Significance of Parashurama Jayanti
Parashurama Janmotsav holds a very special place in Hindu tradition. According to sacred texts like the Skanda Purana and Bhavishya Purana, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Parashurama, the son of Sage Jamadagni and Renuka. The earth goddess Bhumi, troubled by the tyranny of corrupt kings, pleaded for help, leading to Lord Vishnu's incarnation as a fierce warrior.
Blessed by Lord Shiva with a mighty axe (parashu), Parashurama stood for justice and righteousness. After the death of his father at the hands of a tyrant king, he vowed to eliminate evil and restore dharma. Legends say he conquered the earth 21 times, fought battles against unjust kings, and finally distributed their lands to Brahmins.
Parashurama is believed to be a Chiranjivi (immortal) and is said to reappear as the mentor of Lord Kalki, the future avatar of Vishnu.

Hanging Hindu torans, Jewish mezuzah as door decorations legal in Nevada: No larger than 12" x 36"
Hindus in Nevada are allowed to put toran in front of their houses. (AI image) Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo signed a bill into law allowing Nevada residents to hang religios door disp;ayes inlcuding Hindu torans and Jewish mezuzah. The bill was a joint initiative by the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The bill was introduced by Senators Julie Pazina, Dina Neal, Edgar Flores, Melanie Scheible, and Lisa Krasner, and Assemblymembers Erica P. Roth and Duy Nguyen. The bill permits religious displays upon dwellings that are no larger than 12' x 36'. The bill also requires maintenance workers to store religious displays in a way that preserves its sanctity. 'This bill is a significant win for Nevada Hindus because it ensures residents' right not only to observe their Hindu faith unencumbered, but also to bless their homes and everyone who enters them with the display of a toran, as their faith calls them to," HAF managing director Samir Kalra said. The law will come into force on October 1, 2025. The bill overrides any homeowner association (HOA) or residential restrictions that might prohibit such displays, thereby safeguarding the religious practices of Nevada residents. The Hindu toran, a traditional decorative item often hung above doorways, holds cultural and religious significance in Hindu households. It is typically adorned with intricate designs and symbols that bless the home and its inhabitants, inviting prosperity and warding off negative energies. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What is The Best Diet for My Knee Pain? Bhagavad Gita found in near-mint condition from Air India plane crash debris
Social media is abuzz with a 'miracle' that came to light in the aftermath of the deadly Air India crash in Ahmedabad that killed at least 260 people – an almost-intact hard copy of the religious text, the Bhagavad Gita. The holy book remained mostly undamaged despite the intense heat and burning fuel. Follow Ahmedabad plane crash live updates Air India's Gatwick-bound Boeing 787-7 Dreamliner (AI171), carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed into BJ Medical College's doctors' hostel in the Meghani Nagar area in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Of the 242 onboard the aircraft, which went up in flames within minutes of take-off, only one survivor remained. Among the victims of the tragic air crash was former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani. Since the crash took place in a residential area, several parts of Boeing's debris were found near the hostel and other infrastructures there. A copy of the Bhagavad Gita, a sacred Hindu text, also survived the fatal tragedy. Several videos of the book being found in the debris went viral on social media, with clips shared by some journalists confirming the same. A man was seen flipping the pages of the Holy scripture, showing it to the people at the crash site, who were also filming the Bhagavad Gita. According to the visuals, while some minor damage was visible on the holy book's cover, the written text and images on the pages inside seemed to be quite intact. Radharamn Das, vice president and spokesperson of Iskcon Kolkata, shared the video on X and said, "Amid the fiery #planecrash, a copy of the Bhagavad Gita was found untouched. One soul miraculously survived with minor bruises. Another girl, who missed the flight by just 10 minutes, was arguing with staff to allow her to board the ill-fated flight." Another user on the microblogging platform wrote, "Miracle amidst tragedy: Bhagavad Gita remains undamaged and intact after the plane crash." Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, seated on seat 11A of the Dreamliner, is the only survivor of the Air India crash. Ramesh is a 40-year-old British national who was visiting family in India. 'Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly,' Vishwash told HT. He said when he got up, there were bodies all around him. "I was scared. I stood up and ran. There were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance and brought me to the hospital," he added. Vishwas, who suffered injuries to his chest, eyes, and feet, is currently receiving treatment at Ahmedabad's Civil Hospital, Asarwa. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday visited the plane crash site in Ahmedabad, met the lone survivor, Vishwash and the injured victims at the hospital there. Following his visit, the prime minister expressed deep grief and wrote on X, 'We are all devastated by the air tragedy in Ahmedabad. The loss of so many lives in such a sudden and heartbreaking manner is beyond words. Condolences to all the bereaved families. We understand their pain and also know that the void left behind will be felt for years to come. Om Shanti.'

Couple killed in Air India crash had lost pilot son in earlier aviation tragedy
A couple who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday had already lost their only son in a previous aviation tragedy, UK-based news agency PA Media has reported, citing a London temple leader. Rajrajeshwar Guruji, who leads the Siddhashram Shakti Centre in Harrow, north-west London, said the couple had been returning from a religious celebration in India when the flight went down. Follow LIVE updates here. He told PA Media that their son, who was a pilot, had died in a crash in France several years earlier. The report did not identify the couple or their son. 'This couple had gone to India for a religious celebration – they were coming back and now this has happened,' Rajrajeshwar said. 'After what has happened to their son as well, it's just terrible to think about.' Also Read | Seated on 11A, passenger survives Air India Boeing 787 crash, all others die: Is it the safest seat? He further added that he personally knew 20 people who were killed in the crash and added that all were members of the Hindu community who had worshipped at his temple over the years. He said that most of those onboard he knew were people travelling either to visit elderly relatives in India or to take part in religious events. Others had adult children studying at university in the UK and were returning from extended visits. Also Read | Lunch plates abandoned, plane parts in walls after Air India jet hit doctors' hostel 'This is the most shocking news we have ever experienced in the temple's 25-year history,' he told PA Media. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft (AI171), which carried 230 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed into the complex of a medical college on Thursday afternoon. It had taken off from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. One person survived the crash, while 241 on board were killed. Of the total passengers onboard, there were 169 Indians, 53 British, one Canadian and seven Portuguese nationals, apart from 12 crew members. Aviation experts told HT that the aircraft's flight profile — descending while maintaining a nose-up attitude — might suggest a sudden and severe power loss. They cautioned, however, that while such a descent profile is consistent with engine failure, the exact cause cannot be confirmed until later after investigation.
