Laxman accuses Cong of neglecting backward classes
Congress
, which ruled the country for over 50 years, did nothing for the development of backward classes.
He also opposed the Telangana model caste census.
Speaking at a seminar on caste census organised by the Social Justice Awareness Forum, Mysuru division, he accused the Congress of discarding reports submitted by various commissions aimed at uplifting backward classes economically, socially, and educationally.
Laxman claimed that former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, who governed for 17 years, ignored the Kaka Kalelkar Commission report, which recommended reservations in employment and education for backward classes.
He further alleged that subsequent Congress leaders, including Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, followed suit by neglecting these reports, effectively throwing them into the dustbin.
He also accused the Congress of rejecting the Mandal Commission report.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah, Laxman claimed they portray themselves as champions of backward classes while betraying them.

HC dismisses petition for dependent pension under freedom fighter scheme
Hyderabad: Telangana high court has dismissed a writ petition seeking grant of arrears and dependent pension under the Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Scheme, 1980. The court ruled that no pension can be sanctioned after the death of a freedom fighter if it was not granted during their lifetime. Justice NV Shravan Kumar delivered the verdict while hearing a petition filed by the late freedom fighter More Rama Rao's daughter, More Vijaya Laxmi, from Warangal district. Vijaya Laxmi claimed that neither Rama Rao nor her mother, More Sushila, were granted freedom fighter's pension despite their applications. After their deaths, being unmarried and mentally ill, she applied for a family pension, which was still pending with the authorities. Justice NV Shravan Kumar noted that although Rao applied for the pension in 1984, it was never sanctioned during his lifetime. Subsequent applications by his wife and later the petitioner were not eligible under the revised scheme. The court also noted that Rao declared "no eligible dependents" in official records. Further, in view of the 2014 guidelines, the court ruled that "no lifetime arrears or dependent pension shall be sanctioned to the spouse or daughter after the death of the freedom fighter" if the pension was not already approved, and dismissed Vijaya Laxmi's petition.

But this is nonetheless a landing point that would have been scarcely imaginable only months ago in the pre-Trump 2.0 era, when the EU along with much of the world could count on U.S. tariffs averaging out at around 1.5%. Live Events Even when Britain agreed a baseline tariff of 10% with the United States back in May, EU officials were adamant they could do better and - convinced the bloc had the economic heft to square up to Trump - pushed for a "zero-for-zero" tariff pact. It took a few weeks of fruitless talks with their U.S. counterparts for the Europeans to accept that 10% was the best they could get and a few weeks more to take the same 15% baseline which the United States agreed with Japan last week. "The EU does not have more leverage than the U.S., and the Trump administration is not rushing things," said one senior official in a European capital who was being briefed on last week's negotiations as they closed in around the 15% level. That official and others pointed to the pressure from Europe's export-oriented businesses to clinch a deal and so ease the levels of uncertainty starting to hit businesses from Finland's Nokia to Swedish steelmaker SSAB . "We were dealt a bad hand. This deal is the best possible play under the circumstances," said one EU diplomat. "Recent months have clearly shown how damaging uncertainty in global trade is for European businesses." Big Win for Donald Trump? That imbalance - or what the trade negotiators have been calling "asymmetry" - is manifest in the final deal. Not only is it expected that the EU will now call off any retaliation and remain open to U.S. goods on existing terms, but it has also pledged $600 billion of investment in the United States. The time-frame for that remains undefined, as do other details of the accord for now. As talks unfolded, it became clear that the EU came to the conclusion it had more to lose from all-out confrontation. The retaliatory measures it threatened totalled some 93 billion euros - less than half its U.S. goods trade surplus of nearly 200 billion euros. True, a growing number of EU capitals were also ready to envisage wide-ranging anti-coercion measures that would have allowed the bloc to target the services trade in which the United States had a surplus of some $75 billion last year. But even then, there was no clear majority for targeting the U.S. digital services which European citizens enjoy and for which there are scant homegrown alternatives - from Netflix to Uber to Microsoft cloud services. 3 killed as gunmen fire at protesters in Pakistans Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province
Peshawar, Jul 27 (PTI) Unknown gunmen fired at a gathering protesting against counter-terrorism operations in Pakistan's northwestern province Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, leaving three dead and many injured, a top official said. A day earlier, a mortar strike claimed the life of a girl in the Zakha Khel area of the Khyber District, sparking the Sunday demonstration, during which locals placed the girl's body in front of the Momand Ghuz security checkpoint. Suhail Afridi, the special assistant to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, said three people died and eight were injured in the firing by terrorists on the demonstrators in the Tirah Valley. Following the incident, the grieving families and residents of the area staged a protest by blocking the Tank-South Waziristan Road, and demanded immediate identification and action against those responsible for the killings. Afridi said, 'Following the girl's death on Saturday, locals staged a protest in front of the Frontier Corps compound today. They had gathered near he gates when shots were fired." 'I spoke to district officials who told me that terrorists belonging to Fitna-al-Khawarij fired at the protesters," he said, using the term designating members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
