'No tragedy despite 1.5 lakh crowd at final': BJP leader BY Vijayendra slams Karnataka govt over stampede, says RCB owners should also provide compensation

Time of India2 days ago

BENGALURU: Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led state government over the Bengaluru stampede that claimed 11 lives and left many injured near the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Calling the tragedy 'avoidable,' Vijayendra demanded accountability from top state leaders and called for their resignation.
'Even before the players had left the Taj West End Hotel, the stampede had occurred near the Chinnaswamy Stadium,' Vijayendra said, questioning the government's decision to proceed with the IPL victory celebrations at Vidhana Soudha despite reports of deaths and injuries.
He also criticised deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar for attending the felicitation event at the stadium while the tragedy was unfolding.
'At the time of the incident, ambulances were not arranged. The state government must take full responsibility for the incident that occurred yesterday,' he said.
Vijayendra further took issue with the state's decision to order a magistrate inquiry instead of a judicial probe, alleging a lack of transparency and seriousness. 'The chief minister and the ministers have become overly obsessed with publicity,' he claimed.

Addressing the compensation announced by the state government—Rs 10 lakh per deceased—Vijayendra demanded more. 'When someone died due to an elephant attack in Kerala, you gave Rs 25 lakh — then for the people of our state who lost their lives, Rs 50 lakh compensation must be given. The RCB owners must also provide compensation. The situation has come to a point where the chief minister, deputy chief ministers, and the Home Minister must resign,' he said, adding that RCB owners must also contribute.

Piyush Jain case: Court dismisses accused application, hearing on July 4

1 2 Kanpur: Special chief judicial magistrate Kanpur Nagar Kumud Lata Tripathi on Friday dismissed the application of accused Piyush Jain and Sunil A Hirani in the much-publicised case in which the GST department had recovered approximately Rs 195 crore cash and gold bars weighing around 22 kgs. The DGGI Ahmedabad had raided perfume trader Piyush Jain's houses situated at Anandpuri Kanpur and Kannauj on December 21, 2021. The department had seized Rs 196 crore in cash and 23 kg gold from his possession. Piyush was ultimately arrested on December 27, 2021. He was bailed out after about eight months. The prosecution had made thirteen other persons accused apart from Piyush. All are currently on bail. Both accused had previously applied for the case diary and other documents as per provisions of the Cr PC which was strongly opposed by the prosecution. According to Ambrish Tandon, special prosecutor for DGGI Ahmedabad, the accused applicants pressed their demand on last date while he submitted that CD/DVD containing 479 to 11,455 pages of the charge sheet had already been provided to the counsel of Sunil A Hirani and the same had also been provided to Piyush Jain on October 20, 2023. Both had acknowledged receipt on the order sheet of the case file present in the court. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Hamburg: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo He stated that since copies of the documents had already been furnished by the court, it appears that this application had been filed only to delay proceedings. Therefore, the court should dismiss the application of Hirani and Piyush Jain. The court, which had reserved its order on the previous date, delivered the verdict and dismissed the accused applicants' plea. The magistrate in her order observed that since all documents had already been delivered by the prosecution to the accused, there was no reason to deliver them again. The application was viewed as a tactic to delay the trial and thus was dismissed. The next date was fixed as July 4 for hearing. Tandon informed that the prosecution would now present its evidence. Revanth dubs BRS ‘Devils Rajya Samithi', seeks 10-yr mandate for $1 tn T'gana

1 2 Hyderabad: In a scathing attack on BRS, chief minister A Revanth Reddy Friday dubbed the pink party as 'Devils Rajya Samithi (DRS),' mocking MLC K Kavitha's recent remarks about 'devils' harming her party from within. "Don't call it BRS anymore. Call it DRS," Revanth told a crowd at Alair in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, where he laid foundation for over ₹1,050 crore worth of projects. "BRS leaders themselves admit KCR is surrounded by devils. Yet their leader is asleep in the farmhouse. Go to every village and tell people these devils have arrived when BRS leaders show up," the CM said, calling upon Congress cadres to brand their rivals as 'DRS' across Telangana . With an eye on long-term governance, Revanth urged people to give the Congress a 10-year mandate, promising to make Telangana a $1 trillion economy and transform Hyderabad into a city on a par with New York and Tokyo. "I have no personal ambitions left. Bringing down KCR was my goal. Now my only aim is to develop Telangana," he declared. Revanth slammed the BRS for targeting the Congress after the PC Ghose Commission summoned KCR in connection with the Kaleshwaram project probe. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? Why this arrogance?" he asked. He accused the former CM of playing politics with the deity Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. "They denied people their right to stay atop the hill and fulfil their vows. Sins follow you like shadows. Maybe that's why KCR was hospitalised with fractures," he said. The CM laid foundation stones for projects, including the ₹574 crore Gandhamalla reservoir, ₹200 crore Young India Residential School, ₹183 crore medical college building, bridges, godowns, and roads across Alair constituency. He also vowed to develop the area under the Yadagirigutta Temple Board, much like the TTD in Andhra Pradesh. Revanth said the Congress would complete all pending irrigation projects in the region, and rejuvenate the Musi river despite resistance. "If Sabarmati and Ganga can be cleaned, why not Musi?" he asked, targeting both BRS and BJP for opposing the project. 'Employees are with Cong' Countering BRS criticism over employee issues, Revanth said, "Ask over five lakh govt employees—are you not getting your salaries on the first of every month now?" He added, "If not, don't vote for Congress. But if you are, give us another term. We treat you like family." On the caste census, he credited Telangana's 42% BC reservation plan for compelling PM Modi to promise a national-wide caste survey.
