Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Air India Board Orders Safety Audit; Tata To Launch Separate Probe
Last Updated:
After the deadly Ahmedabad crash that killed 274 people, the Air India Board has ordered a safety audit, staff upskilling, and full support to victims' families
In the wake of the devastating Air India crash in Ahmedabad, which left 274 people dead, the airline's Board convened an urgent meeting to review the incident and chart a course forward, sources told News18.
The Chairman and CEO of Air India briefed the Board on initial findings and the current status of ongoing investigations. Sources said that as a first step, the Board directed a comprehensive internal audit focused on aircraft health and maintenance practices across the fleet.
To strengthen operational integrity, the Board also announced a performance review of all relevant departments, with plans for targeted employee upskilling and training to address any gaps. It also reportedly resolved to extend full emotional, financial, and logistical support to the families of those affected by the tragedy.
Additionally, Tata Group—Air India's parent company—will carry out a parallel investigation to identify the root cause of the crash and recommend corrective actions independent of official government inquiries, sources added.
The airline is also said to have expressed commitment to full cooperation with all official investigative bodies, including the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the government-appointed high-level panel.
On June 12, the London Gatwick-bound Boeing 787-8 aircraft crashed soon after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport, killing at least 241 people on board, and several others on the ground as it plunged into a medical college complex.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is already probing the fatal crash. A high-level multi-disciplinary committee, headed by the Union home secretary, will also examine the causes that led to the crash.
Chaired by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, the panel has the civil aviation secretary and the additional secretary in the home ministry as members, according to an order dated June 13.
The panel will ascertain the root cause of the crash and assess the contributing factors, including mechanical failure, human error, weather conditions, regulatory compliances and other reasons.
It will also recommend 'necessary improvements and formulate suitable SOPs to prevent such incidents in the future. The SOPs would also include best international practices regarding preventing and handling such incidents, the order said.
The panel will assess emergency response of various stakeholders, including rescue operations, and coordination.

Bring the action to Hyderabad, chief minister Revanth Reddy tells Tollywood
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday called on the Telugu film industry to draft a vision document that would contribute to Telangana's goal of becoming a $3 trillion economy by 2047. Speaking at the Telangana Gaddar Film Awards 2025 function in Hyderabad, Revanth said that just like the govt is preparing sectoral plans for IT, pharma, and other industries, the film industry too will have a dedicated chapter in the state's upcoming Vision 2027 document. 'Bring Hollywood and Bollywood to Hyderabad — this is where the action should be,' the CM told acclaimed director SS Rajamouli. 'You tell me what infrastructure you need; we will create it,' he said. Revanth said that while govt decisions may sometimes appear stringent, they are always aimed at empowering the film industry. Recalling the legacy of Congress govts, he said it was the Congress that instituted the Nandi Film Awards in undivided AP in 1964. He added that no film awards were given over the past 14 years, but the Telangana govt has now revived them, honouring filmmakers and artistes for every year since the formation of the state in 2014. Addressing the new generation of actors, Revanth urged stars like Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, and Allu Arjun to take a leadership role in advancing the industry's contribution to the state's economic vision. 'When India marks 100 years of independence in 2047, Telangana should also celebrate by achieving this ambitious milestone,' he said. Revanth emphasised that Telangana's competition is not with other Indian cities like Amaravati or Mumbai, but with global economic powerhouses such as New York, Tokyo, and Seoul. 'Regardless of my role in politics or govt, I am committed to achieving our $3 trillion goal,' he asserted. Paying tribute to revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, in whose name the film awards are instituted, the CM said, 'Gaddar inspired the movement for a separate Telangana. He remains a guiding force for us all.' On the occasion, the CM announced a govt contribution of Rs 3 crore to the Gaddar Foundation. Gaddar's son, Surya Kiran, thanked the govt and said the funds would help preserve Gaddar's memory and ideals. Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka and cinematography minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy presented the film awards. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Coimbatore corporation yet to get licence for new bus stand at Ukkadam
Coimbatore: While the city corporation has successfully invited tenders for the construction of a new bus stand at Ukkadam, it is yet to obtain the primary approval and licence for the facility from the regional transport authority. According to an official source, the tenders were floated a week ago and bidding is likely to be held on July 9. The state has sanctioned 23 crore for the project, the work order of which is expected to be issued within 10 days from the date of finalizing the bidder. The Ukkadam bus stand was demolished in 2018 to facilitate flyover work. Spread across 6.5 acres, the new bus stand would have two terminals – one for town buses with 30 bus bays and another for mofussil buses with 28 bus bays. The bus stand would have provisions for restaurants, shops and other facilities. A parking lot, which could accommodate 32 four-wheelers and 100 two-wheelers, is also part of the project. Commenting on the project, city corporation commissioner M Sivaguru Prabakaran said, "Fund has been sanctioned for the project. We will initiate the process to obtain the approval and licence for the bus stand only after finalizing the bidder, who might want to make some changes to the plan design and amenities, which the regional transport authority would scrutinize to grant the approval and licence. It would be more like renewal of the licence obtained for the old bus stand. " Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
