Dibrugarh gears up for transport boost with new bus & truck terminals
Dibrugarh: Dibrugarh Development Authority (DDA) has unveiled plans for a modern inter-state bus terminus (ISBT) and an inter-state truck terminus (ISTT) on the outskirts of the city, strategically positioned on NH-52 near the Bogibeel bridge approach road.
This initiative aims to ease congestion and enhance transportation efficiency as Dibrugarh evolves into a major urban hub and Assam's second capital, following Guwahati.
DDA chairperson Akhim Hazarika announced the proposal on Friday, confirming its submission to the state govt for approval. He also met with Dibrugarh district commissioner Bikram Kairi to discuss land acquisition for the projects.
"Dibrugarh's current transportation infrastructure is struggling to keep up with the city's rapid growth.
The ISBT and ISTT will not only enhance passenger convenience but also streamline cargo movement across the region," Hazarika said. "The district commissioner has assured us of land availability, which is a crucial step in making these projects a reality," he added.
The ISBT is expected to feature modern amenities, including waiting lounges, food courts, retail outlets, and ticketing offices, ensuring a seamless travel experience.
Meanwhile, the ISTT aims to boost freight logistics, strengthening supply chain efficiency and supporting businesses in the region.
Though construction timelines hinge on govt approval, the DDA remains optimistic about a swift response.
"With rising population and infrastructure demands, it is vital to upgrade our transport system. These terminals will significantly enhance connectivity and ensure efficient movement of both people and goods between Dibrugarh and other major cities," Hazarika added.

Centre set to push amendments to DDA, to give fillip to land pooling policy
The Centre is all set to push amendments to the Delhi Development Act, 1957, to give a fillip to the Land Pooling Policy and involve private developers in vertical development in 129 sectors spread across 104 urbanised villages of the capital. With the BJP government taking charge of Delhi, the Centre has decided to bring focus back to the long-pending Land Pooling Policy which, though notified in 2013 and 2018, has not been operationalised. The Centre is planning to push amendments to the Delhi Development Act which will make land pooling mandatory for all residents if a certain percentage -- 70% -- of owners of land in an area agree to pool land. The amendments also give power to the Centre to declare mandatory land pooling and mandatory urban regeneration even if a minimum threshold participation of 70% has not been achieved. The amendments were first proposed in 2022 and were put out for public consultation. However, they have been pending with the ministry of housing and urban affairs. According to sources, the amendments are likely to be pushed once again to operationalise the policy and build residential high-rises and housing for economically weaker sections in these areas. Earlier, DDA used to acquire land, build flats, provide community infrastructure like parks and then float housing schemes to dispose of these flats. However, this DDA-led colony development has become outdated and being challenged due to complicated land acquisition processes. In 2018, DDA came up with a LPP which gave the opportunity to the landowners of a notified sector to organise themselves into a "consortium", pool their land and keep 60% for development of residential high rises and other facilities and hand over 40% to DDA for community infrastructure like roads and sewer networks. As per the policy, 70% of the landowners of contiguous land in a sector have to give consent for their land to be pooled. Live Events The response to the scheme has been tepid as not a single sector has been developed. The biggest challenge in implementation remains the consent of landowners. This is why the Centre is now keen on bringing the amendments to make it mandatory for landowners to participate in the scheme. The Centre is also likely to increase the floor area ratio allowed from 200 to 400. This will make it more lucrative for private builders to come and participate in vertical development of the city. The policy is included in Master Plan for Delhi 2041 , which has not been notified pending approval of the Centre.

DEHRADUN : In the 111th board meeting of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority ( MDDA ) held on Thursday, the civic body decided to identify a land bank for upcoming residential projects. This move was prompted by the rising population density and the success of previous initiatives such as the ISBT and Aamwala Tarla residential schemes. Over 75 proposals were presented to the board, the majority of which concerned commercial construction, including hotels, eco-resorts, and residential map issues. "A budget of Rs 1,000 crore was proposed for the financial year 2025-26," said VC Bansidhar Tiwari . Additionally, the authority resolved to secure land specifically for new residential developments to address the growing demand for affordable housing, particularly for populations displaced by encroachment drives. The meeting also reviewed ongoing MDDA projects, including the Arhat market relocation and the ISBT takeover. The board also approved land pooling initiatives to support the establishment of IT companies and boost industrial growth.
