Branko Ivankovic fate a mystery, as China eye South Korea's Shin for top football job
While multiple reports in mainland China claimed Branko Ivankovic had been sacked after his side's failure to reach the 2026 World Cup, the country's football association has not said anything despite that being the expected outcome following a 1-0 defeat to Indonesia this month.
Attention has already turned to Ivankovic's successor with Shin, who was sacked as Indonesia boss in January, among the names linked with the role.
'If there is a proposal from China, why hesitate?' he said. 'If there is an offer, I will go. The Chinese men's national football team [role] is definitely a very attractive position.
'If they appoint me as the next head coach of the Chinese team, I am confident that I can lead this team well.'

Media reports from Beijing suggested Ivankovic made a final appearance at the Chinese Football Association (CFA) headquarters on Friday to discuss his contract before leaving for a 1.45am flight to Qatar.

National Games ticket sales to begin this month, using real-name registration
Tickets for China's National Games in November will be released in phases, with the first batch to be available from August 28, organisers said on Wednesday. An official ticketing platform has been launched and will use a real-name registration system to help prevent scalping, it was revealed at a joint press conference held in Guangzhou by representatives from Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau, the three hosting regions. The first phase of tickets will be for 17 events, officials said. They will include football, basketball and gymnastics disciplines. Four of the eight competition sports being staged in Hong Kong will form part of the first phase of sales, with tickets to attend the rugby sevens, beach volleyball, men's handball and men's under-22 basketball events up for grabs. Yeung Tak-keung, head of the National Games Coordination Office in Hong Kong, explained the ticket pricing strategy, which was finalised after consultation with the city's co-hosts. Chinese table tennis fans slam Harimoto over medical timeout against Wang Chuqin
Chinese table tennis fans have accused Japan's Tomokazu Harimoto of feigning injury to take advantage of a medical timeout as he won the World Table Tennis Champions Yokohama title against Wang Chuqin. Harimoto, who was born to Chinese parents, stunned world champion Wang 4-2 at the Yokohama Buntai arena on Monday to win his first WTT Champions crown since lifting the European Summer Series in 2022. However, Chinese fans cried foul play, posting images of Harimoto calling for a medical timeout and seemingly gesturing towards his left leg, only to have a physiotherapist massage his right leg. Footage of the match shows Harimoto talking to the umpire with his left leg placed on a step. However, during the conversation, he could be seen pointing to his right knee and pressing his hand against it as he requested a medical timeout. During discussions with officials and his coaching staff, Harimoto repeatedly pointed to his right knee before a physiotherapist massaged it. So where exactly is the injury?' one popular comment said.
