'The police will question Dhawlath based on my complaint. The police investigation will reveal the truth of how and when he swallowed the phone,' he said.

39 without permits detained in Arunachal
1 2 3 Itanagar: Police detained 39 people on Monday for residing or working in Arunachal Pradesh without valid inner line permits (ILPs), in violation of Section 3 of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation (BEFR) Act, 1873. They were detained during the ILP enforcement drive targeted key locations, including Banderdewa, Karsingsa, Naharlagun town, and Papu Hills, said Itanagar Capital Region SP Nyelam Nega. Personnel from the Banderdewa, Naharlagun, and Papu Hills police stations carried out inspections at labour camps, work sites, and roadside establishments. In Naharlagun, 30 people were detained by a team led by inspector Krishnendu Dev, and non-FIR cases were registered against them. Meanwhile, inspector Tarun Mai's team detained six persons at Papu Hills. SP Nega said all checks were conducted peacefully and in accordance with legal procedure. Accused ‘sell' attached properties
T'puram: The accused in Nirmal Krishna deposit fraud have reportedly sold several properties owned by them despite being attached by under Banning of Unregulated Deposit Schemes (Buds) Act, 2019, as part of revenue recovery measures. TOI is in possession of new title deeds that show several properties worth crores of rupees at Kuthukal village in Neyyattinkara and Parassala were reportedly sold. An auditorium at Parassala was sold for Rs 6 crore and 185 machines of a factory in Kinfra were also sold with the silent consent of officials concerned. Some officials at the collectorate, Kinfra and other departments backed the accused in selling the attached properties, alleged Nirmal Krishna Nikshepa Samrakshaka Samithi (NKNSS). "After the Buds authority attached the properties, the accused approached various courts and obtained stay orders. These stay orders don't permit them to sell the properties, which were attached. But the accused used them tactically to sell the properties. Some officials worked with vested interest to delay attachment proceedings against several properties. The factory was attached by Buds authority. Later, the attachment was lifted after finding that the accused had taken it over from Usha Umesh, 53, a woman entrepreneur, by forging documents. Using this situation, the accused are planning to sell the factory. "There were 585 machines in the factory and the accused sold 185 of them for crores of rupees with the silent approval of Kinfra officials. I was contacted by a person whom the accused approached with a proposal to sell the factory and remaining machines for Rs 4 crore," said Umesh. As per preliminary findings, a cheating worth Rs 1,000 crore took place in the Nirmal Krishna fraud with over 13,000 depositors of Nirmal Krishna Chit Funds in Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari districts losing money. Offering high interest, the accused accepted deposits from people but the firm later collapsed. The economic offence wing of Tamil Nadu crime branch is probing a case registered over the fraud and cases have also been registered in Thiruvananthapuram, Marayamuttom, Parassala, Vattiyoorkavu and Cantonment police stations.

Jharsuguda teacher held for alleged sexual misconduct
Jharsuguda: A 50-year-old govt school teacher was arrested on Monday evening for allegedly sexually harassing two students at a high school in Jharsuguda district. The accused was taken into custody following a formal complaint by the survivors' parents. He has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and relevant sections of BNS. According to police, the teacher allegedly engaged in inappropriate physical contact with the students during school hours. The incident came to light when the survivors informed their families, who reported the matter first to the block education officer (BEO). "A preliminary inquiry was launched on Saturday after we received the complaint on Friday night," said district education officer Radhakant Gartia. District child welfare committee chairperson Ashish Panda confirmed that the survivors' statements will be recorded before a magistrate. The court has ordered the teacher to be held in judicial custody while a departmental probe is underway. "We have requested reports from both the district education officer and the district child protection Officer," Panda added.
