
Trespass to design 2026 Commonwealth Games uniforms again
It comes after the Glasgow-based company designed the red, white and grey uniform worn by the workforce and volunteers at the Commonwealth Games in the city in 2014.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games is expected to feature around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories who will compete across 10 sports and six Para sports at four venues.
The Trespass brand, which has 299 stores around the world, was established in 1984 in Glasgow by Afzal and Akmal Khushi.
They said: 'It's great to be back. When we designed the uniform in 2014, we thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. So, getting the chance to be part of the Games again, in our home city, and design a second uniform is truly special.
'We know how important the uniform is for uniting the Games workforce and we're now working hard to create a design that's the perfect fit for Glasgow 2026.'
Glasgow was last year announced as the host of the 2026 Games after the Australian state of Victoria pulled out due to rising costs.
Jade Gallagher, chief operating officer of Glasgow 2026, said: 'It's great to welcome back Trespass to the Games as a returning sponsor for 2026.
'The Games uniform means so much to our volunteers and is the first thing athletes and spectators will see as they approach our iconic venues.
'It is important that we have the best team producing it and we're confident that with Trespass as our partner we will deliver a sustainable and iconic uniform design that will make Scotland and Glasgow proud.
'The people of Glasgow are truly at the heart of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, so it feels fitting that Trespass, a homegrown brand with over 40 years of experience in activewear and a sponsor of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, is returning to design another uniform that will celebrate the city's vibrant culture and unique heritage.'
Sarah Quinn, a Glasgow 2014 volunteer, said she is looking forward to seeing the new design.
She said: 'Receiving my uniform at the 2014 Commonwealth Games was the moment everything became real.
'Wearing it gave me a sense of belonging to such a unique and exciting experience.
'I can't wait to see the 2026 design.'

Russell Martin warned his Rangers players they will need to show a major improvement from Tuesday night's performance in the Czech Republic if the £40million windfall for reaching the Champions League is not to slip through their hands. The Ibrox men secured their place in the play-off round despite losing 2-1 in the second leg to Viktoria Plzen, with Martin admitting he was 'annoyed' by aspects of their display. After a commanding win in Glasgow last week, his new-look side prevailed 4-2 on aggregate. However, it proved to be a tense and nervous affair - with Rafiu Durosinmi and Svetozar Markovic scoring either side of Lyall Cameron's first goal for Rangers - and Martin knows his team will have to be so much better when they face Club Brugge for a place in Europe's elite tournament. 'I'm disappointed we lost and I am disappointed with how many chances we gave up,' said the Rangers boss. 'I think so much of it comes from just being so loose with the ball. 'We were playing against a team who had nothing to lose, who really committed so many numbers, four on the top line, with a heavy press. 'We played through the press a lot in the first half, got into their final third a lot, then just turned the ball over. From our point of view, it was self-inflicted. 'I said to the attacking guys: 'It's not fair on the guys at the back to take the ball under such big pressure, Jack (Butland), he's finding you, it's not fair that you just turn it over so cheaply'. 'I don't mind you losing the ball if you're so aggressive, one v one, taking someone on, but the lack of care on the ball was too much. 'We conceded a goal, and then we improved after the break and we scored, and then the level of intensity dropped. 'It was like: 'Okay, job's done, we can relax'. You can never relax playing against anyone, especially for this football club. 'So, again, another brilliant bit of learning and we're through to the last qualifying round, but I am annoyed. 'It's my job to be annoyed at some of the stuff, and also, we'll show them some of the really good stuff as well. But that wasn't enough. There's too many scary moments for the opposition that really we can do better with.' Pressed on whether his team need to step it up against Club Brugge, who made it through to the play-off with a 4-2 aggregate win over RB Salzburg, Martin replied: 'If we don't show a bit more care and quality on the ball, I think we will struggle against anyone. Rangers still progressed 4-2 on aggregate after Lyall Cameron scored on the night 'I don't feel relieved, I'm just a little bit annoyed that we've lost, a bit disappointed with some of the bits of the performance. 'When we do show care and quality on the ball, we look fantastic at times. But the gap between us being good with the ball and not being good is too big. That will come. 'Brugge are a good team and it will be a tough game. We play at home first and we know that can be really powerful for us, so I'm excited. 'We know the levels will go up at this stage of the competition, but we're excited about it. 'Jack (Butland) and the two centre-halves have been brilliant for us. They are the ones who have really had to take on so much information. 'If everyone can match their level of intensity and mentality, we'll be fine.' Rangers fell behind to a first-half goal from Plzen striker Durosinmi, before Cameron scored shortly after the break. That should have settled any nerves but this became a night fraught with nerves for Rangers as the home side spurned several good chances. Plzen eventually scored a second through Markovic, but it wasn't enough to overturn the deficit. There was concern in the second half when Cyriel Dessers went off with an injury and Martin confirmed the initial prognosis did not look great for the striker. 'Yeah, it looks a nasty one, so he's in a brace now,' said the manager. 'We'll have to just wait and see over the next couple of days, have a scan and see. 'We'll keep our fingers crossed it's not too bad for a big man.' Meanwhile, it was announced that Rangers have withdrawn their request to postpone their Premiership clash with St Mirren in Paisley, which takes place between both legs of the play-off with Brugge.

A bold new plan aims to link America's coasts by high-speed rail—Delaware-based AmeriStarRail has proposed the "Transcontinental Chief," a privately funded passenger and freight train that will take you from Los Angeles to New York in under 72 hours, with service aiming to begin by 2026. While the company still needs to secure a partnership with Amtrak to begin, plans are already coming together, including the eight major stops the proposed train will make along the route. Starting from Hoboken Terminal—reachable from Manhattan via PATH or ferry—the train heads west, skipping Penn Station due to tunnel restrictions for Amtrak's double-decker Superliners. The first leg runs to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where a single-level section branches toward Philly and D.C. Next is Pittsburgh, PA and then Cleveland, OH. The halfway point is Chicago, IL, America's rail hub and deep-dish capital, where the Transcontinental Chief will link with other long-distance routes. Then it's across the plains to Kansas City, MO. Rolling into the Southwest, the train will stop in Albuquerque, NM, a desert gateway along Route 66. Finally, the journey ends at Union Station in Los Angeles, CA. The train will serve 54 cities in total, but these eight anchors form its spine. AmeriStarRail says the route would replace Amtrak's "Southwest Chief" and "Pennsylvanian" services and will add truck transport via a roll-on, roll-off system—turning the train into a "rolling rest stop" for long-haul drivers. Not everyone's convinced, however. Amtrak has publicly said the plan lacks a "fundamental business case," though AmeriStarRail insists it will share details under a non-disclosure agreement. If it launches, this could be the fastest, most scenic way to traverse the country. The company hopes to begin service on May 10, 2026, which just so happens to be National Train Day. Service would also begin just in time for the 250th birthday of the U.S. and just weeks before the 2026 FIFA World Cup—exciting stuff!

Goodchild excited to race on home waters in The Ocean Race Europe
The 35-year-old, who lives in France but calls Falmouth home, is representing Team Biotherm in the 4,500-nautical mile multi-stage offshore race which began in Kiel this week and ends in Montenegro on September 20. The opening leg of the contest docks in Portsmouth on August 14, with the race departing from the Royal Yacht Squadron for leg two three days later. 'I'm definitely excited,' said Goodchild, who is joined in the boat by skipper Paul Meilhat, co-skipper Amelie Grassi, Jack Bouttell and Gauthier Le Boc. 'I have spent a lot of my racing life in France, as that is where the offshore racing world is based, but bringing these really cool boats which we sail around the world into Portsmouth is really exciting. 'I will catch up with some old faces and show them what we do, so I'm really looking forward to it and I am hoping there will be a good turnout!' Sam Goodchild will race in The Ocean Race Europe with Team Biotherm (Image: The Ocean Race Europe) Goodchild is one of seven Brits competing in the race this year but there are no UK-based teams, something he hopes can soon change. 'I enjoy France but I live out there for work,' he said. 'I have been over there for the last 10 years for sailing. 'I come back regularly and I still consider the UK home but being over there helps my career the most. 'If we can have more interest in sailing, more people sailing and more British sailors on the start line, that is definitely the direction I want it to go in.' Goodchild was part of the crew who finished second in The Ocean Race two years ago, a worldwide event. He feels he learned plenty from that experience as he targets success this time around. 'Two years ago, it was my first time sailing those sorts of boats so it was a learning curve,' he said. 'The race lasted six months as opposed to six weeks so it was a bit more of an endurance. 'This time, I have been racing in these sorts of boats for the last three or four years non-stop, which changes the whole scenario, so I am looking forward to the challenge. 'Of the seven crews here, they all have good sailors on and the level of competition will be very high, which is what we are looking for.' Sustainability is one of the key aspects of The Ocean Race Europe and it is also a topic close to the heart of Goodchild, who is aware of the impact taking part in a sport he loves can have on the climate. 'The whole team makes an effort as to what we can do to reduce our impact,' he said. 'We travel around Europe, which isn't great, but we try and do it by train, which takes a bit longer but it is nicer and more interesting. "In partnership with the Tara Foundation, we have also installed a microscope on board to capture microplankton for use by scientists (Eco Taxa Database), who then use and analyse the data. 'It is a big part of our sport at the moment, what we can do to reduce our impact, so we all have to do our bit.' Seven international teams, seven stopovers, 4,500 nautical miles, racing for the ocean. The Ocean Race Europe comes to Portsmouth 14 - 17 August - the city where the race first began in 1973 as the Whitbread Round the World Race.
