Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Meets Italian Senate Foreign Affairs Chief
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Member, and Climate Envoy, Adel Al-Jubeir, met today with Senator Stefania Craxi, President of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Commission of the Italian Senate.
The two officials discussed bilateral cooperation and explored ways to further strengthen ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Italy. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments, as well as issues of mutual interest.

Oil Updates — prices rise as US-China talks counter OPEC supply worries
SINGAPORE: Oil prices climbed on Tuesday as investors awaited the outcome of US-China talks that could pave the way for easing trade tensions and improve fuel demand. Brent crude futures rose 22 cents, or 0.3 percent, to $67.26 a barrel by 09:45 a.m. Saudi time. US West Texas Intermediate crude was up 18 cents, or 0.3 percent, at $65.47. On Monday, Brent had risen to $67.19, the highest since April 28, buoyed by the prospect of a US-China trade deal. US-China trade talks were set to continue for a second day in London as top officials aimed to ease tensions that have expanded from tariffs to rare earth curbs, risking global supply chain disruptions and slower growth. Prices have recovered as demand concerns have faded with the trade talks between Washington and Beijing and a favourable US jobs report, while there are risks to North American supply due to wildfires in Canada, Goldman Sachs analysts said. US President Donald Trump said on Monday that the talks with China were going well and he was 'only getting good reports' from his team in London. A trade deal between the US and China could support the global economic outlook and boost demand for commodities including oil. Elsewhere, Iran said it would soon hand a counter-proposal for a nuclear deal to the US in response to a US offer that Tehran deems 'unacceptable,' while Trump made clear that the two sides remained at odds over whether the country would be allowed to continue enriching uranium on Iranian soil. Iran is the third-largest producer among members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and any easing of US sanctions on Iran would allow it to export more oil, weighing on global crude prices. Meanwhile, a Reuters survey found that OPEC oil output rose in May, although the increase was limited as Iraq pumped below target to compensate for earlier overproduction and Saudi Arabia and the UAE made smaller hikes than allowed. OPEC+, which pumps about half of the world's oil and includes OPEC members and allies such as Russia, is accelerating its plan to unwind its most recent layer of output cuts. 'The prospect of further hikes in OPEC supply continues to hang over the market,' Daniel Hynes, senior commodity strategist at ANZ, said in a note. 'A permanent shift to a market driven strategy (in OPEC) would push the oil market into a sizeable surplus in H2 2025 and almost surely lead to lower oil prices.'

Abbas tells Macron supports demilitarization of Hamas
PARIS: Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas has said that Hamas 'must hand over its weapons' and called for the deployment of international forces to protect 'the Palestinian people,' France announced on Tuesday. In a letter addressed on Monday to French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who this month will co-chair a conference on a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians, Abbas outlined the main steps that he thinks must be taken to end the war in Gaza and achieve peace in the Middle East. 'Hamas will no longer rule Gaza and must hand over its weapons and military capabilities to the Palestinian Security Forces,' wrote Abbas. He said he was 'ready to invite Arab and international forces to be deployed as part of a stabilization/protection mission with a (UN) Security Council mandate.' The conference at UN headquarters later this month will aim to resurrect the idea of a two-state solution — Israel currently controls large parts of the Palestinian territories. 'We are ready to conclude within a clear and binding timeline, and with international support, supervision and guarantees, a peace agreement that ends the Israeli occupation and resolves all outstanding and final status issues,' Abbas wrote. 'Hamas has to immediately release all hostages and captives,' Abbas added. In a statement, the Elysee Palace welcomed 'concrete and unprecedented commitments, demonstrating a real willingness to move toward the implementation of the two-state solution.' Macron has said he is 'determined' to recognize a Palestinian state, but also set out several conditions, including the 'demilitarization' of Hamas. In his letter, Abbas reaffirmed his commitment to reform the Palestinian Authority and confirmed his intention to hold presidential and general elections 'within a year' under international auspices. 'The Palestinian State should be the sole provider of security on its territory, but has no intention to be a militarised State.' France has long championed a two-state solution, including after the October 7, 2023 attack by Palestinian militants Hamas on Israel. But formal recognition by Paris of a Palestinian state would mark a major policy shift and risk antagonizing Israel, which insists that such moves by foreign states are premature.

In a cable sent to the Crown Prince, Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah congratulated on the successful Hajj season of 2025. The Emir praised the ongoing expansion works at the Grand Mosque and the development of modern smart services across the holy sites, which meet pilgrims' needs and facilitate the performance of rituals.
