Funeral details for Cornal Hendricks confirmed
He was 37.
The former star suffered a fatal heart attack having battled a heart condition since 2015.
Hendricks made his Test debut in 2014, earning 12 caps for South Africa and scoring five tries during his international career.
Meanwhile, his memorial service will be held on Thursday, 22 May at the Boland Rugby Stadium in Wellington.
Another memorial service will be held in Paarl on Friday, 23 May.
Mark Alexander, President of SA Rugby, paid tribute to the former dual-international who wore the green and gold with distinction.
Apart from playing in 12 Tests for the Springboks in 2014 and 2015, he also represented the Blitzboks between 2011 and 2014, with whom he won a Commonwealth Games gold medal in Glasgow in 2014.
He was also a member of the Rugby World Cup Sevens squad in Moscow in 2013.
Cornal Hendricks, who was named Springbok Sevens Player of the Year for 2013, made his senior debut in the colours of the Boland Kavaliers, which is also where his career concluded after his last game for Boland in the SA Cup earlier this year.
He also represented the Cheetahs and Bulls with distinction in Super Rugby and the United Rugby Championship (URC), as well as in the light blue jersey in the Currie Cup finals of 2020 and 2021, both won by the men from Pretoria.
Apart from his 12 Tests, in which he scored five tries, Hendricks played one non-Test match for Boks and also ran out in the colours of the SA 'A' team.
In total, Cornal Hendricks played 233 first-class matches in a career spanning 17 years.
'We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Cornal Hendricks, a remarkable athlete who represented his country in sevens and XV-man rugby with distinction,' said Alexander.
'Cornal was one of those players who loved the game and he worked extremely hard, but he always did so with a smile on his face, treating all people with respect. His energy and love of life, on and off the field, lifted his team-mates and those around him.
'His contributions to the sport and his unwavering dedication will always be remembered. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife Stephaney and their children, his family, friends, and team-mates during this difficult time. May his legacy continue to inspire future generations.' Rassie's special message to women: 'We are nothing without you'
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has shared a sweet message with the women of South Africa during Women's Month. In it, the rugby hero paid tribute to the Women's Rugby squad, and other special leading ladies in his life. JP Pietersen praises resilience of young Sharks in close call against Cheetahs
The Sharks XV suffered another loss against the Cheetahs at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont on Saturday. Sharks XV coach JP Pietersen praised the resilience shown by his young Currie Cup team in fronting up to the Free State Cheetahs, despite suffering a third loss on the bounce in the competition on Saturday evening at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Clermont, west of Durban. "Obviously we didn't get the result but immensely proud of the team. It's been tow tough weeks. We stood up today against a well-coached Cheetahs team, fronting up on our home ground in showing the performance that we did today," the coach said after the match. The home team lost the closely contested match 7-5, with a missed conversion denying them at least a share of the spoils against their more experienced rivals. "The game was obviously won and lost defensively. You can see both teams defended well but the Cheetahs took the opportunity," Pietersen said. "It was just unfortunate we couldn't get our continuity on attack. We did some very good things on attack, we just couldn't get continuity. "But it takes time to build cohesion, to get a feel (for each other). Vusi Moyo was new at 10, Marnus Diego was new (at centre). It takes time, so I'm extremely proud of the group today."
