During a walk through Horton Square, Doug bumped into a panicked Gwen, who quickly deduced that he must be the one who stole Julie's necklace — though her pursuit was interrupted by an unfortunate run-in with Gabi. (Then again, has anyone had a fortunate run-in with Gabi lately?)
Doug's next stop was to Julie's, where he finally made good on his promise to return her priceless (and pricey!) family heirloom. 'I know I've said this before, but I'm really sorry, Julie, about everything,' he told her. 'You took me in and made me feel so welcome. You showed me so much kindness, so much love. I hadn't felt that in a long time, and I know that I blew it big-time, and I broke your heart and your trust, and I'll always regret that. Now, I ought to get going.'
But Julie wouldn't let Doug go without giving the audience all of the emotional closure we've been craving. After helping Julie put the necklace on, the two shared a beautiful moment in which they connected over family, with Doug telling her about his own personal favorite heirloom — a pair of cufflinks that were once owned by his grandfather Robert.
That gave Julie an idea, and she rushed over to the living room to retrieve a pocket watch that Doug carried during his days as a fighter pilot in World War II. 'He always said it brought him luck, so perhaps it'll do the same for you,' Julie told Doug, even promising to wire him the money he needs to pay off his loan shark. 'Until you pay off the debt, you're in danger,' she said. 'I wouldn't want to see you hurt. … It's what my husband would have wanted. You're his grandson, and you're my family.' (Seriously, how did Susan Seaforth Hayes not get a Daytime Emmy nomination?!)
'Would you do me a favor?' Julie asked on Doug's way out the door. 'You have a great deal of potential. You're loaded with wonderful DNA. You've just got to get your life together. And when you do, come back to Salem and show me how well you're doing.' He promised that he would, then walked out of Julie's life as quickly as he entered it.
Meyer, whose previous credits include roles on ABC's American Housewife and Disney Channel's Girl Meets World, joined Days of Our Lives in December 2024, playing a mysterious young man who shocked Julie by revealing himself to be her late husband's estranged grandson. Unfortunately, he shocked her again when he stole her precious necklace. In addition to his thievery, Doug also made money working as a busboy at the Brady Pub; his brief love interests in Salem included Holly and Ari.

The first of the month brings with it plenty of new movies on Netflix, but there's a price to pay for these new watchlist options. As the streaming service adds new content to its library, it also removes a sizeable chunk of titles to make some room. On Friday, Aug. 1, Netflix is set to remove almost 50 movies, and that includes some big hitters, including one of Christopher Nolan's very best efforts, and some of the most iconic features from the legendary Master of Suspense, Alfred Hitchcock. So, before you turn your attention to what's new on Netflix in August, be sure to check out these excellent movies before they wave goodbye to the big red streamer (at least for now, streaming platforms are always rotating content, so perhaps they will return a little way down the road). Picking Christopher Nolan's best movie is a thankless task, but for me, 'Dunkirk' would most definitely be up there. This ultra-tense war movie boasts some of the director's most stunning camerawork, and the bombastic soundscape will have your entire living room vibrating. Plus, it's all set to a powerful score by the legendary Hans Zimmer. If there's one area where 'Dunkirk' has proved divisive, it's the core story. Its nonlinear structure won't work for everybody, and there's a lack of truly compelling characters. However, it does a fantastic job of capturing an atmosphere of fear and chaos. Set during World War II, it depicts the evacuation of Dunkirk beach from multiple perspectives and showcases a military operation that saved hundreds of thousands of Allied soldiers. Watch "Dunkirk" on Netflix until August 1 The frozen peak of Mount Everest is pretty much the perfect setting for a survival thriller, and so the creatively-titled 'Everest' proves to be. Starring Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, Robin Wright, Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington and Jake Gyllenhaal, it's inspired by a real-life disaster in 1996, which saw eight climbers die when attempting to descend from the summit. 'Everest' packs plenty of sweeping vistas which showcase the beauty of the world's tallest mountain, but very quickly the picturesque setting becomes anything but pretty, as the destructive force of Mother Nature throws two groups of climbers into a desperate battle for survival. The movie's narrative chops aren't anything truly original, but the cast is packed with talent, and it's very easy to get invested in the climber's plight as you hope they can reach safety before it's too late. Watch "Everest" on Netflix until August 1 I'm more than a little surprised to see 'Happy Gilmore' playing its final round on Netflix this week. Netflix has just released the long-in-the-making sequel, so you'd have thought the streaming service would have been very eager to keep the original available so fans could marathon both. Of course, streaming rights are a thorny issue, so this is likely a decision out of Netflix's hands rather than anything the platform bosses have opted to do themselves. If you've never seen, or somehow never heard of, this Adam Sandler '90s comedy classic, it launched at the height of his popularity, and sees the goofball actor play the anonymous Happy Gilmore. Gilmore is an aspiring hockey player who can't quite make the grade due to his subpar skating skills and hotheaded temper. In need of money to prevent his grandma from losing her home, he puts his slapshot skills to use and tries to become a pro golfer. Watch "Happy Gilmore" on Netflix until August 1 I'm pretty disheartened to see that Netflix is removing the majority of its collection of Hitchcock movies on August 1. This includes 'Psycho,' 'The Birds, 'The Man Who Knew Too Much,' and my personal favorite, 'Rear Window.' This classic thriller has been a must-watch for more than 70 years, and its influence on the mystery genre is still felt to this very day. The movie marked the second collaboration between James Stewart and Alfred Hitchcock, and sees Stewart play a photojournalist confined to his humid apartment after breaking his leg during an assignment. With little to do other than watch the world go by from his front window, he soon becomes convinced his neighbor has committed a terrible murder. The flick is a masterclass in slowly ratcheting tension, and it plays with perspective in some clever ways. After all, we only see what's happening from Jeff's limited vantage point. Watch "Rear Window" on Netflix until August 1 'The Lego Movie' was the brickbuster I always wanted as a kid. I spent my youth watching (and making my own) Lego stop-motion videos, so this 2014 animated movie evoked a whole heap of nostalgia the first time I saw it in theaters. But even if you don't have a deep connection with the Danish construction toy, it's still a hugely entertaining family flick that's bursting with zany humor, ridiculous characters and some of the best animation around. 'The Lego Movie' follows the adventures of an average mini-figure called Emmet (voiced by Chris Pratt). He lives in the city of Bricksburg and lives an unadventurous life. But this world is shattered when he stumbles upon the mysterious 'Piece of Resistance' and becomes the only hope of saving the entire Lego universe from the evil Lord Business (Will Ferrell). Teaming up with master builders Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) and Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), it's now up to the clueless Emmet to save the day without falling to pieces. Joy Behar reveals The View is going on hiatus day after White House calls for it to be canceled
A day after the White House suggested that The View should be 'pulled off air' because its ratings 'hit an all-time low' due to 'Trump Derangement Syndrome,' host Joy Behar got MAGA tongues wagging when she accidentally revealed that the daytime talk show was approaching its summer break. 'Before we go on hiatus, we only have one more show after this,' the 82-year-old comedian declared at the top of Thursday's broadcast before looking off-camera and asking executive producer Brian Teta: 'I'm allowed to say that, right?' Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, meanwhile, jokingly exclaimed that it's 'too late now' as Teta noted: 'It doesn't really matter.' Unfazed, Behar said she was 'optimistic' that the 'tide is turning' among Donald Trump's base when it comes to the ongoing saga over the Jeffrey Epstein case, noting that MAGA influencers continue to demand a full release of the files related to the convicted sex offender. 'I mean, the ultimate irony would be that Rupert Murdoch will take him down. Fox News, who created the monster, will take him down,' she added, referencing the president's lawsuit against Murdoch over the Wall Street Journal reporting that Trump sent Epstein a 'bawdy' birthday letter. As for The View taking a hiatus after Friday's show, that has likely always been in the plans – and follows the schedule the program has had in place for years. Additionally, a source with knowledge noted that it is the show's regularly scheduled summer hiatus. After taking a weeklong break around the July 4th holiday, which the show returned from earlier this month, The View typically airs for several more weeks before wrapping up the season in late July or early August. It then kicks off its new season sometime in September, a standard practice in the broadcast television industry. At the end of Thursday's broadcast, host Whoopi Goldberg told viewers that the program would return Friday and then for a 'brand new season' in September. She added that ABC would be airing 'encore' presentations of The View for the rest of the regularly scheduled summer hiatus. Of course, with Behar – who was explicitly targeted by the White House Wednesday as an 'irrelevant loser' amid their calls for The View to be canceled – suggesting she wasn't 'allowed' to say the show was going on hiatus, it got several prominent MAGA influencers excited about the prospect the show was done for good. 'JUST IN: Joy Behar accidentally admitted The View only has 'one more show left' before 'hiatus.' Is The View FINALLY being cancelled??! PLEASE tell me this is true,' right-wing podcaster Nick Sortor tweeted while sharing a clip of her comments. 'JUST IN: The View is TAKING A BREAK. This is their second-to-last show, for now, Joy Behar says,' conservative provocateur Eric Daugherty reacted. 'MAKE IT PERMANENT! First Stephen Colbert, now cancel The View.' Other pro-Trump figures, such as notorious anti-trans account Libs of TikTok, got in on the action – expressing hope that the break would be 'forever' because Behar had said the 'quiet part out loud' amid the Trump administration's threat. Meanwhile, conservative outlets like The Daily Caller shared video clips of Behar's remarks, accompanied by siren emojis. The Independent has reached out to ABC News for comment. Meanwhile, the Trump administration calling for ABC to pull The View off the air comes just days after CBS announced it was canceling Stephen Colbert's late-night show, which itself follows the network's parent company Paramount paying Trump $16 million to settle a 'meritless' lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. While Paramount has said that the Colbert cancellation was a 'purely financial decision' due to the dwindling ad revenues for late-night television and the show's expensive production costs, CBS staffers aren't buying that rationale. 'Many of us think this was part and parcel of the Trump shakedown settlement,' one network staffer told The Independent. Trump and administration officials have also added fuel to speculation that Colbert's cancellation was an additional concession in the settlement, which had already sparked accusations of bribery (including from Colbert himself) since Paramount seeks the administration's approval to close an $8 billion merger with Skydance. With the president gloating that Colbert 'got fired' and claiming he struck a secret side deal with Skydance for an additional $20 million in pro-Trump advertising, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr – who is responsible for approving the merger – didn't directly answer Fox News on Thursday when asked if Trump had anything to do with Colbert's cancellation. At the same time, Carr also suggested that The View could be a program he'd take a close look at amid the White House's push for it to be taken off the air. 'Look, it's entirely possible that there's issues over there,' he said. 'Stepping back, this broader dynamic [that] once President Trump has exposed these media gatekeepers and smashed this facade, there are a lot of consequences. I think the consequences of that aren't quite finished.' Carr's suggestion about going after the talk show comes months after the FCC opened a probe into ABC and its parent company Disney – which paid Trump $16 million last year to settle a defamation suit – over their diversity policies, claiming they may have violated FCC regulations. On today's Days of Our Lives recap: Marlena and John's Penthouse: Brady tells Marlena and Belle about the quick labor and adoption in Chicago. Marlena asks about Tate and tells them about him rescuing Holly and Arianna Grace followed by the quick adoption. Brady thinks Sophia was right but feels for Tate. Just then, Rachel emerges from the bedroom and she and Brady head over to the DiMera mansion. Belle and Marlena worry about Rachel testifying at Johnny's trial. EJ arrives for Marlena to hypnotize him. He thanks her for the assistance, but she says she isn't doing it for him. EJ agrees they have the same goal of helping Johnny. If it doesn't work, Belle and EJ will fight it out in court. Marlena returns to start hypnosis and catches EJ and Belle kissing. Marlena dismisses her daughter and the two get started. EJ remembers talking to someone and asks why that person gave him something, but he can't see their face. He gets agitated and Marlena brings him out of the hypnotic state. When he's awake, he says he can't remember who he saw and worries it's because it was Johnny. Marlena thinks his mind is still protecting him and says she's willing to continue their sessions. Brady Pub: Abe finishes a call with Theo before sitting down with Paulina. She's overwhelmed by being called to the stand at Johnny's trial. He notes she now believes in Johnny's innocence, which makes her even more nervous about possibly sending him to prison. She also worries about Chanel as a suspect in the same crime. They talk about the video on the memory card and Abe recalls Chanel saying she never said what was on the video (could it be an AI alteration?). Paulina wants to change the topic and asks about Theo. Abe says he's not doing well. Paulina asks what's wrong with Theo and Abe says he and Claire Bear broke up. Paulina thought they were in it for the long haul as did Abe (Could we please see Theo and Claire Bear soon?). Paulina assures her beloved his son will find love. Paulina asks Abe what Johnny's chances are. Abe says the evidence is circumstantial but it's still a crap shoot. The only thing they can be assured of is EJ fighting is hardest to exonerate his son. DiMera Mansion: Gwen arrives with her bags and is annoyed no one is there to help her. Just then, Brady and Rachel walk in. Rachel wonders what Gwen is doing there and she says she is moving in. Rachel heads upstairs leaving Gwen to ask why Rachel is staying with Brady. He explains she's staying with him during the course of the trial. Rachel returns and Gwen exits to the Salem Inn. For some reason, Rachel is dying to get out of the house as soon as possible. Brady asks Rachel what is wrong, and she says she is looking at where Johnny was standing with the gun. He thinks she is very brave for telling her story to Aunt Belle. She worries about having to take the stand as she doesn't want to send Johnny to prison. Chanel and Johnny's Place: Chanel helps Johnny get ready for his day in court. She asks how he is feeling, and he tears up saying he's scared. They review the evidence that will be used against him, but Chanel says all of Salem wanted to plug his father. Johnny worries he's going to be convicted despite there not being proof. Chanel thinks Johnny will be acquitted but knows Belle will come after her next because of the video from the memory card. Horton Square: Belle takes a call from Claire Bear who is upset about breaking up with Theo. She runs into Paulina and Abe and they discuss a bit about the kids' breakup. Courtroom: Belle sits at her table. She calls EJ not sure where he is and wonders if something happened during hypnosis. Days of Our Lives Recap: Gabi and Toni Make a Deal About The Control of DiMera Enterprises Endings EJ arrives in court and updates Belle on the hypnosis. While he was under, he remembered asking someone to hand him the gun. Marlena thinks it's possible his mind is still protecting him from something traumatic. Outside the courtroom, Marlena hugs Johnny and promises to provide her love and support. EJ pops his head out and says it's time for Johnny to enter. The judge arrives and calls the court to order and brings the jury in. Marlena and Abe walk in. As they try to take a seat, Marlena passes out into Abe's arms. Brady and Rachel arrive back at Grandma Marlena's and she is depressed to learn her grandmother isn't around. Rachel is thrilled to learn she and her dad are headed to a movie and runs to her room to put her stuff away. Just then, Belle calls and says their mother collapsed in court. Gwen packs up all her things and remembers putting the necklace in the safe. When she opens it up, the necklace is gone. Belle crouches next to her mother and begs her to wake up.
