Chennai engineer held for sending bomb threats to Udupi school
Udupi: Ahmedabad police have apprehended a Chennai-based female engineer, identified as Rene Joshilda, in connection with a series of hoax bomb threat emails sent to various institutions, including a school in Udupi. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in addressing the alarming wave of threats that disrupted public safety across multiple states.
On June 16, Vidyodaya Public School in Udupi received a menacing email claiming that a bomb detonation at the school would result in children's deaths, intended to provoke parental protests and compel police action regarding an alleged rape case in Hyderabad. The chilling message prompted the registration of a case at the Udupi City Police Station, sparking an intensive investigation.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar indicated that the local police are likely to seek custody of the accused from Ahmedabad authorities for further probing once their investigation concludes.
Joshilda, an electrical engineer and senior IT consultant, allegedly used fake email IDs, virtual private networks (VPNs), and dark web tools to conceal her identity while sending 21 threatening emails to schools, hospitals, and other high-profile locations across states including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and others.
Her motives, as revealed by Ahmedabad police, stemmed from a desire to frame a male colleague, Divij Prabhakar, whom she wished to marry but who wed another woman in February this year.
According to reports, the threat email was received from an email ID which had the name Divij Prabhakar in it.The arrest has brought relief to Udupi's community, which faced heightened anxiety following the threat. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if others were involved, while Udupi police prepare to deepen their inquiry into the local implications of
the case.

MP: 2 dead as tunnel collapses near Mhow
Bhopal: Two workers lost their lives on Wednesday when a section of an under-construction tunnel collapsed near Choral on the Indore-Ichhapur National Highway, officials said. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. at Tunnel Number 3, the part of a major infrastructure project, aimed at improving connectivity between Indore and Khandwa. Speaking to IANS, Deputy Superintendent of Police Umakant Choudhary said, "Persistent heavy rainfall loosened the surrounding soil and triggered the collapse. It caused the outer face of the tunnel to give way. One worker died on the spot, while the other succumbed to injuries in a hospital." The official also added, "A MERG report has been filed, and we will investigate the matter once the post-mortem reports are received. The investigation will focus on whether safety protocols were adequately followed, especially given the ongoing monsoon season, which often heightens the risk of such accidents." The deceased have been identified as Vikas Rai, 29, a native of Jhonka Vermasia in Jharkhand's Giridih district, and Lalji Kaul, a resident of Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh. "Both workers were reportedly staying in a labour camp near the construction site," the officer added. Rai died on the spot after being buried under debris, while Kaul was initially admitted to a private hospital in Mhow and later referred to the Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital in Indore, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the local administration rushed to the site to oversee rescue operations and assess the structural integrity of the remaining tunnel sections. The tunnel, being constructed by a Hyderabad-based private firm, is part of a 4.1-km stretch designed to reduce travel time and improve road safety by minimising sharp turns along the highway. Both ends of the tunnel had recently been cleared, and strengthening work was underway. The tunnel was scheduled to open for traffic in June 2026. This incident has reignited concerns over construction safety in the region. A few days earlier, a similar tragedy occurred in Jhabua district, where the roof of an under-construction cinema hall collapsed, killing two workers and injuring three others. That project was reportedly being carried out without proper permissions, raising questions about regulatory oversight and enforcement.

Businessman Robbed Of Rs 30 Lakh At Delhi Home, Police Scan CCTV
A Delhi-based businessman was allegedly robbed of Rs 30 lakh by unidentified assailants from his residence in southwest Delhi's Vasant Kunj area, an official said on Wednesday. The businessman is engaged in city gas distribution in the area, the official said. According to police, the alleged incident occurred on June 23 when three to four unidentified men forcibly entered the house of Karan Chopra, and decamped with the cash. "A call regarding the robbery was received at Vasant Kunj South police station, following which several teams were rushed to the spot," said the officer. Mr Chopra told the police that a group of men allegedly barged into his house and robbed approximately Rs 30 lakh. A case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 309(4) (robbery), 331(6) (house trespass), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation), has been registered, the officer said. The police said that CCTV footage is being scanned, and teams have been deployed to develop local intelligence.

ED conducts searches across NCR and Punjab in Rs 989 crore bank 'fraud' probe
NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted fresh raids as part of a money laundering probe against the former promoters of Delhi-based Shilpi Cables Technologies Ltd (SCTL), in connection with an alleged Rs 989 crore bank loan fraud case, news agency PTI reported. Nine premises in the National Capital Region and one in Jalandhar, Punjab, were searched under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). SCTL, which manufactured wires and cables for the automobile and telecom sectors, has been under insolvency since 2017. The money laundering case is based on a 2021 CBI FIR, which alleged that the company's promoters and their associates cheated a consortium of banks led by IDBI Bank . According to the FIR, loans were taken in the name of business but diverted for unauthorised purposes. The promoters later defaulted, causing losses amounting to Rs 989 crore. The ED suspects that a large portion of the bank loans, obtained through Letters of Credit (LCs), was transferred abroad via fake transactions. The role of the company's former managing director, Manish Goel, is under investigation.
