Andhra Government failed to clear NREGA wage dues: YSRCP
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP Panchayat Raj Wing State president Vennapusa Ravindra Reddy strongly criticised Deputy Chief Minister (Panchayat Raj and Rural Development) Pawan Kalyan for celebrating the National Panchayat Raj Day while over 11 weeks of MGNREGA wages remain unpaid to workers. He questioned how poor labourers, especially in drought-hit regions like Rayalaseema and North Coastal Andhra, are expected to celebrate when they haven't received their rightful earnings since February 6.
Despite Pemmasani Chandrasekhar being the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, the NDA coalition government in the State has failed to clear wage dues, pushing lakhs of workers into migration, he alleged.
Ravindra Reddy accused TDP leaders of massive corruption in the appointment of Mates under the employment scheme, collecting bribes of up to Rs 15 lakh per post, and drawing fake wages using forged signatures, while genuine workers are ignored. With no new jobs initiated from April 1, and old bills still remain unpaid, the State's 47 lakh active job card holders are left in distress. The Ombudsman system, meant to check corruption in MGNREGA, has been defunct for nine months, and even pro-TDP media has raised concern in this regard, he said.

Delhi considers building elevated road over ring road to ease chronic congestion
N ew Delhi: With the city's Ring Road catering to heavier traffic than its capacity, Delhi govt is toying with the idea of building an elevated road over the existing 55-km stretch. PWD minister Parvesh Verma said he had already asked for a feasibility of such a project, with the proposed road to be built on pillars and connected with other arterial roads through ramps. Verma said he had discussed the plan with Union minister for road, transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and received a go-ahead from him. "This will be one of the biggest projects of this govt and will be completed within its term," Verma told TOI. The minister said that Delhi's two ring roads bear the maximum load of traffic and remain clogged during peak hours. Adding to the capacity of the existing road would help ease traffic on the existing one while also decongesting other roads that connect with Ring Road. "Since the new road will be entirely elevated, it can be built on pillars along the central verge of the existing road. "The cost of the construction of an elevated road comes to about Rs 100 crore per kilometre. This project can easily be completed at a cost of Rs 5,500-6,000 crore," the PWD minister said. Once a relatively efficient arterial corridor designed to decongest central areas and facilitate cross-city travel, Ring Road is now facing chronic congestion. Unlike the newer Outer Ring Road, developed later to redirect peripheral traffic, the inner Ring Road is buckling under mounting pressures. From urban sprawl and flawed planning to infrastructure saturation and enforcement gaps, a confluence of factors has brought the once-speedy corridor to a glacial pace. When Ring Road was originally planned in the 1950s and completed in the following decades, it was meant to serve a very different city — both in population and traffic volume. At the time, Delhi had fewer than three million residents. Today, the metro region is home to over 30 million. The road, however, has not expanded proportionately to accommodate this growth. What was once designed as a bypass route now functions as a semi-central road. As the city grew outward, neighbourhoods like South Extension, Punjabi Bagh, Lajpat Nagar and Ashram became dense mid-city urban hubs. Ring Road now cuts through commercial, institutional and residential areas. The corridor is used not just by through traffic but also by local traffic to access shops, markets, schools and hospitals — all of which generate frequent stops and lane intrusions. Intersections like AIIMS, Moolchand, Dhaula Kuan, Ashram and ITO are choke points where arterial routes intersect with heavy local traffic. While flyovers and underpasses have been built at some locations, they often only shift the congestion rather than resolve it. Delhi Traffic Police conducted a survey in 2024 and found that of 134 congestion hotspots, at least 12 were located on Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

Himachal CM dedicates Rs 119.51 crore development projects in Bangana
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday dedicated development projects worth Rs 119.51 crore in the Bangana sub-division, marking a significant boost to infrastructure, healthcare, education, and water supply, as per an official release. The Chief Minister also participated as the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony of the three-day Piplu Fair. Prior to the event, Sukhu joined the traditional Shobha Yatra and addressed the gathering at Bhalethi, where he highlighted the cultural importance of such fairs and encouraged local farmers to adopt natural farming to enhance economic well-being. According to the release, development initiatives included the inauguration of key projects such as the Rs 2.12 crore Executive Engineer Divisional Office Building at Thanakalan, Rs 61.51 lakh Water Quality and Monitoring Training Centre at Barnoh, Rs 2.44 crore building for Government Senior Secondary School in Jathehri, Rs 1.45 crore Primary Health Centre at Chamyari, and Rs 93.69 lakh for four classrooms at Government Senior Secondary School in Mandli. Infrastructure projects like the Rs 10.31 crore Olinda-Bohru link road, Rs 12.22 crore roads from Saili to Handola via Kamoon Patti and from Saili Mahadev Temple via GPS Lubowal, and Rs 10.73 crore Rural Livelihood Centre building in Bangana were also inaugurated. Foundation stones were laid for upgrades to lift drinking water schemes worth Rs 2.35 crore in six villages, a Rs 10.59 crore irrigation scheme in Boul and Moh Khas, and rainwater harvesting structures costing Rs 7.20 crore across four locations. Himachal CM Sukhu inaugurates Rs 75.10 crore development projects in Gagret, criticizes BJP for financial distress
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 7 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth Rs 75.10 crore in the Gagret Assembly Constituency while launching a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for pushing the state into financial distress through mismanagement and excessive borrowing during its previous regime, as per an official release. Addressing a public meeting at Daulatpur Chowk in Una district, Sukhu announced initiatives like a 400-metre span bridge on the Swan River, water supply schemes, and healthcare improvements, alongside his government's commitment to economic recovery through tough decisions, as the state aims to become self-reliant amidst ongoing challenges. Sukhu stated that during its regime, the BJP kept on boasting about the 'double engine Sarkar' but could not significantly contribute to the development of the state and raised loans from the Centre, thus pushing the state into a financial crisis. He stated that to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant, the government was determined to take some harsh decisions to improve the economy with the cooperation of the people of the State. Sukhu highlighted projects like the Daulatpur-Bhadrakali road, in which Rs 15 crore had been spent; Gagret Hospital's new building; and the upcoming Hoshiarpur-Nadaun four-lane road, while assuring the filling of vacant doctor posts and addressing water scarcity through tube wells. The Himachal Pradesh CM also mentioned the Bulk Drug Park in Haroli, set to begin construction soon. He further criticised the BJP's education policies for dropping Himachal's ranking to 21st, leading to school mergers for quality education. As per the release, the other development initiatives include a Rs 42.82 crore bridge on the Amb-Ambota road, four bridges under PMGSY-III costing Rs 2.70 crore, and infrastructure projects like the Government Degree College Daulatpur Chowk building at Rs 2.79 crore and water schemes totalling Rs 16.57 crore across multiple villages. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri also noted a Rs 170 crore investment in Gagret's water schemes, criticising the Centre for sanctioning only Rs 137 crore of the expected Rs 2,000 crore, and affirmed the state's advocacy for its due funds. The Chief Minister said that Una has emerged as the fastest-growing district in the state and is being developed as a 'Solar Hub' of the state, with 163 MW projects under construction and promising job creation and industrial growth.
