Centre released Rs 9578.40 to 22 states this fiscal as share under SDRF: Govt

New Delhi, Jul 22 (PTI) The government has released Rs 9578.40 crore to 22 states in the current financial year till July 15 as central share under SDRF to support those affected by natural disasters, Lok Sabha was informed Tuesday.
In a written reply, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said the financial assistance under State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF)/ National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) in the wake of natural disasters is by way of relief and not for compensation of loss as suffered and claimed.
'An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has been constituted for Himachal Pradesh, without waiting for the memorandum, to visit the affected areas of the state for assessment of damages caused by the flash flood/floods, cloudburst and landslides," the minister said.
He said according to the National Policy on Disaster Management (NPDM), the primary responsibility for disaster management, including disbursal of relief assistance on ground level, rests with the state governments concerned.
'However, financial assistance to notified calamity, including landslides and floods, is provided from SDRF/ NDRF as per established procedure. The state government concerned is required to undertake necessary relief measures in the landslides affected areas out of the SDRF, already placed with the state government, as per government of India norms," Rai said.
During the current financial year (as on 15th July, 2025), the Centre has released central share of Rs 9578.40 crore to 22 states under SDRF, in order to support the affected people of the state, he said. PTI ABS ZMN

On the second day of his visit, PM Modi became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the historic Brihadeeswarar temple in Gangaikonda Cholapuram, where he performed abhishekam with Ganga water. He also released a commemorative coin in honour of Rajendra Chola and a text of the Thiruvasakam. The event featured traditional Thevaram recitals and a Thiruvasakam symphony composed by music maestro Ilaiyaraaja. PM Modi also announced that grand statues of Emperor Rajaraja Chola and his son Rajendra Chola would be installed in Tamil Nadu as a mark of respect to their contributions to Indian history and culture. Amit Shah said the opposition had faith in a foreign country rather than India's foreign minister, which is why they are sitting on opposition benches. Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack at the opposition parties for disrupting External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's address in Lok Sabha on Monday, saying they would rather believe some foreign country than the country's own foreign minister. As opposition parties interrupted Jaishankar's speech, Shah got up and said, 'They (Opposition) don't have faith in an Indian Foreign Minister, but they have faith in some other country. I can understand the importance of foreigners in their party, but that does not mean that they should impose this on House proceedings." 'This is the reason why they are sitting there (opposition benches), and will remain sitting there for the next 20 years," the Home Minister further said. Shah's furious response came after members of opposition parties began heckling Jaishankar and raised slogans, while the External Affairs Minister was defending the diplomatic measures taken by India before and during Operation Sindoor, in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. Shah rose again during Jaishankar's speech to chastise the Opposition for interrupting his speech and promised to expose their lies in the House tomorrow. 'When their Speakers were talking, we were listening to them patiently. I will inform you tomorrow how many lies have been told by them," he said. 'They are not able to listen to the truth… Even we can repeatedly interrupt speeches in the House, but when such an important issue is being discussed, and the EAM is speaking, does repeatedly disturbing him suit the opposition? Speaker sir, you should make them understand or else we will also not be able to make our members understand anything later," he said. The Operation Sindoor debate has taken centre stage on Monday, with the Opposition demanding answers from the government over India's May 7 to 10 operation against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. The Opposition also looks to corner the government over the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were killed in cold blood. ‘Something like 10 or 12 days': Donald Trump slashes Putin's deadline of 50 days to end Ukraine war; says ‘very disappointed in him'

Speaking in Scotland on Monday during a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said he would no longer wait the full 50 days he had initially offered Putin earlier this month. "I'm disappointed in President Putin, very disappointed in him," Trump said, as quoted by news agency AFP, adding, 'We're going to reduce that 50 days to something like 10 or 12. I think I already know what's going to happen.' Ukraine praised Trump for saying he would cut the 50-day deadline. "Thanks to President Trump for standing firm and delivering a clear message of peace through strength," Ukrainian presidential aide Andriy Yermak said on social media, adding, "When America leads with strength, others think twice." Trump had originally warned Putin of severe economic penalties if the conflict wasn't halted by early September. These included 100 percent secondary tariffs on Russia and its trading partners, a move that would force any country continuing trade with Moscow to pay a steep price to sell goods in the US. This could affect nations like India and China, which still maintain trade relations with Russia. Trump told reporters at Turnberry that the decision to shorten the timeline was made because ceasefire hopes had repeatedly collapsed. 'We thought we had that settled numerous times,' he said, 'and then President Putin goes out and starts launching rockets into some city like Kyiv and kills a lot of people in a nursing home or whatever — you have bodies lying all over the street.' The US President has in recent weeks begun expressing unusually harsh criticism of Putin. 'There's a bit of an issue with him,' he remarked, as per Politico. Although Trump has had several discussions with the Russian leader, even claiming they came close to ceasefire terms five times, little concrete progress has been made. Trump also addressed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, stating that a ceasefire there was 'possible' and urging international partners to share the responsibility. He criticised Hamas for reportedly stealing aid and added, 'It's not a US problem. It's an international problem.'
