A Comprehensive Guide to the Hadid Family: Gigi and Bella Hadid, Their Siblings and More

Yahoo31-05-2025
Gigi and Bella Hadid announced in May 2025 that they'd recently discovered they had a secret sister.
The supermodels confirmed their father, Mohamed Hadid, had a brief relationship with a woman named Terri Hatfield Dull following his split from their mother, Yolanda Hadid, in 2000. Dull later became pregnant, but her daughter Aydan Nix didn't realize Mohamed was her biological dad until she was 19 years old.
Mohamed is the father of six children in total, as he shares daughters Marielle and Alana with his first wife, Mary Butler, as well as two daughters, Gigi and Bella, and son Anwar with his second wife, Yolanda.
His daughter Gigi started a family of her own with the birth of daughter Khai in September 2020. The model later split from Khai's father, Zayn Malik, and is currently romantically linked to Hollywood icon Bradley Cooper.

Born in Nazareth, Mohamed and his family fled to Lebanon during the Palestine War before settling down in Washington, D.C. in the early 1960s. Mohamed's early business ventures included selling classic cars and exporting equipment to the Middle East before he transitioned to real estate.
Mohamed became one of the most prominent builders in Bel Air and Beverly Hills. His mansion Le Belvedere sold for a staggering $50 million in 2010, while the 48,000-square-foot home he called The Crescent Palace netted $58 million.
He ran into legal trouble while trying to build a mansion on Strada Vecchia Road in Beverly Hills when it was opposed by the local Homeowners Alliance. The Los Angeles city council voted in 2015 to pursue criminal charges against Mohamed for violating zoning laws by not following planning orders in building the estate.
When the developer agreed to plead no contest, he was sentenced to 200 hours of community service as well as paying a fine of $3,000 and returning $14,000 to the city of Los Angeles. He also had to pay out $3 million in a 2018 civil lawsuit filed by neighbors.
A Los Angeles County Superior Court ordered the estate on Strada Vecchia Road to be demolished in 2022 because it posed 'legitimate risk of suffering damage and harm to [neighbors'] homes.' Mohamed eventually sold the land for $5 million.
He is currently in a relationship with author Keni Silva.
Mohamed's marriage to first wife Butler lasted around 12 years, and they share daughters Marielle, born 1980, and Alana, born 1985.
The mogul's spokesperson told The Washington Post in 1992 that his split from Butler was 'amicable,' yet the former couple went through a difficult final few years in their marriage.
The riverfront home where the Hadids lived in McLean, Virginia, reportedly went into foreclosure, forcing Butler and her two young children to move into a rented home in Potomac, Maryland, according to The Post.
Once called the 'Lead Hadid' by younger half-sister Gigi, Marielle lived outside of the spotlight as the founder of Living Well With Marielle. The company offers interior design and wardrobe consultation, party planning and seasonal decorating services.
Marielle is a mother of two: son Colton was born in 2014 and daughter Coco was born in 2012.
Fashion designer Alana has worked with numerous brands, including Lou & Grey and her own emoji-centric garment company, Current Moji.
Alana launched a podcast called 'The Seeds' in May 2025. She promised 'unfiltered convos, deep dives and chaos (the good kind)' with influencers and content creators.
Shortly after his 1992 split from Butler, Mohamed started dating Dutch supermodel Yolanda. The couple tied the knot in 1994 and welcomed three children — Gigi, born 1995, Bella, born 1996, and Anwar, born 1999 — before divorcing in 2000.
Yolanda started her career with the Ford modeling agency and walked runways in Paris, Milan and New York City before marrying Mohamed. Following her 2000 divorce, she joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for its third season in 2012.
Celebrities Who Love Models: Tom Brady, Leonardo DiCaprio and More
The Bravo reality show documented her marriage to 16-time Grammy winner David Foster — which lasted from 2011 to 2017 — and her longterm battle with chronic Lyme disease.
More recently, Yolanda has served as a judge on Holland's Next Top Model and guest judge on Project Runway. She announced her engagement to boyfriend Joseph Jingoli in August 2024.
Gigi started her modeling career at age 2 when she appeared in a Baby Guess campaign after being discovered by Guess cofounder Paul Marciano. She took a break from modeling as an adolescent to focus on school before returning to the runway in 2011. She quickly became one of the world's most famous supermodels as she walked runways for Versace, Chanel, Fendi, Marc Jacobs and dozens of other major brands.
Her love life has also generated significant interest worldwide. Having dated Australian singer Cody Simpson and Joe Jonas as a teenager, Gigi made the announcement in April 2020 that she was expecting her first child with boyfriend Zayn Malik. Their daughter Khai arrived in September.
Gigi Hadid's Complete Dating History: From Cody Simpson to Zayn Malik
Gigi ended her relationship with Malik after he entered a no-contest plea to four counts of harassment against her mother, Yolanda. (Malik was sentenced to 360 days of probation and ordered to attend anger management counseling in October 2021.)
In May 2025, Gigi went Instagram official with boyfriend Bradley Cooper after dating for two years.
Bella followed in big sister Gigi's footsteps with her first modeling job for women's clothing brand Flynn Skye at age 16. She set a new record for appearing on the most Vogue September covers in one year in 2017 after gracing the front page of the magazine in China, Spain, Brazil, Australia and Arabia. She was chosen as Model of the Year by the British Fashion Council in 2022.
Bella was charged with driving under the influence in July 2014. She received six months of probation and had her driving license suspended for one year. The model announced in August 2023 that she was living a sober lifestyle.
During her four-year relationship with The Weeknd, Bella starred in the musician's 'In the Night' music video. The couple called it quits in August 2019.
Bella has been in a long-term relationship with professional equestrian Adan Banuelos since 2023.
Like his two older sisters, Anwar started modeling at a young age. He debuted for Moschino at age 17 in June 2016 and has since worked with Rihanna's Fenty x Puma line, Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren. He was selected as the face of Valentino's signature fragrance Born in Roma in 2019.
Anwar dated heiress Nicola Peltz (who later married Brooklyn Beckham) and Kendall Jenner before embarking on a relationship with pop star Dua Lipa from June 2019 to December 2021. He was later linked to model Sophia Piccirilli.
Gigi and Bella announced in May 2025 that they'd discovered they have a half-sister named Aydan, born in 2002. The Hadid sisters confirmed that their father had a brief relationship with Terri Hatfield Dull after his divorce from Yolanda.
'[She was] born and raised in Florida, growing up with the man she lovingly knew as her father until his sudden passing when she was 19,' the Hadids said in a statement.
Aydan only discovered her connection to the Hadid family when she 'decided to take a genetic test out of curiosity' at age 19. Gigi and Bella Hadid said that they'd 'embraced Aydan with open arms' ever since they first met in 2023.

'The Year of Dramione': Fan fiction's leap to bookstore shelves

1 of 5 | Emma Watson, seen at the world premiere of "Little Women" in 2019, played Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films and is central to the fan fiction subgenre known as 'Dramione.' File Photo by John Angelillo/UPI | License Photo Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The fan fiction genre has undergone an enemies-to-lovers story arc of its own. Once largely dismissed by the literary world, writing that reimagines existing franchises, characters and stories has become highly sought after by publishers. One such example is "Dramione," a subgenre of Harry Potter fan fiction that dreams up various situations in which adversaries Draco Malfoy and Hermione Granger fall in love. In August, Barnes & Noble devoted a table to two recent "Dramione"-inspired releases -- Rose in Chains by Julie Soto and The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley -- dubbing 2025 "The Year of 'Dramione.'" "These books are based on the classic fan-fiction works that shaped the 'enemies to lovers' trope to be what it is today," the sign read. A third title, Alchemised, penned by SenLin Yu, hits bookshelves Sept. 23. 'Dramione' takes center stage The writing platform Archive of Our Own, better known as AO3, has half a million entries related to Harry Potter. Rose in Chains, released July 2, originated as the fan fiction The Auction on the site. That story followed Hermione after she was sold to Draco amid the Death Eaters' victory over Hogwarts. Its wild popularity prompted the book adaptation, The Washington Post reported. "It just always comes back to Pride and Prejudice," Soto told the outlet. "This sense of two people who are intrinsically different and do not understand each other but perhaps feel connected or attracted to each other." Roshni Radi, who helms Spotify's audiobooks editorial team, explained the allure of a romantic relationship between Hermione and Draco in an interview with Harper's Bazaar. "Draco has this redemptive arc; he changes from the person he was in the books to this new person that Hermione can love. She sees something in him that us as readers need time to see. This is him very clearly acknowledging he's wrong, and then he makes amends, and there is something really intoxicating about a character who's willing to completely accept that and change and be different," she told the publication. The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy, meanwhile, was already been in the works when an agent reached out to Knightley regarding her AO3 piece Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love. She told The Washington Post that Irresistible, which follows a blooming love between an assassin and a healer, is the online narrative's "spiritual successor." "People in the publishing industry tend to like to read and so a lot of them are fans and read fan fiction," Rebecca Tushnet, a member of AO3's legal committee told UPI. Fanfic goes mainstream Many popular contemporary books originated in the online fanfic space, including the well-known Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James. The book, published in 2011, originated as a Twilight fan fiction story, Master of the Universe. In James' telling, Twilight's Edward Cullen and Bella Swan were transformed into the erotic novel's billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. James went on to publish three more volumes based on the characters -- Fifty Shades Darker (2011), Fifty Shades Freed (2012) and Grey (2015). Her books inspired the films starring Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. The first feature ranked No. 1 in the domestic box office two weekends in a row. Another Twilight fan fiction story to be reimagined into a standalone novel is Beautiful Bastard by Christina Lauren, released in 2015. The fan fiction was titled The Office and accumulated some 2 million views. Anna Todd's After book series was inspired by a piece of fan fiction about Harry Styles of One Direction fame. The original story, published on Wattpad, has accumulated 725 million views. "Tessa Young is an 18 year old college student with a simple life, excellent grades and a sweet boyfriend," the official synopsis reads. "She always has things planned out ahead of time, until she meets a rude boy named Hardin, with too many tattoos and piercings who shatters her plans." The After books were also adapted for film. Ali Hazelwood's 2021 debut novel, The Love Hypothesis, is being adapted into a film starring Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman. The story was conceived from the Star Wars-based fan fiction Head Over Feet about Rey and Kylo Ren, which fans call "Reylo." "Fanfiction is just an amazing medium," Hazelwood told Collider. "It's great... to find your voice, to explore things that you usually don't find in traditional publishing. But it's also just great to feel a sense of community and to get to know people, to find someone who's like-minded and interested in similar things. It's very hard to make friends as an adult. And I feel like I truly found my adult friends through fanfiction and through the fandom community." Soto, who has also transformed a "Reylo"-based fan fiction into Forget Me Not, echoed that gratitude for the community inherent in fandom. "'It means a lot to me that the culture of fan fiction of like, 'Oh my god, this thing ruined me for 48 hours. I haven't been able to stop crying. I hate it. I hate everyone in it. I hate myself. I hate the author. Please read this,'" she told Swoon. "The intense emotions of, I've been vomiting about this fan fiction. You have to read it -- that kind of community of sharing (is) what makes us giddy, what makes us really intense in fandom, that's kind of transitioning to BookTok and transitioning to Bookstagram," she added. Perhaps the passion inherent in these spaces is why publishers are taking notice, too. "It's just a very special moment, because finally these fans have an outlet to give back in this really tangible way that they did not have before -- to support authors who are now, in the case of SenLin Yu and me as debuts, trying this new career path to see where this could lead," Knightley told Harpers Bazaar. But the value in fan fiction writing extends well beyond the potential for publication, Tushnet said. "To me, it's never about making the jump to getting paid for it," she said. "People develop all sorts of skills and passions and connections through fan fiction and I would never want to flatten that." "As long as there are humans, they will ask what happens next," she said. "The fight we have is their ability to find each other."

The family who made Kennedy Center medals at their kitchen countertop have been dropped by Trump as he eyes new Tiffany design

A Washington-area family that has handmade the Kennedy Center honorees' signature rainbow-and-gold medallions for nearly five decades has reportedly been cut loose, the latest change in President Donald Trump's ongoing reshaping of the nation's flagship public arts institution. James and Mila Baturin have been making the medals, which were designed by New York artist Ivan Chermayeff, since the first Kennedy Center Honors ceremony was held in 1978. Since then, the center's distinctive awards pieces, featuring three gold-plated medallions on a rainbow ribbon necklace, have largely been assembled by hand on the family's kitchen countertop in Bethesda, Maryland. However, they learned earlier this month that the Kennedy Center would no longer be working with them, as the arts center reportedly has contacted jeweler Tiffany & Co. about designing a new medal. 'As the Kennedy Center looks toward the future and embarks on a new chapter, we will be transitioning to a new partnership for the creation of the Honors medallions,' reads a letter, dated Aug. 6, seen by The Washington Post. 'We suspected something would happen as soon as the president decided he was going to take over the Kennedy Center,' Baturin told the paper. The Independent has contacted the Kennedy Center and Tiffany for comment. President Trump announced the latest crop of Kennedy Center honorees earlier this week, naming '70s rock band KISS, country legend George Strait, disco singer Gloria Gaynor, actor Sylvester Stallone, and British actor Michael Crawford. They will be celebrated at the Kennedy Center Honors award ceremony in December, hosted by none other than Donald Trump. In February, Trump bucked decades of bipartisanship at the public-private arts institution and pushed out presidentially appointed trustees from the Biden era. The new board then took the unusual step of voting Trump as its chair. Since the takeover, Trump has vowed to eliminate 'woke' content from the Kennedy Center, and has been met with some boos and boycotts from audience members and performers. The president's Republican allies, meanwhile, have proposed a bill that would rename the Kennedy Center the Donald J. Trump Center for the Performing Arts. Announcing the honorees this week, the president said he was personally involved in the selection and vetoed "a couple of wokesters" proposed by the Kennedy Center board. Staff were reportedly caught off guard by the decision, and Kennedy Center Honors executive produce Matthew Winer announced his resignation this week. The Kennedy Center isn't the only major Washington public institution getting a Trump makeover. The White House is reportedly planning a sweeping review of the Smithsonian Institution, home to many of the nation's premier historical and cultural museums, to ensure everything from exhibits to operations are in line with the president's interpretation of history ahead of upcoming celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the U.S.

Robin Givhan Exits The Washington Post

Robin Givhan on Sunday announced that she took a buyout from The Washington Post, which has been offering packages to tenured staffers who have been at the newspaper for more than 10 years. Givhan, who joined the Post in 1995, served as its premier fashion critic before transitioning to senior critic-at-large in 2020 — where she covered everything from European luxury fashion to the role of personal style in American politics. Givhan briefly decamped to Newsweek as style and culture correspondent from 2010 to 2012 before returning to the Post in 2014. In 2006, Givhan won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism, remaining the only fashion writer to snag the award. In her Instagram post, Givhan said she'll be taking time to resume the tour for her book 'Make It Ours: Crashing the Gates of Culture with Virgil Abloh,' that was released in June and chronicles the rise of the late designer. But she remained coy about her future career plans. 'There's still a lot to be said, and I'm just self-centered enough to believe I'm someone who needs to be heard,' Givhan said in her post. 'So I'm not done. Democracy definitely dies in darkness, but it is gravely wounded by silence.'
