Rough sleeping event in Peterborough an eye-opener
A homelessness event at Peterborough United's ground has raised more than £15,000.About 70 people, including former rough sleepers and firefighters, braved the rain to take part in Peterborough's Big Sleep Out – an event that gives people an insight into what it is like living on the streets – at Posh's London Road stadium.The event raised money for Light Project Peterborough and the Peterborough United Foundation.Matt Edgley, fundraising officer at Light Project Peterborough, said participants found the event "eye-opening", and he said he felt "proud to see so many people come together for a great cause".
Light Project Peterborough has been supporting rough sleepers across the city since 2015 and runs The Garden House, a day respite centre offering support and advice.Roy Stubbs, who now works at Boroughbury Medical Centre, was helped by the project when he was sleeping rough.He said he wanted to "raise awareness of being homeless and to raise funds for a very worthy cause".Mr Edgley said the event went well despite the rain during the middle of the night, which led to a few people moving inside.
He added: "I'm really proud that we had another successful Big Sleep Out event. The cold conditions made the experience an eye-opening one for many – especially those who braved it outside in the rain."It was wonderful to see so many new faces participating this year. I just want to say a big thank-you to everyone who took part and those who donated."Participants were treated to a live performance by local band Krispy Cod and were given hot drinks and soup.More than 700 donations have been made so far, with £15,878 raised.The Peterborough United Foundation provides sporting, exercise, and education programmes.

Everton making 'every effort' for cup tie to go ahead
Everton are making "every effort" to ensure their FA Cup third-round tie against Peterborough United goes ahead despite icy conditions in Liverpool.A safety meeting involving the club and relevant authorities to assess the weather and travel conditions will be held at 13:00 GMT on match at Goodison Park is scheduled to kick-off at 19:45 with coverage on BBC iPlayer and the Red Button from 19: Everton statement read: "At this stage the match is planned to go ahead as normal and every effort is being made to ensure that remains the case."We will continue to keep fans updated, and will provide more information following the meeting."

Brighton: Charity hosts sleep out for homelessness awareness
A charity has hosted a Big Sleep Out to raise awareness of people sleeping rough on the streets of East Tower Sanctuary, which is based in Brighton, had around 60 people participate, sleeping on the deck of the i360 in the city sleep out took place overnight on 9-10 December, finishing at 06:00 GMT on comedian Suzi Ruffell took part and told BBC Radio Sussex: "It was very rainy and wet overnight but the whole time I was thinking about the people who don't have the luxuries we have." The charity said about 17% of its clients were currently Ruffell added: "It wasn't great when my socks and feet were wet and that made my sleeping bag wet."But we have raised an awful lot of money for people that need it." Fabia Bates, CEO of the Clock Tower Sanctuary, said the night was "amazing"."We had a record turnout for this sleep out, which is excellent," she said."It was raining on and off throughout the night. But, we didn't have to do it during Storm Darragh - some people had no choice."That brings it home a little bit."
