Metro rail project on right track: Minister
Patna: Urban development and housing minister Jibesh Kumar visited the Patna metro rail depot site and ISBT metro station at Bairiya on Saturday to inspect progress on the priority corridor of the project. The priority corridor forms part of Corridor II (Patna Junction to ISBT), a major section of the project. During the visit, the minister expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work. He commended the dedication and teamwork of officials, engineers, and workers involved in the construction. The minister said, "The Patna metro project is a dream of the people of city. We are working with full commitment to provide a modern, fast and environmentally friendly public transport system. I want to assure the citizens of Patna that this metro service will make their travel easier and more accessible." He was accompanied by Varsha Singh, additional secretary of the department and additional managing director of Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL), along with senior officials from both PMRCL and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The 6.6-km-long priority corridor will feature five elevated stations – Malahi Pakri, Khemnichak, Bhoothnath, Zero Mile and Patliputra ISBT. Khemnichak station will serve as the interchange between Corridor I (Danapur to Khemnichak) and Corridor II with two platforms on the same level. The ISBT depot is being developed over 30.5 hectares with 19.2 hectares designated for the depot itself. Constructed at a cost of Rs 142 crore, it will include key facilities such as parking, train repair and maintenance, a testing track, stabling yard, depot workshop, operational control room and a dedicated sub-station.

Mussoorie Dehradun development body to identify land bank for residential projects
DEHRADUN : In the 111th board meeting of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority ( MDDA ) held on Thursday, the civic body decided to identify a land bank for upcoming residential projects. This move was prompted by the rising population density and the success of previous initiatives such as the ISBT and Aamwala Tarla residential schemes. Over 75 proposals were presented to the board, the majority of which concerned commercial construction, including hotels, eco-resorts, and residential map issues. "A budget of Rs 1,000 crore was proposed for the financial year 2025-26," said VC Bansidhar Tiwari . Additionally, the authority resolved to secure land specifically for new residential developments to address the growing demand for affordable housing, particularly for populations displaced by encroachment drives. The meeting also reviewed ongoing MDDA projects, including the Arhat market relocation and the ISBT takeover. The board also approved land pooling initiatives to support the establishment of IT companies and boost industrial growth.

Long waits & new fees in line for birth & death certificates
Bhopal: People gathered at the BMC Birth-Death wing at ISBT following the discontinuation of free certificate services on Wednesday. The server issues prolonged the receipt issuance process from minutes to hours, causing lengthy queues. The increased footfall was partially attributed to birth certificates being essential for Aaadhar cards and passports. Online payment is now mandatory for birth-death certificates, with funds directly transferred to the Statistics Department's account, according to BMC Registrar Birth-Death wing, Satyaprakash Badgaiya. Bhopal Municipal Corporation, which previously issued birth-death certificates without charge, implemented fees from Wednesday. Despite the digitalised application process, server difficulties caused delays of 10-15 minutes or longer for fee payments and receipt generation, creating congestion at the Birth-Death wing. Previously, staff issued offline receipts for later upload, but the current system requires online payment before application submission, as fees are system-generated.
